Hymilain balsam is a major problem on many waterways throughout the UK, brought over as an 'ornamental' by our well meaning victorian ancestors it now plagues most UK waters. One of the Syndicates i fish with has spent 5 years trying to eradicate it and at besy we are now just managing to keep on top of the stuff. I would urge anyone who sees this plant to uproot it

I would agree with the suggestion that you take these people to court, find a good lawyer local to you who specialises in this sort of work. May i also suggest that in future you consider joining an organisation such as the professional contractors group etc who will help out with such legal issues should they arise in future, i think they charge somewhere around £140 per yr, which could be worth every penny and more if you come up against non-payers again all the best fin and fur

Thats it, thats the song. I have spent two decades trying to forget them lyrics, god what a horrible reminder.

Is it just me or are there lots of Grayling about at the moment ? Last night i had 5 grayling to 1lb and just the solitary 1.5lb trout Tuesdat evening i had 10 Grayling to 1lb against a single 1.25lb trout The river seems teeming with them and they are feeding at all depths, anyone else getting the same on their waters ? Saw a few Mayfly coming off too, and to think we are nearly seeing the end of August, amazing.

Thats amazing and just goes to show what you can get when you catch a landowner in the right frame of mind. I have had unexpected offers of permission when i have been out on the river and have chatted to the farmer as i have walked upstream, yet if i go knocking on doors it is hard work, guess the farmer can size you up better on his own terms than if you go a knocking. all the best fin and fur

It would be a good idea to post info on people who have actually been convicted of Dog theft, but its just asking for all manner of slanderous accusations if you are posting the names of people whom you know are guilty of dog theft but have no proof in law

If you want to get out of Jury service just tell them you are a Buddist, they are exempt by all accounts

Dunno what the weather is like with the rest of you guys but its horrible here in the south west. Iwas supposed to spend the day fishing, but theres no way im going down to the river in this torrential rain and strong winds. Bummer

God what a horrible memory that name conjours up, Zit Astley halfwit manufactured 's popster extrordinarre. I thought that Stock Aitken & Waterman had him firmly under lock and key for the last few decades, has he escaped ?

Virtually any strong alcoholic drink will be infused by pretty much most fruits. I have known sloes, damsels, plums even raspberries and strawberries used for infusing alcohol. I usually make a batch of sloe gin myself each year, last year the sloes were harder to come by than in recent years but i have already noticed that sloe numbers seem to be good this year and already have my eye on a few spots to harvest when the berries ripen. all the best fin and fur

Anyone who could do this sort of thing to a dog will almost certainly have comitted other criminal acts and will be known to the police. Hopefully they will soon catch him and put him in jail for the other inmates to play with, when they find out what he's in there for.

Against my better judgement i took the good lady shopping the other day, and it only took a short while to realise why we never bothered shopping together. Anyway i decided that rather than face the usual argument i would agree to meet her back at the car and have a root around the shops on my own, and in a second hand bookshop i found a copy of Charlie Pirries book the Gamekeeper, which is an excellent read. Basically its the story of a Gamekeepers year on the Atholl estates and the book acompanies a BBC tv series, which i am guessing was only regional as i missed it, the serise would

A leatherman will reward you with many more years of service for your money than a cheaper multitool, and whilst it may seem expensive initally it will last. all the best fin and fur

Sadly this is a very real possibility, the idiots in society always seem to be responsible, via their actions, for either banning something that can be misused or for seeing a government introduce an entirely ineffectual piece of legislation at huge cost to the taxpayer. The days of common sense seem to be long gone for an ever increasing number of the UK populus.

No the people who neglect firearm safety should be banned from keeping them. JoeD I agree with you, it is the crass stupidity of the individual responsible for the air rifle that has caused this tragedy to happen which should be addressed. I hope the person responsible for the air rifle is prosecuted, although i dare say they are going through their own personal nightmare at the moment.

Excellent, its surprising how succesful the good old nymph patterns can be for the Carp, i catch many on Pheasant tail nymphs which they seem to find irresistable.

If you have yet to purchase any gear may i suggest that you go out with a charter skipper who will have all the gear on his boat (most do these days). They will probably charge you a little extra on the charter price but will give you a good idea as to what you will need, Porbeagles where the predominant shark species along the Bristol channel / north Cornish coast, so if you can find a skipper on these waters he will give you a good idea of what time / tide is best for you to go after the Porgies. all the best fin and fur

I have bought much surplus gear in the past, mostly the camo or just plain green trousers, cheap and excellent. Best bargain i had was an ex-MOD guard 3/4 length Gortex jacket, which i have now had for 7 years and which has never leaked inspite of being out in all weather, an absolute bargain for £25.

That looks like a proper country fair, unlike those events where traders set up to sell cheap clothing and all manner of junk. hope it goes from strength to strength. all the best fin and fur

Clarksons words are always wise, hes also one of the few people with media exposure who actually say whats on their mind.

Stuart Broad is indeed the new hero of the hour, and to think he was nearly dropped from the team.

This was a sad case, 47yrs is no age to die and i feel sorry for his family. It appears that the farmer suffered some form alergic reaction to the stings that would have been just painfull to the vast majority of us. So sad, his brother who is 50 said that he felt as if a part of him had died with his brother, they were a close family.

I dont think you are doing anything wrong, it may be that you have found one of the few waters that have managed to remain free from the signal crayfish invasion so trying somewhere else may be your only chance of a few tasty crayfish. However if you do cover several waters please remember to disenfect your nets/cages between waters as the signal spreads a 'crayfish plague' for want of a better term which can and will infect the native crayfish if you subsequently visit a water where they are present without disenfecting your nets. good luck and let us all know if you catch any all

I think the last time i saw a cockle man in a pub was a good 15 years back now. Some of these 'chain' style pubs now sell jars of cockles behind the counter, which may have accounted for his demise in some areas. all the best fin and fur

True enough he was found guilty in a court of law, but there seems some doubt as to the body of evidence that was brought before the court and therefore some doubt as to the mans guilt. With regard to taking things up with the court of appeal thats exactly what he did, he was still appealing his innocence upto the time of his release and only stopped doing so in order to gain a release on grounds of compassion whilst he still had some life left in him. Personally i feel that the whole trial has raised too many doubts and has left the families of the Lockerbie victims in a permenant sta
