  1. Its not that they choose to run for 5/6 mins before they kill it...its the fact that thay can run that long if they dont kill it in the first minute...some hares are just better than others.
  2. he looks a cracking well bred dog. good luck with the sale. well done for getting your dogs back.
  3. Is the horse stuff the same as the dog stuff? not sure if they contain the same stuff, as a horse sweats and a dog dosnt, so they might need different stuff... i use an electrotite powder, table spoon in their food every night, during the season. this keeps them hydrated which can only be a good thing. you carnt force a dog to drink like we can.
  4. if you sell just the nets, im interested in the carry box and locator. send us a price if your interested, cheers.
  5. Make sure you keep us all posted, on here and on edrd. its good to see other peoples dogs trials and tribulations along the way...many of which we can relate to our own dogs. all the best.
  6. ive enjoyed reading about her in edrd. are you getting a replacment then or just gonna run the dog on its own? Thats the problem with lurchers..there a long time old, Especialy the fast ones like the coursing dogs dogs that relie on speed and pure running ability. For example,..say you have a dog thats had a hard life, when its 5 you get a pup so that when the old dog is 6 the pup will be 1 and ready to take over....Then when the pup is 5/6 you do the same again...but with lurchers living to old age the original dog would be 11/12 and could still be alive and well. then you would have 3 dogs,,
  7. Would this be the person that comes and interviews me? will be bud. dont worry about anything though as its all formallities.
  8. hi mate. just to let you know the police will need to see if the land is suitable for shooting, because the other guy who shoots there might have an open cert, where as you will have a closed cert. dosnt mean the police will have to actually look at the land as it might already be mapped with them. cheers.
  9. how old is the scope mate and can i ask why your selling it.? im on the market for a new scope but not sure weather to go new or 2nd hand yet. cheers.
  10. a mate of mine bred a litter, which many thought turned out to small to be any good, but the 3 bitches which i see ran very well...2 of them catching 3/3 week in, week out on the fens under comp rules. they was 22/23 inchs tall.
  11. very nice bitch mate. what is her running style like coming from those bloodlines. heard about them but never seen any run. i might be getting a pup from similar breeding so any info would be much appriciated. cheers.
  12. its a tough call espically as she is such a good bitch in others ways..but you need to totally trust your dog, especially if they run out of site a lot...there is nothing worst than worring every time to your dog runs out of site over the brow of a hill when there is sheep about. my own dog was out ferreting in a sheep field when he was about 2 years old. been in field about half hour and missed 2/3 bolted rabbits as they hopped from hole to hole. all of a sudden he took off, running past a couple of sheep and steemed right into one. anyway he has never done it since but it took a few years
  13. it looks cracking. is there much sent to trail up on the moors, compared to lowland ground?
  14. the bullxs that i have seen work, including the one that i own have been good dogs but there down fall has been stamina. my bitch will hunt cover all day like any other cross, but once she starts running flat out, like lamping lots of rabbits, the lactic acid builds up. she will run to a stand still till she cramps up. she reminds me a bit like frank bruno,lol....just a little bit too much hard muscle...great for a while, very fast but can only be pushed so far.
  15. ive seen the same gun for the same price near me, but that does not include the mod and scope. £100 extra for s/s mod!
  16. Just waiting for my certificate to come then im getting one. how much did your set up cost mate, perticually the scope?
  17. i use one all the time mate. wouldnt be with out one.
  18. Thats exactly what I'm talking about..... Do you think the hares on the fens will employ this line of thinking eventually? this is on the fens. slap bang in the middle of it mate.
  19. I gave mine electrolyte salts when I ran on the fens ,pre ban, now I take a half pint of water ,mixed with honey for when the night is over, maybe give them a swig if they have fur in their throat, during the night. good advice
  20. i dont know about evolution, but hares can get wise to the ways of a dog over the course of a season. there is one place where we run which runs along a train track. when we first started runing there say 5/10 years ago the hares ran normally, totally ignoring the train track, some getting killed some not. now when we go the hares straight line for the track flat out, then run down it and escape in some cover. they never get caught now and seemrd to have learned this.
  21. seeing as i live on the fens, id like a change and do some serious rabbiting in the dales catching some big numbers. You do well to see 20 rabbits near me let alone catch em.lol
  22. alright mate. what scope comes with it? cheers.
  23. i do it but beware of the dangers of lamping. i think it makes them a smarter dog all round and if they pull up a hedges at night, they know not to in the day time. but there has been a few times when ive had to cancel a days coursing because the dog is injured from a nights lamping.
  24. most day time coursing involves ploughed fields..thats where most of the hares lie in the day time in the fens. once in been weathered down a bit its not too bad, though it does suit saluki crosses
  25. well maybe if hes new to the countryside then he wouldn't know the difference. If they ran for cover then they would most probally be rabbits..if they ran off then they would probally be leverets.
