Had my cat shot and injured, the wife and daughter were totally devastated, cost me a fortune in vets bills.(I was devastated) Fancy taking an arse shot, I wont when I find out who did it! It has a bright red collar with fluro center, no mistaking it as a childs pet!!!! The police took an interest and investigated breifly however when another 2 children had their cats also shot and injured they investigated further. (including looking at my rifles!!) I dont think cats should be shot if there is the remotest possibility of them being a pet. What part of your firearms certif

OK, I have been using a SAK and an ASE Utra on my .22 Anschutz rimfire but I want something quieter! I am not too worried at the cost but it has to be really quiet as I am getting agro from the stables! I am using Eley subs, these are not as quiet as the rems. but far more reliable what can I do? CBW

Out for a Charlie last night..............

Asks similar questions too..... -
I think that will be excellent, I had the same concern when I bought my Zeiss Conquest with this magnification. I find I rarely use the 20* but it is there if you want it, mine is usually upto 15* for those head shots at over 100yrds and down at 8* for close range or poor light work. I also think the 20* is great for a bit of spotting at range, I can see all the bunnies in the next field, that said they are usually gone by the time I get there!!! CBW

I asked this question once before however I am really interested in how quiet a 12g hushpower with subs is? Most of my pest control is done with a .22rf with subs as I am surrounded by Newmarket race horses. CBW

Thankyou MM, First two done today! CBW

Thanks Guys, Did my first rabbits last night, I cannot bring myself to eat something I have personally killed and gutted, it was allways the same with trout and bass! Anyhow my collegues at work are most gratefull and want more of my pest controlled rabbits, they also want my pigeon breasts, is it as simple as they say? Could you post tips on pigeon breast removal also? THANKS, James

Hi, This is my favorite farm for bunnies! The rifle is my Anschutz 1712 sporter .22lr heavy barrel with the monte carlo stock, the moderator is an ase utra and the scope a Carl Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 *50 Last but not least, Cookie with his hw 100 trying to shoot bunnies but actually catching ticks! Should have stayed in the 'dog house'

Hi, I am also interested in the replys to this question, my shooting/pest control is all done around the horsey farms of Newmarket. The first thing I get asked is how quiet is my rifle. I am using a .22rf with subs and an ase mod, and its great, but I would also like a SG but its got to be very quiet. I dont think my BASC insurance would cover me for some of the horses I shoot around! Thanks John, learned something new there, I did not realise you could buy sub cartridges. So back to the original post, which shot gun for quietness? Cheers, James

I am unable to make a comparison, I am using an ase utra which I find really good, and am very pleased with, it is quiet, slim and looks good on the rifle! However it is not easy to clean, it gets a bit noisy after about 750 rounds. Clean it really well(1/2 hour) and its right as rain. I fancy trying another moderator just to see??????? James.

Trip out for anything and everything

I had heard the comments about rabbits being gutted with a shot, I saw it first hand the other day with a short range rimfire kill. YUCK. James. -
What do you all prefer to shoot?
cbw replied to SportingShooter's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I decided on an Anschutz sporter, I must say I am thrilled with it. Good and accurate but as previously mentioned I am struggling with the transition from air to powder! James. -
Ok Guys, Thankyou very much, some excellent input and as usual learned some new tips! I have allready set targets at 60, , 100 and 120 and have worked out where this equates to on the turrets, I have placed discreet markers around my main rabbit field to help with ranges and I am going to force myself to take head shots only on my next trip out. I will get my bloody confidence back! It is just so frustrating to hit targets time and time again without a care in the world and then go to bits on the bunnies! Once again thanks all. James

I have gone from years of air to a 22rf and cannot believe what a huge difference it is! James

Eleys are blooming good, my favorites, but they smell funny! -
OK, some are on here boasting about how good/acurate they are.... I am blooming shit hot I can shoot targets at 100 yrds like you would not believe but then i have done this since i was a child, however now give me a live target at 50 yrds, let alone 100 and I go to bits, why is this? In my air gun days I had no worries with a pigeon head shot at 50yrds now with a real rifle i am too scared about missing to even atempt it. I find myself either taking body shots or not taking the shot at all. I am really strugling with changing from air to powder. Richochet and back stops seem to be fore front

Off to Germany with the wife and 7 mnth old daughter
cbw replied to cbw's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Not that many, (14) I get quite borred after a while and end up with a cardboard box and targets. I am new to rf so quite enjoy a bit of target practice! CBW -
Wood, I paid loads extra for the monte carlo walnut stock with the lovely rose wood bits........ first time you lean on a fence post its buggered!!!!!! That said it does still look and feel nice but so easily marked, its like when you first get your car you love it until your first car park dinks and then no longer care. CBW

Not being rude, but this guy just cant be serious, I have also been following his posts he is either 11 years old or on the wind up!

I just did not think!! We were off to Germany for a few days, flying out of Stanstead at Lunch time. This gave me a couple of hours to knock off a few bunnies which I did!! It was great, one of my best couple of hours, MEGA death! 200 rounds and loads of fun. Went home, packed me bags and off we went! I could not believe it, I obviously tested positive on the random swab for fire arms residue, they took all of our belongings to pieces, my babies milk was opened and disposed of, her factor 50 sun lotian was treated like semtex my wifes shampoo had a controlled explosion and

The rifle is brand new, and kept properly clean. The truth is the jammed rounds were on the first trip out and there were about ten of them, I think this was a combination of nerves, incompetance and needing a few rounds through to bed in! There have been three missfires in about 250 shots, on each occassion the cassing has been struck correctly so it looks like the ammunition is faulty rather than the rifle. I am using Remmington subs as this is all my local gunshop stocks, however I am looking at travelling further next time as I would like to try Eley subs. Back to pulling
