I've heard alot of good stuff about this cross. I would like to put my saluki/whippet/grey over a bull grey bitch in a few years if he makes the grade. He is about 1/4 saluki, would this be enough saluki in the mix? And would you put him over half cross bitch or 3/8 5/8 Not planning a breeding at all, just curious. Gaz

Lads who said about feeding pasta... I have read a few times that dogs do not use carbs for energy like humans. And that they get energy from fat. Is this correct or not? Gaz.

As said above just let him be a pup for now with basics only. One thing I will say is, my pup is 4 months and I've had him from 6 weeks, socialisation is key. Get him used to loads of smells, sights, people, dogs, noises, new environments etc. It helps loads. You hear of dogs being scared or things or nervous. My pup is dead steady in most if not all situations now. Ive taken him out in the car almost everyday since having him, took him livestock markets, to the shops in my coat, busy main roads, outside schools with kids etc etc. And if he gets bored a rack of lamb rib w

How many of you wash the dogs feet when you get back and how important is it? I read a thread last week about leaving mud in the toes causing problems. Gaz.

would it be possible to hunt wolves with dog's?
Gaz_1989 replied to robo-christ's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My sal/whip/grey is showing great promise. He is only 4 months but he rags his teddy bear like mad. I reckon he would make a mess of one of those timber wolves. Okay those of you who've got your aggressive replies ready... I'm joking! f**k that! You seen the size of those timber wolves? Could even a pack of big mastiff type dogs stand a chance? And wouldn't the wolves be in a large pack also? Ripping any pack of dogs apart? Gaz -
What you feeding at the moment? Get plenty of meat in it, lamb breast is excellent. But whatever you can get, mince, wings, necks. And tripe. Gaz

How are they bred mate? Like the 2nd one alot. Gaz

rspca help wanted [anyone know these dogs]
Gaz_1989 replied to parrots2's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Lanesra - Yes it would be a publicity campaign and no it would not help. What would grassing them to RSPCA do? Police would take over and most of the country would want to kick the b*****ds heads in. Then they would get offered protection from public and maybe get a community service order. If you know them just torture the fuckers. -

Well said carraghs gem. If I knew who it was, f**k ringing RSPCA. I know plenty of lads who would love 10 minutes won the scum bags. What will the RSPCA do? Fine them and stop them from keeping budgies for 6 months? -
My old EBT was the same when we got him at 4 months. We started by driving a couple of houses down the road then walk back home. Until we could drive a mile or 2. Just build it up slowly. Good luck.

I agree mate. My pup is a terrible teether. Chews like mad and can tell they are giving him some grief. But if I chuck him a rack of lamb ribs then they keep him good for a few hours no problem and he goes sleep after :-D Gaz

We had Snow in Stoke yesterday but not alot. Mostly gone now with the rain.

I reckon he will make about 25" tts. He has just started loosing teeth this week, biting like mad and chewing everything. Its all good fun. Glad magik is doing good :-)

My pup has had the below from 6 weeks... beef, turkey, chicken rabbit, lamb - all minced or diced. Also breast of lamb - the bones are soft and ideal for pup. Also green tripe, fat offcuts, various offal. And from about 10 weeks he's had the above plus poultry necks, chicken wings, lamb racks. Think that's it, there isn't much I wouldn't give him really, I've been told avoid weight bearing bones such as leg bones. But he had a leg of lamb on xmas day :-D Gaz

Sorry double post.

Mart - I weighed and measured him yesterday at vets when I went to get his worm tablets. He is 31lb and 20" tts. As you know they are 4 month old this weekend. He met sheep again at weekend and last night, so far so good. How is magik doing? Gaz.

Teaching a dog to jump...or not?
Gaz_1989 replied to DeerhoundLurcherMan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I started my pup jumping a 6" board on the way through the back gate a couple of times a week. Now we go out with the other dogs at weekends on mooches and I just let him make his own way around. Sometimes over, sometimes through or under. He is 4 months. As others have said, I wouldn't try to get him jumping 5' fences too soon. Teach the "over" command with a 18" wall or similar and then just let him take his time. Gaz. -
Exactly. A lad who just ferrets now and then ain't gonna have a big bull/grey or deer/grey which was bred for retrieving reds. The same way that a lad who wants something for big stuff day in day out wouldn't want a little whippet type.
-
Mate, if your staff is doing the job and you are happy then why not put a decent whippet over her? Just because she isn't from working lines, if she is doing the job then her breeding is irrelevant in my eyes. Gaz

Thanks for replys. This thread is actually a few weeks old. He is 16 weeks now and really calmed down. I've learnt that he was just playing, he is a bad teether and struggling with loosing his first teeth. He chews like mad and sometimes thinks my arm is his toy. But ALOT calmer than he was. And he knows what NO means. He is well socialised and I'm just concentrating on getting him out and about as much as possible. He is already getting the hang of working his way around field obstacles and is good with all sorts of new dogs and people. Just in the process of stock breaking

I want that Van! Lol. Great pics mate. We went out for a good walk yesterday morning. Didn't get anything, didn't even see anything, but great walk none the less. Cant beat just walking the countryside with dogs doing what they love. Pup met sheep off lead aswell and I've been waiting for that but all went well. How is the bull cross bred? Half cross? Gaz
