No you haven't put me off mate. I'm just really split down the middle. I love saluki lurchers and have got sal/whip/grey dog 24"tts should make 25"tts so I want a smaller bitch to bring on when he has had a couple of seasons and to eventually breed a litter from the 2 of them hopefully. But on the other hand ive always liked the collie lurchers and if I don't have one I will probably always wonder what if. Also I reckon sal/whip/grey over collie/whip would make decent little lurchers aswell. Gaz

Thanks for the input Neal. A few people have said that 1/2 collie is possibly too much and 1/4 is ample. I'm thinking about Collie/Grey x Whippet or Collie/Whippet x Whippet If I do go down this route. However I might end up dropping the collie altogether and goin for a saluki/whippet first cross, I'm not sure yet. Ive got a good year or so to make my mind up though hopefully. Gaz

My Pup wasn't showing any interest at all at 6 months. Then one day he started sniffing and having a look what the other dogs were doing. He is 9 months now and has given chase on bunnys a few times, daytime in thick cover so not caught anything but he is certainly keen. He has been out with the lamp a few times just watching and he iis 12 months in September so I plan to give him a few easy runs at the start of the season. Don't rush mate and let the dog mature. It will come. I've heard deerhounds can be slower to mature anyway? Gaz

Mick - PM me your number mate and we will sort something out. Wouldn't mind seeing your dogs. Thorny - Are you thinking about the 1/4 or 1/2 collie. I've just seen a litter of collie/grey x beddy/whip put back to whippet in an old countrymans weekly and these could also fit the bill for me. Gaz

Thanks for the replies folks. Vosey - That website looks good, will have a closer look now. MrPit - I will check out the local ones at weekend. Thanks. Stoaty - I've never heard of a club nearby but I will see what I can find. Thanks all. Gaz

Thanks for further replies. Mick - I wouldn't mind seeing that dog mate. You gonna come out for a walk with us sometime? We go the odd Sunday morning. The pup is doing sound, 9 months old this week. He is starting to settle down and show an interest in what's going on now. He will make a good dog I think. Gaz

Thanks, just seen him. That was the sort of thing I had in mind. Wouldnt mind a pup out of him put over a nice whippet. Gaz

Would THL be better if members were vouched for?
Gaz_1989 replied to johnny boy68's topic in General Talk
I thought about suggesting this a couple of years ago after I had a couple of obvious Antis sending me messages. The problem is, there are alot of decent folk on here who keep themselves to themselves and couldn't get vouched for. Until last year I hadn't met anyone off here. Also, just say I am an Anti, and I get in cuz ive been on here for a while and know a few people on here. Then I could vouch for 10 other antis. Once one got in we would be where we are now. And if we were so strict to keep them all out then we would end up keeping genuine lads out and have a very small forum -
Thanks for reply Millybot. I was thinking about a smallish 3/4 collie 1/4 whippet bitch around 20"tts. My pup is 12 months in September so I might look at getting another lurcher when he has had his first season so just exploring the options. My sal/whip/grey dog will make 25" tts and having a smaller bitch might make a good team and potential breeding project down the line. Has anyone got any pics?

Is she a first cross mate? Any Pics?

Does anyone know of anyone who makes quality walking sticks? There was a chap on here selling some about 2 years ago, think they were £20 and £25 which I thought was cheap as chips but can't find the thread now. Just looking for an old style staff for walking the hills with a V-Top or Horn etc. Gaz

Has anyone got a first cross collie/whippet or 3/4 whippet 1/4 collie? Would like to see pics, how tall are they and what are they like and what do they excell at? I've read that "collie crosses aren't for everyone" and "negatives outway the positives" what are the negative traits? Thanks Gaz

I really like the shorter, thicker set dogs of these lines. There is a photo above, 2 x brindle dogs with white chests. Who owns these and how are they bred? I would eventually like one, not to replace my lurcher but to work alongside. I've got the terrier for bushing, I've got the sal/whip/grey for running and I think one of these would be a perfect addition to the team. I've always wanted a staffy or ambull to take mooching with the lurchers but I think these are probably better suited to the game and obviously are from working lines and working staffords are hard to come by I think.

Thanks MissRhianL will give your suggestions a try. Mart - He was 5 months in that pic. He has done some growing since. He hasn't has anything yet but I haven't really encouraged him. We have seen a few bits out on walks and he has given chase, he is certainly keen. Took him lamping twice at the back end of last season just to watch. They are 12 months in september aren't they, so I will let him watch for the first month of the season and then start letting him have the odd run himself. Drop me a PM with your email or number mate cuz I don't get on here much anymore. Gaz

I've got a saluki whippet greyhound who lives outside. I started him off inside with a kennel outside for daytime. Anyway in January he decided he wanted to sleep out and wouldn't come inside, he was only 4 months. And he's slept out ever since. Gaz

What made you choose the breed your running?
Gaz_1989 replied to MissRhianL's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I always wanted a smallish, fast,, agile, smooth coated dog, mainly for rabbits - day and lamp. I was looking at whippets or whippet/greys. I then got offered a saluki/whippet/grey pup and at first the stubborn saluki blood was proving a major pain in the arse, especially for a first lurcher. However I have learnt how to deal with and work with the saluki blood and he is turning into a fine dog. If he turns out how I expect him to then I can't see me straying far from this breeding. Gaz -

Thanks for reply. I didn't think it was anything to worry about to be honest but it looks crap, especially with him being in such good shape and normally having a gleaming coat. I guess it could be the weather. He loves sunbathing and will rarely return to shade when the sun is out. Thanks for the tips. Gaz

My 9 month old lurcher seems to have developed dandruff over the past week. He is smooth coated and has a lovely shiny coat but has developed white flaky bits mainly around his kneck. He is fed raw 90% of the time and diet hasn't changed since he was a pup. Only change is he has always had the odd tin of oily fish and hasn't for a few weeks but wasn't sure that this could be the sole cause? Any ideas? Gaz

I am looking at getting the Li-Ion 14ah myself for the coming season. We currently manage with a SLA 9ah so the Li-Ion 14ah should be more than enough for me. Let me know where you find the best offer mate. Out of interest how do they connect to the lamp? Spade connections like the SLA? Gaz
