  2. my understanding of huntaways is they are not a purebred, but a x bred for function
  3. Gday good to see another ozzie on here mate There is quite a few of us on ozziedoggers who are right into the running dogs Hard to find info on staghounds and roo dogs you may find http://www.kangaroodog.org has a bit of info on them, actually its the only site that has any info on them at all other then ozziedoggers sighthound section they seem to have used airedale in some of th erunning dogs down in vic, some good lines there too
  4. not the yellow dog, its the black tri colour
  5. hi all have a lovely roo dog here and at 5.5 months he was 27in to the shoulder so what height do you think he will hit? lets see who can get the closest to his adult height
  6. http://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html tells you how old stuff is by a date range at 5.5months of age my roo dog is 27inches to the shoulder how tall do you think he will be boys
  7. my sister has 3 danes, they eat like a horse and shit like a bull one is scared of his own shadow, the other 2 one you cant trust and the other is not that trustworthy around strangers either none would be any good at hunting, seem to have lots of health issues too they use them here but as x'd dogs, my roodog pup most likely has dane way back in his makeup, they used them for reasons known to them... to add size/height and possibly nose
  8. bugger i thought you were talking about irish wolfhounds give em a go, may do ya proud
  9. see you have australian barkers and biters, not a bad book!! bit of info in that on the kangaroo dogs and staghounds, although not entirely accurate on the dogs as a whole
  10. :clapper: i feed similar to ditchy mostly raw meat and bones, with heart/lungs/liver etc once a week or so have not gone fully raw though, still get biscuits, but mostly the good stuff also feed raw fish, not that tinned stuff, proper straight out the ocean raw fish
  11. yep if i remember right you can count the number of bedlingtons in the country on two hands, and they are all show breeders ozziedoggers has a dedicated sighthound section, if you talk to the blokes on there and they get to know you, you will likely be able to get hold of some good hunting bloodlines
  12. i too feed raw meat and bones, dogs teeth are in good nick one thing but, my dogs chipped his tooth, i believe its from sheep bones, possibly the leg??? real hard bones they are, not like the ribs etc that they eat happily... its put me off feeding mutton
  13. if my dog gets out of sight he returns to where he left me, you cna stuff them up by moving location and then they might not see you, even if its only 50metres see this alot with staghounds here that i have hunted with,k the return to where they jumped off the ute
  14. my opinion is get a dog from proven parents so many bad things are said about that bloke and the lack of socialisation and cleanliness of his yard, yet people still go buy pups from him, it reminds me of a beaten woman who just keeps going back
  15. hes in australia, which lends itself a bit of a predicament u cant get half the x's u lot over there have, its either staghound/roo dog or maybe that with a bit of greyhound in it, or if ya lucky you may come across something different depending on where abouts you live for example ive seen quite a few stags advertised over the years, only once heard of a kelpie/greyhound x being done here in western australia have seen greyhounds for sale that are hunters, maybe 2 times in all the years ive looked... mind you i dont look all the time but there ya go
  16. ah ok seen you on there hope ya get what your looking for im in the same boat, plenty of ohter game to chase, not really pigs but
  17. Murray staghounds are very good around kids, my two stags one a pup are with my daughter everyday and shes 19months old too!! been with them her whole life, they are biggish but are not dumb by no means, very gentle(in fact deerhounds i consider the gentleman of the dog world) sounds like stag/whippet may be the sort of thing you are after there is a few guys on ozziedoggers who can help you with that, who run smaller staggy types
  18. no but if you have running dogs they do far far better in the open same with running other stuff, it has the advantage when it hits the thick stuff if you want to see some stags go to http://www.kangaroodog.org
  19. depends what your downloading, ive seen plenty stuff on there you can download that is not copyrighted
  20. Gday Murray check out http://www.ozziedoggers.org there is a dedicated sight hound section just for us Aussie hunters, where you can see what types of dogs we use over here stags and roo dogs would be the most common and easiest to get, there are other lines of dogs with say airedale in them used for foxes, in a few days i'll probably post an article on there from a newspaper with a good write up on stag types and foxes in VIC what is the country you running in like? if its all busha nd u'll be chasing foxes in it then that will be interesting
  21. if you use a bittorrent client and go to say thepiratebay.org you can find wild boar fever and hunting wild boar do a search for hunters video heaps of em on there
  22. dogs best catch was something that went 80kg and was over 6 foot tall
  23. yes i would think that would or a very big male kangaroo or wild dogs
  24. its illegal, roos are a protected species but you can shoot them, but you have to go through government departments to get tags etc to cull on a landholders property roos can be in plague proportions, and when it was legal dogs were one method used to great effect. in fact there is documented evidence that in tasmania ppl were more busy hunting with roo dogs then farming land haha they can put up quite a fight but, from what old timers have told me anyway, not overly good at turning but they can be quite fast, i guess similar to a deer although the kicks from a roo can disembowel a dog
