Remington 700sps Vs Ruger M77 Hawkeye (all weather)
dickyboy replied to murrayf3's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I've gone for a remi 700 i don't rate the sps stock its crap for what it is really but the laminate stock seems brilliant, the x pro trigger (there new one) is pretty good the gunsmith can only get it down to 31/2 pounds but cos you can adjust sear engagement it breaks like glass might be going for a jewell though the ruger....i shoot one in 222 at the moment i don't like you are pretty much stuck with what you get no room or components to modify which is always nice i've got aa steyr as well and thats lovely but again nothing to back it up really for after market/personalising -
are shotgun slugs legal in the uk
dickyboy replied to shottyscotty's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
i believe that when shooting slugs they should be considered to be dangerous/deadly to 1 mile!! -
my dog caught the back end of a mates koi, i don't know who was more shocked though........i'm pretty sure he didn't expcet to get it!!! A patient fox would catch one!!

the t8 will rust as mine did even if you look after it, as its mild steel plus it rings when fired so for the price theres so much better out there the PES is better as its stainless so no ring but as the baffles are welded in and the construction is closed there will be NO cleaning and will rust near the welds as the carbides in the metals will run between thats where rust will start and as its closed you won't know untill a hole pops up The wildcat looks great i've had a play and all seems good but the threads for taking apart for cleaning are part of the body my mates seized togethe

well buy a 22 rifle to shoot bunnies and the odd fox then at close range then when you can afford to buy a second rifle............no rocket science there!!! I think i'm thinking along the same lines as deker .........have you really thought about this...If so please do before you ever shoot towards me or even pull the trigger
-
are you planning a trip to the south? would be able to persuade the keeper to buy it if we saw it.............how come you selling it?

If you've got a music searcher listen to a speech/song by chritopher Howard Called Focus..............makes bloody good sense......as soon as you starting thinking i hope i don't miss this shot you are actually focusing on missing the shot not hitting the target..........this little speech has just brought me out of my last Fox fever.......last year i sot 122 foxes picked up with 6 misses this year i'm on 82 with about 30misses it was getting ridiculous!!! really makes sense though You can't think about what you don't want to think about without thinking about it!!!

i'd go 22 and 243 as if there are roe in the area, and you do a good job on reducing the munties then roe willl move in as its the munties that keep them off the land as they are both aggresive species competing for similar food and habitats! get a 243 to do both also 223 ammo will dent your wallet when shooting alot of rabbits!
-
rabbits foxes and deer i'd get a .22lr and a 223 as the 17 is illegal for deer and although great at alot of things is quite pricey to be a bunny basher and not really man enough to be an out and out fox gun(although capable of killing them, there just better out there) if you've got flat land with backstops being hard to find then yes go for 17 i regularly shoot 200 bunnies in a night so prob 250ish shots, its gets pricy with a 17 so 22 it is for me as i have hills and then 222/223 for foxes and 243 for the roe!! standard calibre set up for most shooters i'd reckon!!!

I could probably offer you somewhere round a grand for it....maybe a little more...........do you have any friends in the south of england you could post it to? cos the person i'm getting one for wants to see it before sending off alot of money?? then pay in cash!!

I've bought myself a remi 700 VL SS thumbhole(John Galway to blame for that piece of inspiration) and was going to stick a S+B vari scope on top, or scope of similar quality up to £700 ish The keeper and I are toying with getting an Archer nightvision setup but the Julian(the guy who makes them) reckons they work best on a Leupold scope or raptor(which seem too cheap) Are leupold as good as the other brand, S+B, Swarzki, Meopta? And if so which leupold is better? i was thinking VX111 or Mk4? It has to be paralax adjustable if you think leupold aren't up to the job can you sugges

