Thanks T3 il take a look at the NPTA for advice, I understand the need for insurances and health and safety issues ect. and have a good van already. Did you approach the local authority yourself or did they come to you ? Cheers bob

Yes TOMO its the RURAL that interests me too, but im going to go the full hog to start and see what progresses from there. I just treat it as a huge learning curve untill i can decide on what i prefer, and hopefully follow that line. As for the money il be ok for a bit even if i have to fully concentrate on training for a few months, maybe could even give up a few days to help some other pesties out, just for the experience. Ok mate 15-20k a year starting off would be great, but do the self employed boys earn alot more ? To be honest the social life side would,nt bother me, as im moving to a new area and now no fecker anyway. And the sex life bit is sorted as her indoors is indoors every day :kiss: Cheers bob

Cheers Stubby hadnt really thought that my construction skills would be that important im Pest Control, as for specifying in one type of control as you said "birdwork" this too didnt enter my mind as i thought you wouldnt get enough work from the one subject. But i suppose that depends as to where you live ie. city or country. Like Dampproofing i get plenty of work in the vallies where 90% are housed of 100yrs old with no dpc. But very little towards the city as there is so much new housing about. Are you still with the same company or have you gone it alone? Cheers bob

After 10yrs in the building game, running my own company, ive decided to move on to something different. Im fed up of constantly running around looking for work to keep my employees in employment and all the hassle that goes with it. The piss taking when im not on site and going home early, coming in late, endless excuses, PAYE, Vat, Pensions, collecting taxes off sub contractors, health and safety training, insurances, risk assessments, coshh assessments and now they want me to bloody recycle the waste i put in the skips or get fined. DS ive been doing grant work for the last 10yrs and the problem you got is that most Local Authorities have a schedule of rates for pricing work, so if say two builders put in a price of say 27000 and 24000 then the LA will calculate the cost of works from their rates. If the work comes to 25000 on their rates, then the LA will only pay out 24000 as they will accept the lowest estimate, as they have to be looking for the best price in the interest of the goverment coffers If however the LA give you a priced schedule so the builders can price against it, if the work is 30000 then im
