  9. A dog is more than a set of hips but breeding from a dog with that score is shameless.....
  10. Depends where you look, I got one last week ftch sire, dam ftw from NE Scotland, drop me a pm I might be able to help if I know where you are
  11. I know the breeder of that litter and can highly recommend him and the pups, you wouldn't go far wrong buying a pup from him Nicola
  12. The clue is in the quastion you posed, she's a pup and there's no way she's ready to be sat still for a length of time in a pigeon hide let alone firing a shotgun over her head.
  13. To be honesy I don't think there are more commands to add, probably less but it all depends what yo want him to do when he's a gundog. I would use a hand signal , full hand for the sit rather than a finger so this can be used to sit him at a distance in further training, as he won't see your finger at 100 yards. For my dogs :- Hup - sit and stay until told to do something else. They also stop to whistle and look for command. Heel - Exactly what it says on the tin Get Out - along with hand signal means a straight run back from where they are pointing. Go back - once stopped
  14. I ordered one of these last week, excellent service arrived quickly and exactly as described, great guy to deal with so I would happily recommend him Nic
  15. 1st suggestion - try having the dog a while longer and bond with it before you take it out on a shooting day
  16. Nowadays it's not just hips and elbows that people look for in a stud dog for health tests, there is also now CNM and PRA tests done by swab and the dna tests done in specialist centres and thats just the start of the new test, I agree with everyone else in what they are saying in regards to the dog also proving himself as a worker. Nicola
  17. I expect my spaniels to flush and to retrieve and do long distance marking and retrieves as well as my labradors, all my dogs go roughshooting, but mainly spend 50-60 days a season picking up, so all the dogs are expected to sweep up after drives or go for marked retrieves on runners etc as required, I hate breeds being pigeon holed, it's all down to the training involved and the standard you want to achieve.
  18. dram Nice looking pup, best of luck with him Nicola
  19. Spend 5 or 10 mins with each pup on their own with you and judge how they react, if they are keen to come to you, take a sock or a hankie and see if they will retreieve for you, how old are they just now ? I would normally do that 7 or 8 weeks old to see what they are like, most of all go for the one you like, liking a dog/pup means you will put 100% into him, if you just settle for one you will train half hearted, at those ages it's a lottery, good luck Nicola
  20. When I have a litter for example I pick the stud dog and brood bitch very carefully , I might drive hundrds of miles for a stud dog, and then there's the care of the bitch in whelp, good quality feed, sometimes a vet bill associated to the whelping, good whelping box, pup milk, wormer, warm vet bed, heatlamps etc depending when the litter is due, keepping the pups well fed and looked after for 8 weeks, vet fees for docking and dew claws maybe if spaniels, and you hnestly think people would do all that then give you a pup for free ????????? Good quality pups whether pedigree or cross breed
