  1. these are the idiots that released mink into the country side and we are still paying the price and so is most of our wildlife...we all have the right to protest......i personally have little time for the hunt..mostly pompass ass holes with little riding talent...but i will/do fight for the right to hunt be it on horses or even ferreting...why the hell should people in towns tell country people how to manage our ground...
  2. i use ase utra on my hmr..it was the best part of £300 but worth every penny...its unbelevably quite
  3. i use schmidt bender scopes...iv got a 6x42 fixed power on my 223 and that does 200 yard rabbits well and a 3-12x50 on my 17 hmr..was going to put the 3-12 on the 223 but its ended up on the hmr....i get on well with schmidt scopes so thats why i use the....some say the click adjustment isnt fine enough and also that the cross hair is a little thick....my 223 with 6-42 makes me look a far better shot than i actually am...........................
  4. dont let em get to you...you know if your dogs are doing it or not......i havnt got the best dogs in the country but there mine and i like them.....there are many arm chair hunters hear..that beleve they can run there super dogs fit....if i get five rabbits in a night thats what i post......i got some snotty pm's because i posted rabbits in the for sale section,so that the nob heads could buy them off me and post the pritty pictures.....it didnt go down well be proved a point.......
  5. 16 grain logan penertraters run well at 30ftp......iv even run accupells with good results....iv got some 30 grain pellets that will run up to 80ftp i used to run them at 30ftp rifle... my rifle i use now is 18ftp and the tragectory is like a pig jumping a log with the heavy pellets...pm me if you want to try some and i'll send you some.....
  6. be careful if you use it on a centrefire as well mate. as i was reading a thread on one of the shooting sites. cant remember which one now anyway the guy had been using a t8 on his 22lr and then sometime later put it on a centrefire he got. and it went tits up as the unburnt power what was left by the 22lr went boom. must have been litt up by the the centrefire bullet passing though so just be careful fella brilliant reply there...i had a slow burn in my ase..didnt go bang but lots of smoke and i s*it myself....didnt even think to mention it.....
  7. i think for a 22lr its over kill.complete waste of time...i use a £300 ase utra on my 17 and it works very well....though i must add i wouldnt of bought the ase to go on the hmr it was on my 223 and i needed a mod for my 17 i bought a t8 for £ so that went on the 223.....
  8. iv got a gsd bitch she's 8 now, will retreve no probs.wont mark or brush though..she's a little hard mouthed but i trained to to bite as a young dog so i cant expect her to be gentle...very easy to train to do pritty much anything you like..sad thing is you get them how you want them and at 8 or 9 years the hips can give in..
  9. what an idiot, who i there right mind walks toward someone when lamping??i think if you where in fear of your safety and you had the right to be on the golf coarse you could of used reasonable force...need to remember that society is paranoid about guns and it could of gone against you....if i thought i was going to get bitten id of done the same
  10. round hear they put a condition on centre fires all the time with new grants..one of the feo's had a new liecence for him self and they wouldn't even give him an open ticket he goes round and decides weather the ground is ok for everyone else
  11. .............................................................................. my old man target shoots every tuesday night he has had a marlin bull barrel semi for many years..it cycles on everthing.and iv never seen it jam.....my friend has a custom ruger from yorkshire and its a jem (£650)..i bought a ruger stainless synthetic.had nice trigger..because of my mates ruger....it really was junk...doing pp1 and 2 on the range it would jam.then the heckles would start..i tried everything to sort it,nothing worked i kept it spottlesly clean..chopped it in for my hmr in the end..i think a semi
  12. well mr logic i didnt think you needed a firearms liecence for obselete calibers???? so you should be able to have a hornet without??? ...VERY SORRY COULDNT HELP MYSELF ......the hornet was always the main stay of any keen hunter that knew his stuff..i only know one man that still uses one and he loves it and to be honest i can see why.they are a good round.it seems to me that the gun trade keeps inventing must have rifles (hmr mach2 etc etc) to keep there pockets lined..i have a hmr myself and wonder in years to come if it will go out of fashion?? at least you can reload a hornet...which
  13. Thinking of applying for my fac,I like the idea of a Ruger for truck work ,nice and short,my mate Magwitch uses an Anshutz b/a that is very accurate. What do you think of the other semis on the market Baldie?Do they need as much customising as the Ruger, and are they around the same price when tricked up?Thanks in advance ,I know you know what you are talking about.Inan. ................................................................................... marlin semi auto's are more accurate, dont jam anywhere near as much as a ruger..my dad has used one for years rarely cleans it an
  14. ................................................................................................................................................................ ..................................... i love the schmidt but there four times the price..im gutted with the mtc....its a shame....will say mtc customer relations is second to none and i think the 4x12-44 viper is brilliant......
