  1. Look at it this way mate -You are hopefully breeding a first class worker and as such deserves to be worked and tested to the full to ensure the next generation are also workers. Those sold into pet homes may not be up to the job but may one day sire or give birth to terriers sold as 100% dogs .If they are shown at working terrier shows and do well then certain elements will ask to breed from these non workers and so on . The old belief that you can bring in blood from a terrier related to a 100% worker but which is non proven , does not in my book hold up in reality .Wastage is never ruled o
  2. Im afraid so Molly .Feedback is what we need to make sure we are doing right in the breeding .Ratting ,bushing is alright but not what we breed for .Dont get me wrong ,I enjoy a ratting session but the digging game is IMO the reason to put stayer across stayer .Most second rate earth dogs will perform at the above ground stuff but the real deal is needed to work consistantly below .
  3. Personally ,and this is just my opinion,I would never let a working dog go to a non-working home.Breed when we need them, pick what suits and put down any surplus down .Swap a pup from time to time but never accept money or expect to pay it .
  4. So I could be in for a double -footed and bit .The .410 for both might be the answer .
  5. Know the feeling .Place I do ,we go round on the quad and we can always expect to see a fox in one particular spot every outing in the corner of a field which leads onto the neighbours land which I also have. The fox stands for a second and then retreats through the hedge .Its day will come as there are plans to put in a hunt gate between the 2 farms .At the moment we have to ride down the road to get onto the next patch but if the gate is opened at the start of the night and the shot gun on board we will have it . On the subject of shy foxes it sometimes pays to get someone sqeeking loud
  6. Around us its down to the early bird ! The most I shot in a night was 10 near Brise Norton. The most I have been part of was 18 shot on a newly set up estate in Glostershire, mind you they were green as green .
  7. Looks to me as if the border is alive and doing well in your hands mate .Keep it up .
  8. So thats a yes then !Only Ive had an invite to go out and lamp with the lad and owl .Its my squeeking talents hes after [i hope ].Will post any results .Cheers .
  9. Yes mate a cub.3 litters were born here that I know of but only a few will see a terrier this winter .
  10. Feck me -This is surely the long way around trapping a mink .They are the most trap obliging creatures ever to be labelled vermin .Put that cage trap inside 4 pallets tied together. One pallet on top will stop anything from getting at the trap .Sort yourself out D.S.Fish for bait ,the smellier the better.Hope to see a pic of a dead mink soon .
  11. If you were to start a plummers appreciation society , you could hold your AGMs in a phone box .Bet they had to saw 10 inches off his nose to get him in the coffin .Pinnochio through and through . :realmad:
  12. Sorry lads ,I did not make it clear .I know its a loophole in the hunting act but the lad in charge of the owls reckons they take fox .I would like your opinions as to whether or not they will .Any experiences? .
  13. The lamp and shot gun not a problem mate ,its the continual lamping and squeeking that is the problem.
  14. After youve put all those toys back in the pram mate -there are good borders about that will work anything and stay so dont categories so easily .You may not be new to the digging game but you certainly dont know it all .
  15. Have you thought about getting someone to walk the wood out to you .This needs to be done by people who know what they are doing .On the other hand patience has paid off for you and a good result .
  16. One of the local hunts is adament that they will slip one of thes on a fox ,this coming season .Personally I have my doubts whether they are up to the job .What are your valued thoughts on this . Cheers -foxdropper .
  17. Had a look out with the .222 at a local farm where theyve had a bit of trouble with foxes amongst ducks .This is a regular thing as the trouble is ongoing ,the farmer not the sharpest tool in the box and refuses to lock up fowl until he goes to bed !.Most of the population is lamp shy now so will be dug later .This individual ,however came belting in to my squeek and realised at 20yds he had made a big mistake and made a "U" turn just as fast.I always treat every fox as if its my last and so got the scope on him as he moved off .Maintaining a lead ,I squeezed off a round and was pleased to see
  18. Chalkwarren -Nothing personal mate ,I've explained in a pm .-I do like that chocolate Bitch .Is she yours ?.Are you breeding from her ?. Oldskool-No need for apologies .Plummer always get me fired up .
  19. That "cronk-cronk " is something that gets me looking up no matter what Im doing .Hopefully they will breed around us .
  20. If its a hoax it worked as Ive had the warning 7 times .
  21. Do you have open water about mate -rafts are the way to go for mink trapping .
  22. IMHO It does not matter what terrier you start with mate .No doubt you are around people with experience that can guide you ,whatever your choice .In most cases a terrier is what you make it anyway .The most important thing is to get it from stock that suits your idea of what you want .
