  1. Valid comment Blue - balance is different for everyone and where mine is balanced suits me, and of course, i realise that this may not suit everyone. Balance points are also a very personal thing in respect of the actual point required - its an important part of the tayloring process that really personalises the rifle to the person involved. Regards, Grim
  2. Thankyou for your comment Ian - pleasure to be in the membership here!

  3. Cheers for clearing it up DS, I must admit though, i truly wasn't aware that you could legally own a sawn-off - except maybe if it was first de-activated and then made a sawn-off later on? I say this while remembering that the legal definition of de-activated is to " Render it [the firearm concerened] incapable if discharging any shot, bullet or other missile " I know the wording because its on the certificate of de-activation that i got with my son's M72 LAW rocket launcher i gave him for his birthday today! He likes it so much that if you were to try getting it from him, you'd end u
  4. Hi Leveller, I saw your post and am just wondering if you was aware of the possible implications in the shortening of a shotgun barrel? I mean, i know you can shorten the barrel quite legally, to an extent, but i have the following excerpt taken from the Home Office publication " Firearms law - guidance to police" " 2.4 “Shot gun†means a smooth-bore gun (not being an air gun) which: a) has a barrel not less than 24 inches in length and does not have any barrel with a bore exceeding 2 inches in diameter. In law, the length of the barrel is measured from the muzzle to the point
  5. Hughesey & Biffo - cheers for the heads up guys, much appreciated. Have one each on me! have contacted them both, and am just awaiting a reply now. Regards, Grim.
  6. Thanks for the add mate. Good luck with your permissions too!

  7. I have a Leupy Mk 4 scope, which has a side dialing turret, and I am wanting to get a sidewheel for it - is there anyone on THL that is in the game of making them? If so, how much would one be please? Just wondering, is all. Many thanks, Grim.
  8. Somehwere on my pc, i have a set of sound files which consist of most of the call types for crows - i put them on to a cd once and (just for experimentations sake) sat in my garden and set the cd playing - before a few minutes had passed, i had seen around 5-6 crows flying around the area. They had obviously heard the cd playing and got excited and were flying around having a look. The calls were (if memory serves): Rally - come and look here, type of thing. Crows fighting. Crows attacking a model owl. there are more calls ( about 7 in all) , but i can't remember what they
  9. Hehe . . . . . I kid you not buddy, it does work. Regards, Grim
  10. Yes indeed . . . . and I have come across quite a few of them in my job, I can tell you! Seriously though, Well done anyway mate. Stick at it and you'll find in the end that you will not find it so bad. A good tip is to breath through your mouth ( as opposed to your nose) and the smell will be very much less. Take it from one who knows. All the best, Grim.
  11. Valid point there Jack about the 200 bar fill point. The S310 also has the 200 bar fill point, but i always fill upto 180 bar - thats the top end of the sweet spot for me, and i refill at around the 130 bar area. That method works well for me, and i know that once filled up, i can start shooting straight off, like. Regards, Grim
  12. Effortless, I realise that with what i'm going to say, you may well say that mine isn't a rimmy, and you're right, but the thoery and principal is exactly the same. I balanced two stocks for my Air Arms S310 air rifle, and the rifle is no longer front heavy (as it indeed used to be) and I too use a harris pod. What i did was to pick a point of balance on my air rifle (1/2 inch in front of the trigger guard i found was best area) and rested this area of the rifle on a wedge of slim timber set in my workshop vice (I held the rifle in one of my hands at all times to stop it falling
  13. You'd be surprised mate! lol I am going to try to go a little way towards an explanation of what i mean - If anyone knows more about this particular subject than i, please feel free to step in! LOL For example, lets say you got a barrel of 19 inches, and lets assume that once the pellet starts its movement up the barrel and at the end it leaves the confines of the barrel, it has twisted 2 1/2 times, yeah? Ok, now you shorten that same barrel by (lets say) 6 inches, you then fire the same pellet brand up that barrel. But, when it leaves the barrel end it will have twisted 1 1/4 times