  15. ............................................. you can do rabbits reliably at 70 yards with a 22lr..iv shot them out to 110 yards but your holding well over the target and you run the risk of wounded rabbits runing off...with 223 i shoot rabbits out to 220 yards but i only use a 6 power scope so thats at the limit of my skill really..youve got to be fairly good to take them further..alot of people dont use a range finders so distance is guessed alot of the time at not very accurate...
  16. 17hmr every time...hornets an old round these days.no one really bothers with then because 223/222 leaves them for dead.suppose if your into antiqe muskit type rifles there ok if people are honest i bet theres been more foxes shot with 22lr than most other calibers and it improves you field craft skills because if you cant get dead close to charlie you aint going to shoot one
  17. youve miss read what deker has said mate..deker is quite right saying you cant compare a 223 to a 17 hmr...i think your fao ment that you have a 22lr for close range vermin and the 223 for fox control and long range vermin....if its your first grant you are unlikely to get a 17 hmr aswell because some people get there first grant get some rifles and then realise that the sport is not for them, alot can happen in five years...and the powers at be dont want lots of unused rifle in circulation...and also dekar is right as regards my 800 fps for a 22 subsonic...they do move quicker than that....
  18. the 17hmr is a necked down 22rimfire magnum case it has a 17grain head and travels at about 2500 fps your 22lr on subs does about 800fps..if you ask for 17hmr say its for long range vermin and short range fox...the kill very well at 150 yards on rabbits and about 100 yards on fox..(bullet placement is important)there a great round some will say that they struggle in the wind..in strong wind we do heads shots at about 70 yards.calm days there bloody brilliant..i dont use my 22lr sinse buying the 17hmr..............
  19. for god sake DONT GET A RUGER..there shite..i got a cz 452 22lr as my first rimmy..i target shoot once a week..i really wanted a semi auto.so i bought a ruger 1022..fitted a trigger kit..got it as accurate as my cz, trigger was great...had nothing but trouble with it jamming..mag feed issues..tried standard mags..25 mags, pritty much went through them all..the rifle was kept spottlesly clean and it still jammed.tried various bolt buffers etc etc..couldnt wait to get rid off it......get yourself a cz 452 22lr..spend £15 and put a trigger kit in it and you will love it...brilliant rifles..nothi
  20. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, weve got a cz 222.iv cut it down to 18inches and screw cut it....we use federal primers 205......26 grains of 2230 accurate powder and 40 grain honarday v max tips....it groups well shoots out to 250 yards ok....smashes reds...will be trying vit 120 next because should get more fps but havnt played with the vit powder yet...i know a gun smith that will load develop your rifle give you 5 or 6 loads and all the targets charts etc etc for £160....he makes me look like a blundering idiot...we were using hodgdon
  21. if i where you id get a 223 and use a 40grain vmax bullit, if you zero at 50 yards it will be 1 1/2 inch high at 100 yards and 3/4inch high at 200 and bang on at 250..we also have an old cz 222 which uses 40g v max same primers and just slightly less powder..and its a great caliber..i prefer the 223 because it has slightly longer legs..i would buy a second hand 222/223.cz..spend decent money on a scope and stick a t8 mod on it..the mod will reduce recoil and you will get better groups out to 300 yards....we were hitting sugar beet out at 300 yards today....when you get a rifle you will need to
  22. nothing wrong with the groups at all mate.....would have been a dead bunny every shot.....
  23. ..have gone for a 40g v max bullet..2230 powder at 27grains, winchester 7 1/2 primers, there doing 3600fps, played about with seating depths etc and got sub inch groups at 100 yards so that will do for me..will see how i get on....
  24. ............................................................... i totally agree mtc as a company are brilliant but the 8-32x56 is crap.i hate it. ..iv took it off and put a 3-12x50 schmidt scope on the hmr...i use a 3-12x44 on my 22lr and i think its great..going to put the viper on ebay get what i can for it and put it down to experiance...
  25. apparently tikka quality has gone down the pan..my mate runs a rifle shop and they have had four come back with snapped bolt handle's its got so bad they are refusing to sell them unless the customer is desperate to own one..the cz centre fire triggers turn out quite well with some work..our 222 trigger is very good now.very crisp and no creep at all....
