  1. That looks fun did a bit off the back of a pickup in the 'summer' and that was great.
  2. The opinion is not the problem, its how its made. IMHO Yes, the assertion that a bigger calibre gives you more room for mistake is a fair one, it generally does. But being told we know nothing doesn't really win friends and influence people And the original point, now somewhat murky in the mists of tangential abuse, was about whether 243 or 6.5, we're saying 243 kills everything and is commonplace and cheap, so does the job.
  3. Looks terrific, except the scope - that the next upgrade?
  4. As SS said, any knock can put off a rifle so far as to wound a deer. You could even wound one with a .50BMG. It's largely down to personal preference what calibre you use. 308 is a heavier bullet and does hit harder than the 243. But, 243 will work on any deer. It is perfectly humane on any deer, and here's the kicker, at long range it's better because it's flatter and you can potentially (recoil) shoot more accurately. You're the one that raised the muntjac and the sika deer, when you were talking about the 223, and original post was on the sika. Kindly read your own posts before crit
  5. So he's covering his arse. I hate politicians, they're all the same, power-crazed wankers with no idea how life should be. America's better right now but for how long? Why can't people see that freedom is being allowed to do what you want to do? Not being told what you can and can't. That's either communism or fascism depending on which end of the state you fall.
  6. Everybody misses from time to time, but you don't get lots of runners. Deker was meaning the muntjac and smaller deer, since it's 223 and we're in England. They are more than sufficient for the task, and he can shoot pretty damn well. if you think you need artillery for a sika deer you're wrong, it's as simple as that. If you put the bullet in the right place, the deer will die. They might go 20 yards or so but I don't call that a runner, that's a death spasm. Runner is one who really properly ain't got yet, and buggers off. And if you get them with a 243 on a sika you will have put th
  7. I've not eaten muntjac yet, but had a call from the neighbour in question and I shall be getting a back leg once he's hung it and prepared it at his place, he has good facilities, being a retired country person. Can't wait!! Not sure about the pregnancy, looks like it to me too tbh. All the money I spent on kit came together yesterday for sure, a rare moment tbh!!
  8. Munty... bloody heavy on a more serious note, hard to tell tbh. 40lbs or so maybe? twice the fox anyway ,and he was a heavyweight. The one downer with being the one with the C/F is that you have to carry/drag the big stuff when you shoot it
  9. Out tonight with Deker on one of my permissions. Got there and no sooner had we arrived than we saw a muntjac, not having shot one before I was keen to knock it over. So down it went... Off to a neighbour on the permission, gotta win friends and influence people (and with a bit of luck he'll do me a couple of steaks!). Silly me forgot to get a picture at the time of shooting, so the one below is at night, just before we handed the deer over. Credit to Deker for thinking of that one Moving on, saw a rabbit which ran towards us, ending up with a 223 at 50 yards. Not much bunny left.
  10. I have had roe quite happily with 243 at 200+, longest was 256 yards, deer fell over without so much as a twitch.
  11. Good going! Not seen black and white bunnies apart from pet shops Black ones aplenty, but not the white/black...
  12. 243 has enough power for the deer without issue. I've ended up with 308 because I fancied one, and also because my 243, when fixed, likes the light bullets so it's likely to end up as a long-range fox gun. But it works very nicely on deer. As has been pointed out, 22 Hornet was originally a deer calibre (which is why most factory loads are so bloody awful on varmints!) and it did very nicely indeed. Put the bullet in the right place, animal falls over. It's not rocket science really, but you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise sometimes! It's fair to want a bit more power as n
  13. Cheers Snap, I've found a nut which just about fits the end of the swivel thread, it's on there now and *seems* OK but then all the repairs did. Out tonight weather permitting so will see!
  14. I was out last week with my 223. I shoot at the farm where my other half keeps her horse, so with new S&B scope on, I thought I'd go for a wander. The idea was have a quick butcher's while she did the horse, maybe see the odd bunny but basically just see what the S&B was like under the lamp. The other thing was that because of issues with a very tight-fitting Predator8, my front swivel stud had broken off and was repaired with epoxy, so I was testing that too. So out I wander, scanning around. And then, looking through the scope, I thought I saw something, easily 500 yards off and
  15. Good going Glad you had a good day, the first one is a heck of an experience
  16. I don't get worried about 22LR ricochets. You grab yourself a safe background and shoot the damn thing. You will get the odd ricochet, it's par for the course. People have been shooting this round for 100-odd years, very very few issues from ricochets. Mostly they lose a lot of energy in the ricochet, and if your background was safe you should be OK. As deker said, due diligence is the key. For years people have this, don't worry about it because there was nothing else. HMR is a great round and it is definitely safer in some circumstances (although, HM2 anyone, close range and low power, w
  17. 77/22 and 10/22 very different beasts, doubt it's hard though. Ruger.com will have the manual.
  18. And there's no more "Shit, we must've been talking too loudly about feckin nonsense" as you try to work out why the fox you didn't see is running like hell away from ye More people, more talk, less shooting. On foot anyway. Can't argue, but at least when you pull off the spectacular 300-yard running shot, someone's there to witness it for ya! Re lamps, Lightforce 170 for me. I have a dimmer on that, before I had the 140 which had no dimmer. You can get away with the 140, but the 170 is too bright for on/off unless you are just shooting at long ranges. Scope mounted is
  19. I have Leupold (30mm) mounts on my CZ, I also have the original CZ (1-inch) mounts which I might be persuaded to sell...
  20. i think he actually spoke to the loader, who confirmed that he was just that, a loader...
  21. That is far too general a question! If you mean the one my rifles like the most, half an inch, or a bit under. Depends just how windy though, and the wind direction, whether I can face into it or if it's a crosswind, how gusty it is...
  22. Sorry your post doesn't make any sense, could you please explain?
  23. I have 500 Wolf for sale , am in Reading
  24. .223 Wolf 55g HP £18 per 100 ! I make that £3.60 for 20!!! Even more fun on fox!!! But really, even more fun from an AR15 in the States where it's a proper semi auto, Vs a pumpkin, melon or just a tin can!
  25. Seconded! So long as it's affordable hopefully!!