  14. Well Paddy mate, if you shorten the barrel you may well find the accuracy may suffer a wee bit, and remember of course, you will have to re-crown the barrel again - this is a finnicky job in itself but if done correctly shouldn't have much of a problem. Thats the main point I can think of, as regards affecting the rifle in its performance, like? Two questions for ya: 1) How long is the barrel now (without the moderator), before you take anything off, so to speak? 2) How long would the barrel be say, after you lop some off (again, without the moderator on, i mean)? 3) (ok
  15. don't take your mates word for it!!!! you have no gaurantee that he's hitting them cleanly.........go out and shoot it yourself and satisfy yourself that you and your gun are capable of doing what it should. thats my opinion!! cheers sean My opinion too Sean. Neil, Only YOU can make a suitable judgement on YOUR rifle - of course, the world and his wife can feel free to pass a comment or remark on your rifle, but at the end of the day, the only comment or feeling worth worrying about should be your own! With regards to your 'friend' using your air rifle (I a
  16. I'm not 100% sure of the end figure, but it would depend of course what the pellet wieght was to start with - the results are all relative to the pellet + rifle variables you see? But rest assured, whatever pellet is pushed through the rifle on an official test, if it comes up at 12.01 ft/lb, then it goes down as a firearms offence - which could mean upto 5 years in any one of HM's guest houses - NOT something you want to be happening! That is one reason for having the ComBro chrony - for around £39 or £40, you will always ensure you are within legal limits , and therefore your r
  17. Yes mate, as far as i know, it is still £19.95p - money well invested if using air rifle only, otherwise BASC is also good, but seem to cater mainly for shotties, as well as rimfire and centerfire users - thats how it appears to be to me anyway? Oh, and BASC is much more of a price (i guess this takes into consideration the type and calibres of the live fire stuff) but worth it if you are going to be using live firing weapons, like. All the best, Grim.
  18. Not really much point to it mate - as you are, you will be perfectly legal (running at 10.5 ft/lb) with whatever wieght of pellet your rifle is tested with. I really don't think that getting it 'upped' to 11.5 ft/lb is worth the prospective trouble you may face - I mean to say, for the sake of a few yards extra shot distance, and (in respect of power level of the rifle itself) a slightly bigger pair of b*ll*cks, it just ain't worth it pal. As the old saying goes: " If it ain't broke, don't try to mend it " - never a truer word spoken or written, in my opinion. My S310 runs at a gna
  19. Welcome to the club! They are rather good, Innit!? Regards, Grim
  20. Cool that its not too far from you - i now know how to get to that area! lol I would be more than happy if I were able to pop along with you one day mate, but just as happy if it don't come about bud. Regards, Grim
  21. Firstly BigRedBusa, don't feel i was having a pop/go at you, because i wasn't at all - i was just after a bit of clarification. I just wanted to make that clear mate it is the way it is worded you are being very forward for someone who cant be bothered to get off there arse to meet someone face to face . It's not that i can't be bothered to 'get off my arse'and meet them face to face - i DO just this exact thing. What I do is talk to them in person, face to face (or whatever term you prefer), and simply give them my letter so that they can take it home and read it when they like
  22. Good to see its working for you mate - well done! A bit of advice re grave yards - you WILL want to shoot in a cemetary mate, trust me on this one - take it from one who knows. You will find Crows, Maggies, as well as a plentiful supply of squizzers/squirrels there. Plus cemetaries and crematoriums are also good places to find (usually very plump) woodies too. Take this opportunity and enjoy mate! By the way, i was down your way (Essex) yesterday on a job - a place by the name of South Ockenden? [AHEM] If you ever feel the need for some company at the cemetary . . . .
  23. OK, first thing, on personal standpoint, i wrote my letter in the first to produce to landowners when i am 'face to face' talking with them - those i have spoken with have said it was good to see at last that someone had at least taken the time and interest to go to the trouble of actually writing a letter! And by the way, I have got one positive reply from posting these 'geeky' letters Secondly, how does writing a letter make a person a moron? Or for that matter, how does it also infer the status of moron on one who reads it?? Sorry, but I just don't see where the connection is mad
  24. Hehe . . . . talk of the Devil . . . . .and he's sure to appear!! LMAO Glad to see thats the case Davy - very pleased for you I am too!! I composed them to help us all out, so EVERYONE - please feel free to copy & paste them into MS Word or simillar.
