  1. i used mine last night[yes in moonlight]i called a dog fox in to me on a golf course with hand calling he stayed out at about 200yds as he wasnt sure so i gave a few small cries with the fox call and he came in like a train big mistake!another one chalked up to the .17rem, they are good in the right situation but i wouldnt rely on it all the time i do use a mini colibri as well for long distance calling and a georgiescu call-fox whistle they all work but on differant days if there was an ultimate caller it hasnt been discovered -YET!
  2. clint.are you chinese ?add on systems are far better than dedicated i have a gen111 addon system last week i looked through a cobra merlin gen1 with a laser and to say i was amazed is an understatement you can shoot rabbits with this system at 100yds with ease so do a bit of home work before you waffle on.
  3. RICW.im calm now just gets my back up when -well you know!
  4. 17HMR is were it's at, and it is a 0.170 NOT a 0.177! You can also get (God knows who would want such a thing??) a .17 Remington Centrefire, when there are many other and much less troublesome calibres out there i.e. .223, 22.250, .243 etc etc. have you had a .17rem? if not dont talk out of your ar*e,the only poeple that slag them are the ones that dont know sweet f.a about them i have had one for 9yrs now had it rebarreled and shoot more foxes with it than any of my other rifles.
  5. get a add on system you use your day scope as normal even though you have to mount it forward then when dark your add on goes behind your scope,i have just got mine set up and scope zeroed in just waiting for the weather to improve to go out and shoot a few charlies.
  6. bigsid.life is a bitch -then you die. as others have stated get knocking, you certainly wont get a fac without land and any land owner/farmer wont let you on just so you can get your fac. i was lucky when i first applied i had a farm that i shot rats/rabbits on with air rifles, the farmer was /is a well known terrier man and he used to let me have a few shots with his rifles.that got me the bug,i applied and used his land for my application -bingo first tine no problem,in the next 2 years he taught me the dark arts of reloading and more importantly how to call, stalk, and lamp fox.that also got
  7. is that a free range fox then? good result-always a plus when you get something on your first visit gets you loads of brownie points-or some free eggs
  8. you hear stories of new firearms owners needing a "mentor" this is at the request of various firearms depts.what this means is open to debate.if they grant you a fac then they are confirming you are of sound mind to own a fire arm -then why would you need someone to hold your hand? i think in the not too distant future all new fac owners will have to pass some kind of competance test before being allowed to purchase a firearm. i hope that never happens but watch this space!
  9. as bagzi said- i have 6 on a farm i go on but locating the nest is nigh on impossible in 3 yrs i have only ever found 2 eggs these are roaming birds but if owt turns up i will let you know.

  20. as stated check with your insurance.tell plod what your doing and when saves the a.r.u turning up waving there h+k about i use a .17rem for a few golf courses and a cricket pitch all have houses to there boundrys. 50feet from a highway only if someone is at risk so you shoot away from it-common sense really, and if you can shoot from an elevated position even better.

  23. that old line springs to mind "if it aint broke dont fix it"i had a hmr for 2yrs only cleaned it once and that was when it tried to go swimming in a stream i tried to cross while out lamping.the accuracy dropped right off until i had put about 20 rounds through it.i reckon i used 1200 rounds in the gun while i had it and it never lost out when uncleaned