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR BULL CROSSES TO MATURE
dickyboy replied to DEERMAN's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
never had a bull cross but i reckon a pointer cross takes longer....lol.......mines three and i can now see he's just maturing....but i've had to good seasons so far he may have been harder on the foxes i shoot if i'd waited longer but he's only lost 1 or 2 out of 250 i shot in the last two years, he'll always hold them at bay or grab them and take them out from the field edge and watch them but rarely finish them off but thats all i need and we've had great fun doing it!!!! -
A Scouser was sitting in a bar at lunch time, he was a big guy 6'5" 18 stone bald head, bent nose etc supping at a pint A very well dressd gay man walked in and went over to the scouser, he lent forward and whispered "i'll give you the best blowjob of your life" With this the scouser stood up, sending his stool flying, grabbed the gay man and beat him all the way across the pub and kicked him into the street when he sat down again the bar man said "joe, you've been drinking here everyday for 20 years what on earth did he say to make you do that?" The scouser replied "I dunno bu

i'd go discovery, insurance for commercial vehicles ie pick ups, 90 etc are ridiculous and the price to buy is very high, the discos are cheap to buy, prety cheap to run, get some decent tyres and they don't get stuck, so easy to fix yourself and i'm 22 i paid £495 for insurance fully comp!!!! best all round young persons off roader, i upgraded from a SJ413 as the GF just wasn't happy about being in a tin can, can't say the disco is too much more to run, well it is but only cos i like using it and am out in it all the time!!!!

could try to? i'll need to find a big box...lol i'll look into it

most gun customisers have said a 20" barrel is ideal in 223 but will continue researching, my rifles tend to get dragged round abit, they are tools at the end of the day, i keep the action and barrel clean but the stock does get a little bashed thanks for your reply again

i've had one on my s410 for 3 years a 3-9 x 56 its never gone out of zero its pretty clear and works very well, but it feels cheap, is quite heavy and almost too big for what it is, at the end of the day they havent tried to make it everything for nothing they seem to have comprimised size and weight but everything important is good so good value for money but they aren't cheap
-
excellent, thank you i'm gonna put a jewel trigger on straight away, and prob have 6inch off the barrel for weight and pointability and then threaded and properly crowned, is the stock quite resistant to scratches, water etc whats the length of pull out the box?

I have a two tier ferret hutch that needs to go i made it myself, just needs two hinges and a little work to the roof but might get a young person started with ferrets Also a load of wheels for suzuki jeeps with tyres on, if some adults want them then theres a beer money surcharge but all free to youngsters!! in surrey near guildford
-
did the rifle shoot 1/2 inch groups out the box? did you hand load? i was thinking of getting a semi custom rifle cos i can't find a stock i like but seeing the VL SS Thumbhole i'd like to try one, then customise that a bit, trigger, barrel shorter etc.....can you tell me the goods and bads of your rifle??

my bet shes was stung by a wasp probably a queen for a dog her size, i'm a pest controller and been stung a few times, i get heavy breathing, and feel woozy, i have to sit down and feel very sluggish like i have no energy, very lathargic for about half an hour. I'd put a lot of money on it being a sting!! The problem with stings is they have a high residual toxicity, as in it stays in the body fats for many years therefore the more you get stung the worse the effective, i used to have no reaction, i have to take antihistamine as every day of the wasp season or as soon as i'm stung, the other

Try the heddon crazy crawler, jointed jitter bug, rappala skitter pop or a slowly retrieved shakespear big S they have always worked well for me when the water is warm enough. I find a slow retrieve with the old twich and a few pauses works well with most of this kind of lure. Perch take plugs and spinners well, even if they dont fit in there mouths in some casses. Medium sized mepps in silver or gold make a good start. Good luck

have you any photos? just to see what it is, and how could i pay?

The reason semis jam up is they are american its the same with their shotguns! they are not made for use with subs, i fire 200-300 shots a night when i'm rabbiting, so have to clean it every day, but then after that many shots any rifle deserves it(i don't clean the barrel that often as lead jacketed bullets don't damage the same!! To use subs it just has to be kept clean, the only reason high velocity work is they have more power which is only really force the bolt over loads of crap so keeping it clean is better any way!!! My ruger is wonderful, i've changed nothing apart from a 12"
