  1. While we're on the subject, a lot of Poles faught with our lads in WW2, the airmen being considerably respected for their skill and tenacity. That'll be the grandfathers of the Poles so vilified on here, then....
  2. I rather suspect that a few of the complainants are the 'lazy layabout indigenous youths' of whom you speak....
  3. No bloody sense of humour these Asians. Why, the guitarist of that trendy Beat Combo 'The Macc Lads' left because they used a studio called 'Porky Pigs' to record one of their albums....
  4. Am I wrong in thinking that someone can't tell the difference between Romanians and Romanis?
  5. That's a sensible attitude. Too much thoughtless breeding around IMHO.
  6. Good fish. Hope you didn't make the mistake I did a few years back, after catching a few bream. Left the keepnet in my hallway all day, in the warm.....
  7. Good for you, Ade. You've done the right thing there.
  8. What I think is happenning is this: that after 3000 years of domestication and selective breeding for albinos, the albino gene has changed in its' relative dominance (or lack of it) vs the polecat colour gene. I don't believe that 'dominance' or 'recessiveness' in genes is neccessarily fixed. IF MickyB's crosses are genuine, and he knows conclusively that his cross was albinoxalbino, then that would support this hypothesis. Mind, it may well be more complex than that. The opossibility of 'dilution' genes has been mooted before (not by me though) so it's probably an interaction between

Thank you. It is very pleasant to have a debate with someone and not be abused for disagreeing.

  11. MickeyB above, talks of an albinoxalbino mating that produced polecat phenotypes........ And go on, tell me the 'too complicated' right word. You never know, it might just wake up a sleeping part of my brain. And I don't have to 'assume' anything. Science, and especially genetics, has moved on since a monk did things with sweet peas and fiddled the results Science isn't based on 'belief', it's based on verifiable fact. The interpretation of those facts can and does change as more evidence becomes available. One thing I've found in 30odd years of involvement in science is that it
  12. Not all genes follow simple Mendelian monohybrid cross princlples. Ferret genetics is rather more complicated than the simple precis outlined above. No scientist with even a passing interest in genetics would make statements based on previous study or belief as if they were set in stone. Mendelian genetics is a Theory, not a Law. That speaks volumes to a scientist.
  13. If the Polecat gene is fully dominant, where did it 'hide' in the albinoxalbino cross? This isn't a dig. I've had BIG arguments before with people who claim that the albino gene is fully recessive. The results of your crosses indicate that at the least it shows partial dominance, or (more likely) colour in ferrets is down to several genes acting together.
  14. You really can't beat a considered breeding programme designed to enhance the genetic health of the ferrets.
  15. All of mine are face-safe. Having a full beard and tache, eating cream cakes can be a messy business. Need a clean-up? Pick up the nearest ferret, hold to face, lick lick lick, job done They haven't always been like that, and I'll get the occasional nip to the fingers if they're playing rough, but a few months of consistent handling got them to that state.
  16. And what you need to understand is that if you treat animals as 'disposable' then it'll be commented on. Maybe the comments will 'help' you into a rather more constructive attitude, not one that merely gives the antis ammunition. Read your own sig. Substitute 'ferret' for 'dog' and you might understand what Para was talking about.
  17. They are to this character. That attitude boils my piss

Biker site mate. You think some of the buggers on here are extreme?

  20. If you dislike Britain so much then stay there.
  21. I think the answer is 'yes'. The trouble is, there's not been much research into ferret genetics, there are still arguments as to which polecat was domesticated to give the modern ferret. But it does appear that if you select for a trait like 'albino' you can vastly increase the chances of getting that colour, and the gene for it seems to become more 'dominant', or more frequent in the gene pool. The last one is pretty obvious though.... I posed a question ages ago, as to whether anyone had bred two albinos and got kits of any other colour than albino. If anyone has, it would sug
