  1. I totaly understand what your saying mate and if im honest goshawks hadnt even crossed my mind, i realy want to have a go at breeding ferruginous as i think they are stunning birds and i dare say the first clutch they had i would keep a couple back myself and give the others to friends so i could monitor their progress. Harris hawks im not too bothered about ive always had a harris knocking about and i want to concentrate on other sides of falconry for a while. I quite fancy experimenting with falcons but not 100% sure which yet. The breeding side of thing wont be solely be for money it will m
  2. To be totaly honest jasper i am not too bothered on age of birds as if they are not steady enough for work they will be put into breeding. As for species i am hoping to cover a fairly wide spectrum so am looking out for most things i have a red tail, spar and kes coming soon so realy want a few owls, larger falcons and hawks. I have just moved back from northern ireland so am pretty much starting from scratch again as i couldnt bring my old birds back with me. ATB martin
  3. Hi, although the harris ia a very good beginners bird i personally reccomend the redtail, they are not as fogiving as a harris therefor you learn alot more respect for the birds, they are also alot more critical on the weight management side of things although they are a big bird and you are not going to kill it easily, you only have to ever so slightly out on weight and they will just blatently refuse to do anything. This is just my personal opinion on a starter bird. As it has already been said first off get yourself a mentor and some land. Once you have land look at what quarry is on it
  4. Yes it does help, lady hunter is my girlfriend, i wasnt aware she had put this up as i have just put one in the wanted section, we do not mind paying for the equipment or the birds. This add was put up as i am hoping to start my own buisness in the near future. Right experience, i started to learn the art of falconry nearly 20 years ago, i have kept my own birds for the past 11 years, i have trained and flown many birds including hh, red tail, peregrines, gyr, gyr x saker, sparrow hawk, kes and many more. I have had the privilage to hunt my mate female goldie for him in many occasions.

  8. I did not answer the add but i do knbow that the dog in the pic was originally from nwtownards and so was the add as me and my partner both spoke to the bloke in person who was selling the dog as we saw him out walking it before the add came up. Con artists. ATB martin
  9. Just a bump to refresh anyones memory.
  10. If his mind is made up then there isnt a great deal anyone can do about it although in my opinion he would be better with a red or harris. I personnally cant see what all the hype is with a gos i have flown red tails, hh, various falcons and a friends eagle and gos and personally i think you can have more fun with a hh or a red. The problem is that alot of newbies dont put enough effort into these birds and that is why they have the reputatoin of being a mugging bird or easy to train. Done right a hh or red will give you as much fun if not more than a gos. ATB martin
  11. If you talk to the boys over here that used to run lurchers 20yrs ago they swear by a first cross collie/grey for EVERYTHING. Atb martin

  15. We will be going to osmaston at the weekend as i am over in england visiting family. Why do people always give the judge a hard time at the end of the day its what dog they prefer. Dont get me wrong i have shown dogs and told the judge he needs to go to speck savers but its all in jest at the end of the day everyone is out to enjoy themselves and if you have to win a show with your dog to prove somthing there is somthing wrong because your only proving it to yourself. The judge could give your beddy X whippet first place that doesnt meen the boy who runs bull X next to you is gunna like it
  16. Lol, i dont think they will be better than a livebait..... I know what your saying but the catfish is a natural scavenger and if they are in carp waters they will more redily pick up boilies and pellets that carp anglers have thrown in than use energy in catching live baits. This is the reason so many carp anglers catch cat fish or get broke off and say it was a huge carp that snagged them up. Everyone has there own methods im just saying that i have found on carp waters you are better off with carp baits and if it is just cats that you want use larger baits. ATB martin ATB
  17. If its a carp water that your fishing them carp baits will be your best bait. I just used standard carp rigs myself, try a fixed lead on one rod then a running lead on the other. I like to use 22mm halibut pellets as a hook bait aswell as mixed size pellets for loose feed. Hope this helps ATB martin
