  1. I like to think I was keeping close eye on her, so are you saying she must be pregnant as she is showing no sign now of season? When your ferrets runtogether do they come into season properly then take a while to come out of season after being served? If so that has not happened here. What are the first signs of pregnancy and when can I expect to see them? Sorry about all the questions
  2. I have a 3 year old jill that is really good and I want to breed from her . She lives in a court with a last years hob that I was hoping to breed with her. I have been keeping an eye on her but she doesn't seem to have obviously come into season, though about three weeks ago there seemed to be a slight change in her bits and the hob was being quite rough with her. If ferrets are kept together in a court and the males have access all the time do the jills still come into season properly? I have not bred ferrets before so is there a chance she just came into season ,got shagged and her fanny

  4. Totally agree, with this but definitely go for at least 6 z for ferreting. Go for a quick set kit if your a beginner, they're so easy you'll never look back. Bridport nets a very good. http://www.bridportnets.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=2078&zenid=v0vro29jbnh7i4b27o04komqh6
  5. I had a Robin who used to take ferret food from my hand when I fed them everyday. He was there one day gone the next and never came back.:-(
  6. I'd have to agree with you, I have a bedlington whippet x mainly for ferretting but I have found she is very good at following up deer. She has an awesome nose (shows the spaniels up on the local shoot) the only thing I haven't tried to train her to bay when she finds. When its dark I just put a collar with a light and a bell on it, give her her head and she never lets me down. She'll stay to heel and wait if I take her stalking but normally leave her in the truck and get her out after that late shot on the edge of a wood or in a crop.
  7. In this part of the world it is not that uncommon to see the young at the end of Jan, its the end of March now, always plenty about by now, perhaps late March is early in some areas but it isn't here! PS. There will not be a healthy population round here by the end of the summer, however fast they breed! I agree with Deker , seeing some young rabbits about now , I consider this to be very late. Will normally be digging to young while ferreting from xmas on...not this year though. Only just started getting a lot of heavy pregnant does and a couple of milky ones a couple of weeks ago. It
  8. This guy is a total nutter but pretty good...check him out catching red deer and fox barehanded. Respect is due he's got bigger balls than me
  9. Go for it.., I hadn't been out since I was a little kid so basically taught myself (20 years later!). Get a couple of books on ferreting and I know it's expensive but use collars as when you start you'll be crapping yourself that you'll ever see the little buggers again! They will give you confidence. I get out nearly every weekend through the winter now and have done for the past 7 years, best thing I ever did it is such good fun. I do alot of other stuff mainly deer stalking once or twice a wk but ferreting with a couple of mates and the dogs beats it all . Good luck.....it ain't rocke
  10. I have just used the magnet on the end of the finder , the other 'wee' one is long gone. I'll try it with a small strong pick up magnet I have and see what happens. cheers G
  11. Hi all , haven't been on here for ages. Glad to see there's still plenty of action going on out there. I have a MK3M (magnetic) collar that is a few years old that stated messing about, not working then working when you pressed it together. At first I thought it was just the little connector tab inside so I adjusted this and it worked so I thought great . Then the little bugger won't turn off at all and I have to take the batteries out to stop it . Has any one else had this problem, do you think it's worth sending back to Deben to check it out even if it's out of warranty? Any ideas appr
  12. I have 3 Eagle International 30 round 10/22 magazines for sale. 2 mags clip together for even more capacity. Good working order , some slight scratches. £26 posted each
  13. As above , sort of fantom pregnancy, it will calm down after a while.
  14. Cheers guys 6 days till due date, will let you know how it goes.
  15. Hi all , I have a Jill that I got served with a hob quite a while after she went into season ( 5 weeks ago). The hob is as yet unproved though seemed to do the required job. After a week or two her fanny subsided which I thought was a good sign. Since then she has been molting quite heavily, and seems to be eating more than usual, but I am worried as she does not seem to have put on any weight and does not seem fatter. I would have thought with only a week to go she would be quite fat. She has not had a litter before. Should she be fat by now or showing any other signs? or maybe she isn't
  16. Cheers guys some good ideas there, I'll definately give the pine cone and creosote thing a go, if thier out of his face he will probably relax. Also I recon that it won't work properly on this chalk and flint. Its a b*****d to dig at the best of times, if the locator says more than 3 ft I don't bother and sit and wait! Cheers George
  17. I was asked a year ago to sort the rabbits out on a 300 acre ex mod site that was heaving in rabbits. I was chuffed to bits and got stuck in heavily over the summer with the HMR shooting over 600 then this winter ferreting nearly every weekend (another 300+) concentrating on the more difficult to shoot areas.I have even kept right on with the ferrets till now. The rabbit population is much reduced and the owner is generally happy but there are certain places( particularly around where he lives) where there are some deep open burries that i repeatedly ferret and the rabbits still seem to rem
  18. Cheers guys, I've got 6 nice rabbits. Think I'll give the spit a miss and BBQ half and stew half that should cover all bases.
  19. Every year I do a demo for our local cubs and scouts. Take the ferrets , nets, locater , dog etc along and show them what its all about including skinning rabbits. I also take some rabbit curry/stew that my missus makes so they can try it. It is always a popular night for the kids and a bit of an eye opener for the more towny types who normally spend their lives infrot of a screen. This year its slightly different as it is combined with thier winter camp and they want to cook the rabbit at the camp fire. I've not every done this , is it any good on a spit type of thing or am I best chucking
  20. If you can afford it go Sako Quad or Weihrauch . The CZ is good and functional particularly the 16" version great out the vehicle but they just haven't got the quality. Another thing worth bearing in mind is that IMO a .17 really comes into its own with a decent scope on it, in an ideal world you would be spend the same if not more on the scope.
  21. great pics , let us know how you got rid of the flees
  22. I get 80p each. The good news is that is ungutted, and virtually any condition (not necessarilly netted) so long as full sized. So they can be close shot with shotgun or mullered by HMR he still takes em and I don't have to paunch em, that is the last thing you want to do when you've got in the back of the landy after a nights lamping.
  23. Gotta keep the kids interested. yeah I got a bit in tytherley, I love not having too mooch around or worry when the ferrets are underground any more. Yeah, TOMO, that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago, it's been mild like that every Sunday since. Still haven't had a proper frost yet. Nice one Bob, my photo has taken at West Dean, it's a beautiful area I only live over the hill. Keep up the good work
  24. Nice one mate, took my 4 1/2 yr old daughter out last saturday, with a mate. She helped where she could carrying rabbits and ferrying ferrets about. Just thought she'd manage an hour or two and get bored. But no she wanted to keep going! We ended up going on till 2pm and getting 30 bunnies one of my best mornings ever. She can't wait till saturday for another go. Pics on my phone shall try and post them. http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae24/georgelaz/PhonePicturesVarious2082.jpg PS. Are you the chap with land out at Tytherley?
