  1. dont believe the sh**e some folk will tell you ring your fire arms local office and ask them your rfd should know better!
  2. if you can afford it get custom and dont look back!you can order a cooper semi-custom and better than anything out of the box[fox firearms import cooper rifles about 7 month wait].as for what- if you go custom then the world is your oyster best actions come from america a good few rifle builders in this country do some research first and get ideas but beware- you will fill your head with sh** and you will meet yourself coming the other way.unless you have an idea then its a long piece of string syndrome.at the end though it is well worth it.example today with a custom 20 calibre rifle i own
  3. ok ditch. sounds like you have found the hornady disease iv tried every ballistic tipped bullet on the market in every rifle iv owned and always go back to hornady.the only downside to them [and this is from experience with my rifles]is they can hydraulic out on fur if the target animal is not hit square on this still drops em but not the desired result thats what you get though firing stuff at 4000fps! have fun mate
  4. ok keefyc ill chip in with my two bobs worth,as deker and john g have pointed out but what i will say is dont ,when you apply for your f.a.c request the 22. or the 17 hmr for shooting foxes.your f.l.o.[firearms liason officer] will tell you thats a no-no! you say your land sweeps up hill but it is also sweeps down hill when your at the top!you need to prove your competant to own a firearm before you actually own one. ita really easy for us "veterans" to give this advice but we have all been in that boat your in now.is the land passed for firearms use? if not thats your starting point.you ne

  6. i have a magazine that i subscribe to from the u.s.a called small calibre news its as it says all about small calibre rifles,in edition no1 vol9 spring which i have in front of me as i type there is an article on a guy called DAN KINNEMAN who shot a prairie dog with a custom build rifle a nesika l with a34" barrel in rem300 ultra mag with a berger210vld bullett at------ now get this 2157 yds!! no thats no bulls**t and if you cant guess how far that is it is 397yds more than a mile :icon_eek: it was done in stages he worked up to that range testing various rifle/bullet combos over a 2 y

  9. DAVID.go to reloaders nest.com there is athousand loads on there for the 22-250.
  10. cheers sporting yes you are correct the little pills dont exit the fox is a bag of soup when hit these 20 vmax are hand loaded and are doing 4200fps at the muzzle.OUCH!
  11. good point there alimac well the main reason is if the keeper disturbs the vixen with her cubs in day light you can guarantee she will move them then he has to find them again, we visit the known spots where fox earths have been in previous years[its an earth not a den]and as i stated he has approx 8000 acres of land thats a lot of land.this keeper will not allow terrier men onto his patch so its the rifle and i aint complaining.
  12. well done there id say a dog fox is big if its over 22 pounds in weight and a vixen 17 pounds that fella looks a nice size but any dead fox is nice in my opinion!
  13. went out last night with the keeper on a large estate[8000 acres] we were doing the rounds of finding the first cubs,we went to the first area a large wood with 3 strips of game crop leading to the wood[the game strip has been ploughed out] the keeper had been in daylight looking while doing his rounds.we lamped from the pickup for about 20 mins nothing showing.we use 2 lamps on his truck one is hand held used by me off the back this enables us to see over the hedges and saves driving into every field on the estate which is made up of 7 farms.the second is roof mounted so when we have a fox i
  14. are there alternatives to rymadyl i give them to a staff and working springer vets charge the usual arm/leg.herbal alternatives as well, cheers
  15. DEKER.if thats your problem get yourself a lapping bar for truing the rings square to the bases they are the best way to mount a scope and take any discreppancies out of the rings........ You can't...the screw holding mount a base together is UNDER the mount so you have to adjust everything OFF the gun!!! It should have a 2 point mounting system between mount and ring..at that price I expect good design and accurate engineering..this system has an obvious flaw!!! fair comment

  17. every set of bases or mounts iv bought for the last`10 yrs iv told the gun shop to give me the allen key- fu** me if they cant provide that worth about£2 at most then i walk away they soon cough up.
  18. good shooting snap.to test yourself further you should shoot back to where you started [if its safe]so your shooting reverse conditions i do this when possible it really tests your shooting skills as well as your nerve.
  19. as land rover says also warne and weaver do sako/tikka.why dont you like the optilck rings? iv got some on a m595 in 17 rem had them since i bought the gun[9 yrs now been rebarreled 18 months] and put 4 scopes on and not an issue with any one ,each to his own.
  20. weell done that man.a fox will wait for lambs to be born they are drawn to the ewes by the first signs of blood and the start of the sac emerging[i think thats the term john galway will correct me]they will also take the after birth before they take a lamb maybe thats what your man was doing any way good work.
  21. check your mounts/rings and adjust them first to save the windage adjustment in your scope.
  22. go steady with that petrol jacko remember chilli?
