  1. my bitch, when a pup, had a stage of ignoring the recall, after reading a fantastic book on lurcher training,i tried a method explained in the book, basically the dog knows it can outrun you,and of the lead you have no way of getting it too come back too you if it doesnt want too,get yourself a catapult, take her out,arm yourself with some ammo, such as acorns or balls of mud, let her of the lead and try calling her back, before she gets too far away,if she turns a deaf one, without her facing you fire off a acorn/ball of mud,if this hits her she will then realise you can reach her at distance,ev

  6. yea cheers for that, think i will get the hob done
  7. Yeah! I think you can put them to work to early, every animal needs to grow up and gain muscle, you need to let them gain confidence or they just fold when the going gets tough, bit like lamping lurchers when they're to young, think it spoils them a bit, I know there are people that swear by putting them down early because of the short season, but I try not to. good point,i dont really need them just yet as i have my hobs to use, i will let em mature
  8. cheers everyone, will give them a go soon, also think ill get one of me hob vasectomised and use him for the jills, thanks for the replys, shame i cant get out today its absolutly pissing it down here,
  9. hi all ,just wondering what age is best to start ferreting with my jills, only recently got them,my hobs were around one year when i got them, and i have been using them, but would like to get the jills out, they are 4 months old at the moment which is too young i presume, when would you suggest? also, now i have the jills, i will have to get them spayed, which is fine, but after seeing people offering vasectomised hobs on this site, i assume you can use one of these to bring them out of season, is this what they mean? as i will get one of my boys done if so, or would you reccomend spaying? than
  10. ok cheers ,but is there a chance theyd be still there ,or is it very likely there not ,as i havent got anything too do tomorow and, well what better than a bit of ferreting,
  11. What about this dog that marked the hole?has it been wrong before?or maybe you read it wrong?? Nout wrong with a cupa mate, just to let things settle down. P1 to be honest i could of read it wrong,it sniffed at the hole were there was poo and give me this look,as if too say go on then,i have only been a few times and so far she has been right, also if i do return tommorow will they still be there, or will it be a wasted jouney, will they move on after a ferret has been down there? and no one has ferreted it, i am sure off, as it is a good friends land in full view of his house cheers rich
  12. cheers brimmer and will , i am returning tomorrow,i will take note of whats said and hopefully have better luck
  13. dont remember seeing any fur,i will have a dig next time if no action, thanks,
  14. Your ferrets probably had them stopped up, with the arse end facing them. These take a lot of budging. Next time, leave the flask alone, use your locater, mark the spots where they are not moving. Then get that blade flashing! ive got ya,will give that a go
  15. hello,in need of some advice, i decided to go out for a few hours with the ferrets today,me and a friend returned to a bury we have taken a few from before, the dog marked a hole, and outside definite fresh poo was around the entrance of a couple holes,we laid some nets, sat back had a cuppa and put collars on the two hobs of mine,we enterd the ferrets ,and waited as quiet as possible. few minutes go bye and the ferrets had poped out a few holes and returning in, working through, we had them down there for a long time but still nothing ,all in all, they were working through for a good half 30-4
  16. i would not have a dog in the house, end up soft as shit. might feel the cold more on a winters day, soft as shit, dont think so! heres a dont (never illuminate the next rabbit after a miss, lamp off= dog come back) they soon catch on and dont play tug of war with a lurcher, p.s i reccomend the book, Jakie Drakeford (understanding the working lurcher) very good read it will tell ya everything about hunting with lurchers,
  17. after a cup pf tea this morning, gave a friend a call, and decided to have a go at a bury near to my house, got my two hobs and my lurcher and set off in the pouring rain, got to the place and laid a few nets, entered mr ferret, and within a minute, bang strait in the net,dog secured this one till i arrived. After not much action, and terrible rain we decided to go back ,gathering the nets up, we waited for the ferret before using the locator, then looking at a bolt hole facing the field,i see this rabbit stareing at me,i quickly grabed the rabbit pulling it from the hole, with mr ferret tightly att
