  1. the 6mm remington is a better cartridge than the .243win just no where near as popular. atb karl
  2. there is a 36grain barnes varmint granade bullet for the .223 will shoot them at over 4000fps. atb karl
  3. yeah it does look good, i bought my tickets a while back. atb karl
  4. fox is debateble, some say yes others say no. i'm in the boat that thinks fox should be shot with a centre fire rifle, not rimfire. muntjac is a deffinate no no for a .22lr!!! atb Karl
  5. if you want something a bit different then how about the 6.5x47mm Lapua.
  6. Here is my little collection (from top to bottom) 12g Lincoln Premier .223 Howa varminter Supreme with stainless steel barrel, grey laminate stock, predator 8 mod and mamba 4-16x50 .17 hmr CZ varmint with wildcat whisper mod and mamba 3-12x44 .22lr CZ silhouette with sak mod and hawke endurance map8 3-10x44 and here is what i feed them. atb karl
  7. thats some very nice work there mate. what night vision set up do you use?
  8. if you haven't already then you should downlad the hawke ballistics program this will give you the hold over points for your scopes recticle here is the link to it http://www.hawkeoptics.com/brc/index.php this will take away alot of the guess work for your longer shots. the program is very accurate, i've used it to shoot rabbits out to 155yrds with my .22lr silhouette which has a hawke endurance map 8 on it. atb karl
  9. i zeroed my .22lr at 75yrds to make the most out of the trajectory. the "yard counter" is a parralax adjustment and once u've got your target set up at the range you want to zero it at you look through the scope and twist it until the numbers on the ring corrispond to the range you are shooting at and the picture comes into focus i.e if shooting at 50 yrds then twist it round to the number 50. the range markers it has on the parralax adjustment ring will probably be slightly out but they are on alot of scopes but you can use it as a rough marker. i hope this helps. atb karl
  10. the bushnell elite series are good, better than the mtc optics and on a par with some of the leupolds the other bushnells are not so good. as for the nighteaters will they are pretty good about the same optics wise as the mtc mamba's and viper's but if something goes wrong the mtc customer service is alot better. also the nikko stering mildots are can be a bit out and not actually be proper mildots. although alot of people have them and say they are good, so you pays your money and makes your choice. you wont be dissapointed with any of the above, they are all alot better than the cheap hawke
  11. the MTC range of optics are a good bet. i prefer the mamba's as you dont have to have that horribly cluttered SCB reticle plus the turrets are low profile. for less than £200 they are a top buy. atb Karl
  12. alot of people seem to have howas now. they are getting quite popular. i have one in .223 stainless barrel and laminated stock. the action is lovely and smooth. the laminate stock isn't flexy like the hogue one and looks better in my opinion, could do with a bit of chequering but nevermind. here's a pic they are very accurate guns howa's. mine shoots 1/2" at 100yrds with my best group of 1/4" at 100yrds with remington UMC 45grain JHP's. atb Karl
  13. well quite simply it means the calibre you used was the 7mm-08 remington. there is some info about it here if you are interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7mm-08 atb karl
  14. i'd just poke the .223 out the window and that would be that
  16. i have 2 CZ 452's. one varmint in .17 hmr and one silhouette in .22lr. they are both very accurate. i would highly recomend ether varity to you. i do however prefer the walnut stock of the varmint to the synthetic one of the silhouette. the sythetic stock is not the best quality but it is light and does the job it needs to. if you want a walnut stock then the choice is between the american and the varmint, the heavy barrel on the varmint adds about a pound extra weight to the rifle so if your going to be walking great distances then the american might be a better choice. the heavy barrel
  17. is this because the sound does not pass through the steal barrel fast enough to be audible in the faction of a second that the bullet is traveling down the barrel. D in physics at A-level so dont take this as gospel because it's ether wrong or one of many reasons. atb Karl
  18. very true SS. how thick am i being tonight.
  19. thats very true actually dixyhmr i didn't think of that. i guess it wont be allowed unless he applies for a fac instead which would probably be sensible if he needs to share your cabinet.
  20. what a bit of rubbish luck! oh well 10 rabbits is still 10 rabbits so good shooting mate. Karl
  21. yes in theory but i think that depends on how quickly the power is burnt up buy the round. if the powder is not fully burnt before the end of the barrel then the bullet will not have reached it's maximum velocity but i think the 17 hmr round burns it's powder before 16" so a 20" barrel wont increase the velocity of the round but it will increase the accuracy ever so slightly but not enough to notice really. Karl
  22. i dont see why not. he would have to get a separate ammo cabinet as there aint enough room in those lockable top sections for much shotgun ammo unless he just buys it on the day and uses it all. Karl
  23. today i invited my mate jono out for a days shooting. he is a city lad and has never fired a shotgun our rifle so this was a complete first for him and a chance for me to share one of my hobbies with a friend. we arrived at one of my permissions at about 11am and decided to do a bit of pigeon decoying. as we headed to one of the fields two roe deer hopped across the field away from us which was nice to see. the sun soon came out it really started to get hot and as such the pigeon activity was slim to nil but we decided to tough it out for a while i the hope of some joy. over the next
  24. i've got a 3-9x40 hawke sport-hd map. it cost like £54 from uttings and it's zeroed at 75yrds, the hawke ballistics program is a free download from there website and it works. i've used it to hit rabbits as far out as 112yrds. it's a craking little scope for the money. karl
