  1. There may be something in this. The bird was lying front down but it may have tumbled off the rushes leaving the scent high. I watched carefully and although he knew the bird was there somewhere he could not zoom right in. Normally he has no trouble picking them up and retrieving but it is a spat out of the mouth delivery so maybe their taste is bitter. Theres definatly something in it as my ESS has no problem in finding them or retrieving them but this Saturday one was lightly shot and i went to look for it. Was shown approximate location and off i go. Took me a few minutes to find

  3. Was very good, difference in taste to each bird was marvelous. clear the plate lol i was stuffed and the dogs appreciated the left overs anyway Cheers bob
  4. Respect to the quarry mmmmmmmmmmm
  5. Take into account how hard they have been hit, a hard hit bird wont last as long as a lightly pricked bird. If i remember right i once read that a shot bird shouldnt be hung for more than 3 days, i never leave mine longer than that. It also affects the taste as the longer they hung the stronger the flavour and it becomes more gamey. Cheers bob
  6. Looks good if i do say so myself, bon appetit !!!!!!!!!!! Cheers bob http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/uploads/monthly_12_2009/post-1392-126142292329_thumb.jpg
  7. Well we have had our second mock trial and were joined by some outstanding old boys with their dogs, one being a trial judge so pressure was on to preform well, and living up to my usual standards it didn't start off to well Got there on time and it was a lovely crisp day, straight off to the first section and with only 2 guns to start there was alot to cover. Keeper shot with us last time but not this time as his guns had been seized but he wouldn't let on why after lots of ribbing. Got the drive underway and the first bird rose for me. lovely partridge, used both barrels to watch

  16. Its been a while since ive been out with the gun and out of the blue came a phone call to see it i would be a gun on a unofficial gun dog trial on a shoot near Hereford. Six guys had organised a day in which to train their young and expirienced dogs on some partridge, pheasent and rabbit ground. After some long consideration of 5 seconds i agreed to come along and shoot for these dog men. It was after i put the phone down that i started to think about what i had just agreed to do, im not partial to shooting birds up the backside, i know how upset these guys can get if you miss the birds th
