  6. 4 year ago, i took 1800 rabbits off the two farms i work over, this year im goin to struggle, most of my game etc, is sold , looks like i might have to change my occupation or find rabbits elsewhere, a couple of year ago i went down to dorset for 3 days, lamped, ferreted, and came back with a van full, id like a trip like that again.
  7. i might come and see you then torchey, pretty boring up here.
  8. i think one the best days hunting ive had, has to be with the e, essex, when john oshea hunted them, and they met at a farm nr, sturmer, the day started well, a cool janurary morning , i was doing terriers then and working in kennels,i cant exactly remember where they found charlie, but he went, and they hunted him for a good while , before disapearing up a pipe, anyhow the day went on and as the time went the day got cooler like it does that time of the year, about 3.30, they started to hack back to the box as it were getting dimpsey, and as john blew for home ,hounds found another fox at the bac
  9. just wondering what the rest of the country is like, serious shortage of rabbits here in cambs, looks like the ferts wont be doing much yet, took a trip lamping, and struggled to get 6,covering alot of ground, seems to be more hares about, seems they have all gone since the last winter.

  11. good grub, try them on the bar-be,you need a couple to enjoy it.
  12. the problem is there is a few who like to be on the other side of the hedge, and the few give attention to the rest, i have no problem with that, driving fields, worrying livestock and threatening landowners, it has been so bad in recent years the farmers have got fed up and shot the hares, the police have had the power to take your car and ban you from driving too for a while,im not sure about taking the dogs,i think there was a case a few years back, where the lad had to get a train home from yarmouth way, because the police nailed him, but because its now high profile joe public will be on th
  13. apparently its not the normal cough this year, more virilent strain, not heard a lot about it.
  14. how is it that packs seem to get the cough this time of year,i suppose it being airborn as a virus is how it gets about, i see the heythrop have cancelled their terrier show, and i think it was mentioned that some packs up country would,nt get to p,boro and if they did get there, then they were,nt allowed to honiton,it seems to be they always get it the nearer the season comes closer, anyone throw any light on this?,could it be that when you have visitors in kennels that they may have been around domestic kennels that have the cough and then its carried on unawares, i had it here one year and it
  15. i always casserole mine, onion, garlic, cook in gravy, and serve with mashed spud,ox liver is the strongest, sometime i will fry it,coat in flour first, thinnly sliced, good grub.
  16. not always the case, j, them muntys are nasty angry little feks and well armed, i lost a bitch to a munty,he straight lined, and she got him, but he fought back, slashed her up,and battered her,and she was a dog that took them regular, she died in my arms on the field.the thing with bushing is you never no whats coming out, thats half the fun.
  17. one of the best dog men ive ever had the pleasure of being about and being with, passed away ,god bless tez, you character, rest in peace my friend, the dog world will be a lesser place.
  18. a friend of mine got a patxcocker of a lad from here, what a dog she is to hunt, seems to pull the pack together, and has a great nose, super little hound,
  19. i think a pack of terriers out ratting can be a problem, i know lads who have worked their terrs together no probs,no scrapping, then you get another lot that will just fight, the thing is once the action stops, they get bored, and their blood is up, bushing you are on the move all the time, and there should be no time or chance for scrapping, even at a kill,i reckon if your bushing on your own, with a smallish pack, you should have some good sport and no problems,if you know the ground you hunt and you can keep up with your charges, you can have fun.
  20. in the late 90s,we had the sunday morning club, and would hunt with as many as 12-15 dogs, surprisingly, we would bring home a good mixed bag,fur and feather,we,d have at least 6 running dogs, the rest were spaniel x,or terrier and they worked like a pack,no scrapping over the kill, one of the big dogswould alway bring to hand, even the terriers would catch and bring back, good old days, when you,d meet up early and be out for 5-6 hours, then back home for breakfast and a pint, nowadays with the times changing we cant do this, they,d be at you,so i hunt with my 3 borders ,2 running dogs, and the 12 b
