  1. Good work there mate, hard to beat the old ones for a bit of experience, nice bitch too, like one i used to run, what way is she bred?
  2. non stop action,sounds like you's had a top day,keep it up
  3. good pics, the black looks keen
  4. Out today with big toe and joe cash of here, first earth we tried is one we have dug before and has always provided us with good sport, with well educated game,we entered the old smasher dog and he met his quarry shortly after,it was a big spot covering a fair bit of ground,he gave the dog the run around for a good hour, intent not to go to a stop end,the dog stuck to the task in hand keeping him under pressure and never letting up,he eventualy got a stop on him at 1.6 on the b and f.when we broke through the dog had him mid tube,no way this was going to a stop end,he knew the drill, been there do
  5. It would seem to me for some reason or another these little bow legged russells are becoming less popular and harder to come by now, working ones that is,probably because of the popularity of the blacks, and a lot of people seem to have written them off. Some very good strains of these little warriors have dwindled off or died out altogether.Shame really as a good one is hard bet in my opinion.also i think the shows have a lot to answer for
  6. The best price to pay for a terrier pup is nowt,I have never asked for a penny for any pup i ever bred, only that they are going to a working home and givin a fair chance, and given on condition that they are not to be passed on,if there to be given on or got rid of they come back to me,any decent terrier man likes to know where his stock is going and how its comming on and will be happy just to know its gone to a working home, but thats just my way, each to there own
  7. Getting away from the origional question here lads
  8. i would go for a semi as my fist choice,as it reloads its self,a pump action is very clatery and arkward when shooting.if you miss your first clay, bird etc you have to pump it again which will disrupt your swing/motion.i myself have a browning b80 semi auto and love it to bits.if i was in your position i would spend the money on a good second hand semi, that way you will get more gun for your money.good luck with what ever you choose
  9. What a great picture, full of character, was the dog from any particular line? Stevie just a local one to us,was a father daughter breeding I like the look of your russell mate, its hard to beat a good russell, keep russells and blacks myself but always liked the russels when you get a good one there hard to beat, ive recently bread some pups that are double bred to my old russell dog so fingers crossed
  10. good work there mate and some nice country you got there, nothing like a bit of fost or snow to clear the head
  11. Was out the weekend with Big toe and joe cash from here,Big toe had a dog on trial but he didnt make the grade,so we decided to give the old dog a run,he hit his game two minutes after entering,we let him settle for about 10 minutes before we decided to dig,not to deep 1.2 on the b+f.Still doin the bussiness at 12 years of age. The second dig was to the old russell dog smasher, this one was in a gorse covered bank,it was only about 4 foot but was hard goin, after we cleared the bank of the gorse we set about diggin, the ground was full of rock and roots, got down to the dog after about 2 hours, bot
  12. RIVER BANKS or along stream lines i always found to be good spots and always worth a look,as the coarse the river or stream takes creates a natural bank and theres always a sorce of water close byfor the inhabitants of the earth
  13. Good shooting and story well told, what calibre rifle were you using and what type of scope, what mag would you have the scope set at for shots of that distance
  14. At six years old i would say he has a bit to go yet mate, however if your doing a lot of work with him,and he is getting that bit older he might need longer time of between digs, make sure he is fully recovered from previous dig before working him again, dont work him sore or you could risk putting him of his game altogeter.Give him some time off,and pleanty of road work,he'll soon be keen to go again, know your dog and his capabilities.I have a 12 year old patterdale dog here at the moment who has seen a lot of work over the years and still has the ocasional dig.Heres a pic of him about 4 or 5 we
  15. Definatly 100% NOT,or ever likely to be in the future
  16. His sire was 1/4 bull 3/4 russell his dam was a russell, both were first class diggin dogs,il try and get up some pics of them
  17. Out today with BIG TOE of this site,he got his new b+f and wanted to see it in action.iwas keen to see it also as i've read so much about them.Im of the old school and still use the old 15 foot mark 1,was very impressed with this new peice of kit.The earth we had lined up was a good test for both the new box and dog, ranging about 40 to 50 yards in length. Both passeed with flying colours,Dug to my old russell dog smaher at 4 1/25 foot giving his quarry a good workout. This dog has been tried and tested many many times before and is 100% from 100% working stock, which i can trace back at least 20
  18. Good post mate and some fine lookin dogs you got there, nice to see theres still a few about who let there game off and not kill everything they come across.YOU CAN ONLY KILL THEM ONCE.
  19. A nice brace of terriers you have there mate, dog looks good and strong, nice head and well conditioned.nuttal?pups should be nice well balanced pups.have they seen much work?atb SMASHER.
  20. I have that scope except with the Boone and Crockett reticle. If you want to have a look through it and are anywhere near Connemara you're more than welcome to visit. I've not used it much, it's excellent in daytime, at night I an so far unconvinced BUT it could have been the lamp interfering with it. in what way are you unconvinced,i dont mean to hijack mr logics topic but would be interested in some feed back, might help mr logic in his dicision too
  21. Ive looked at a lot of scopes on american sites and i have my heart set on a leupold vx111 4.5 14 50 duplex 500 dollars with leupold mounts free,if you beleive everything you read its meant to be a top notch peice of kit and a hell of a lot cheaper than the same one over here
  22. My boy kevin's first outing after rabbits, this pic was taken a good while back,my misses thinks its cute so here you go,the rabbits were caught by our JR bitch who was 10 months old at the time
