  1. I don't think anyone here thinks that looks are the most important thing otherwise we would be on a different site. I am a fan of the colour and find it interesting but that was not the first thing I thought of when chosing my puppy or having a litter. I hope there is a way to breed a good looking dog that is functional otherwise there will be a seperation in Lurchers that has happened in other breeds "looks" and "workability". Looking at the pictures on here I am happy to see it is possible to have both. I dont want an argument but read what you just wrote again. . . . "I hope t
  2. I was thinking the same here. All this Looks is for showing, yes it's nice to have a Looker, and I will comment on a nice type of dog. But it's not at all important to me. Looks wont fill the pot, a looker may get you a few rosettes and a day out at the game fair. There are people who show and people who work their dogs. Is there both? Valid question . Thing is ,Merle colouration is usually linked to having collie in the make -up of the lurcher . Collie crosses are not that successfull as show dogs _a bit too mongrelly possibly when compared withan elegant deerhound cross or a

  5. I brought this book a while ago and never got the time to read it. Since the cold snap, (still snowing here) it has limited me in doing most things, not just working the dogs. So I decided to scan my book shelf for a good read. This book is written by himself, John Lewis-Stempel. It's an account of each month of the author tracking, killing what ever he can to survive. He had set out to live with his family in a small seventeenth-century Herefordshire farm, soley on food that he has hunted. Beautifully written, with wit, fun and a lesson to be learn't! "My trigger finger i

  8. I have a 2nd Gen Deerhound/Grey/Saluki/Grey. A joy to work with. I have seen a few 1st cross deerhound greyhounds, and can only comment on what I have seen. They can be a little slow, however I've not seen a half hearted one, and definitely not seen one which is scared to commit.
  9. Just defrosting......

  10. The cache is the recent computer memory or server memory ( if on a network) of the web pages you've been on. Google also holds a cache of web pages as well, so if a site has changed it might not update on Google's search engine for a short while until their cache clears (which i think is about every few hours), so it's a memory of a web page and how it looked. Cookies, are things that your computer holds, like a saved preference. So if you go on a global site, if you've been on once it remembers you're in the UK by leaving a small footprint on your PC so next time it sees the cookie and s
  11. Always had leather collars, they have never worn down and become thin to the point of throwing away. Infact when I say ALWAYS, they are the same ones passed down to my current dogs.

  15. People can think what they like Robin, IF that's IT's natural state then so be it. No justification needed. Or shall we call the RSPCA?
  16. Can see all that shot in those birds.... Nice little catch there and why not! Had a nice brace yesterday, they love the ditches in this weather, and the dogs snap them up nicely. What a fine specimen you are! Pup looks well.
  17. You haven't said if this is your first dog to have owned. Do as much research before buying any dog. Do you have the time, money and room to keep it etc.....
  18. Nice read Stoller, yes conditions are awful, Maggie did well. Lovely dog, I prefer Kentucky for my dogs.
