My opinion would be buy a green laser as they are much more visible in daylight and a damn sight more fun and impressive looking at night. Sight t in at the same range as your scope and in effect when you are out and about and not sure of distance you can use it to a certain extent as a rangefinder ie if the dot is below the cross hairs you are closer than your set zero and if it is higher than you are further away. Have fun what ever you choose and let us all know how you got on.

Just before I shell out £30 for this book I thought I would ask for a few opinions on whether it is worth the money? -

Well done ! Nice fox.....keep it up. Dave -
I have them and they are good, the way the wings rotate do attract pigeons from hundreds of yards away and I have had hawks swoop at them! Enough said really!

jack pyke camo nets... anyone use them?

B**llox, lol.......just read these posts after I have just ordered one! Too late to get a refund.! -
Congratulations. It is always hard starting out and little over 2yrs ago I had no land and now I have permission for roughly over two thousand acres (plus my mate has permission for rabbiting on 12,000 acres!). My advice is once you get your rifle start saving for your gen2+ night vision scope next as it is money well spent and although expensive will do for years. Good luck.

What rifles in the armourey???

Also seek some advice from your FEO. I recently applied for a 22-250 and .270 calibre. They granted my 22-250 but declined the .270 on the basis that I didn't have any formal/documented larger deer experience. -
It is purely luck of the draw mate I tried tons of farms before I got anywhere and my mate got the first one he went to! Try getting a reason to speak to the farmer, ie you saw a load of crows (sheep farmers hate crows) and you would be happy to shoot them. Although a bit late right now a good time to speak to farmers is just when they have seeded the fields and they don't want the pigeons hammering them. Be patient it will all come good in the end! Last year at this time I only had permission for two 40 acre fields, now I have permission for 3 farms totalling over 2000 acres (one of which my

Sounds like you were given it because it is gen 1 and therfore pretty naff unfortunately. In my experience you get what you pay for and sometimes you need to take a big leap of faith and spend a good wad of cash but further down the line you will spend it was money well spent! Sorry if this a bit negative....if you are ever in Scotland and want to see some Gen2+ in action then let me know.

22-250 Variation Arrived - Bring it on!!!!!
dave1372 replied to dave1372's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I am going for a Howa 1500, I had some good feedback from a couple of guys who shoot it in 22-250 calibre. It has already been screw cut for the moderator. Let you know the rest when I get it! Shame I can't get chance to shoot it for a week. -
Nice setup, should bring you lots of fun......only one criticism ......the sofa! lol!
-
When getting your chat with the FEO try and mention that you have been shooting with your boss who has given you some mentoring, this should build up your credibility. Obviously he will ask you boss about it so check it is ok for you to mention it before you do! Get your permission in writing aswell so the FEO can add it to the application ( I can email you a template if you wish) my mate is just applying for his and the FEO commented he wished everyone would be as organised as we are. Good luck. Dave

Nice bunch of rabbits. Job done as they say!

Well said.....why promote a product if you can't supply it and why treat your potential customers like shit by ignoring them and lieing to them!!!
-
Good luck anyway ! Worse case is you have a gun on someone elses license and kept in their gun cabinet and go out with them shooting. Better than no shooting at all!

A criminal record is a criminal record I doubt very much they will consider it particularly as it was a violent crime, particularly when you consider your age also.

I use a Gen2+ ATN Trident Pro 6X which combined with the laser IR illuminator gives the kind of quality picture you hope for but don't get with Gen 1+. Easily see out to 200-300yds......if you ever come up to Edinburgh I am more than happy to show you! I tried to take pictures and upload to the web but to be honest by the time the picture files get compressed when uploading it doesn't do it justice.
-
I use a dedicated Gen2+ ATN Trident Pro 6X on my .22 rimfire and with IR laser illuminator you can see clearly out to 300yds. Although costing £2k I consider it money well spent..... if you buy cheap you will always regret it and upgrade within a couple of years so grit your teeth and dig into your wallet and don't tell the wife for Christs sake, or as I did tell her the cost in 'wife pounds' which is currently 1 wife pound to £4 sterling! If you are ever up this way and want to check it out feel free to get in touch and I will take you out and show you. Good luck.
-
Nice one, get out there and get blasting! I am waiting on my variation for a 22-250 to come through this week and I can't wait to get some shooting in !
-
Just thought I would upload a photo of a few rabbits I got with the .22 with my Gen2 NV. Far more fun than just lamping!

Be prepared for some heavy questioning about what experience you have had with centrefire and who is prepared to document your experience for deer stalking. I just applied for a 22-250 and .270 but got knocked back for the .270. I had said that I was looking at doing my DSC1 later on this year, I had been out stalking several times with a friend and was wanting to buy let days stalking, but apparently that was not good enough! I did not push the issue as I will re-apply after I get my DSC1. Good luck.
