You seen that Billy set at kelham Tomo can see difference in the wood from roadside they reckon it's been there since Roman times many a terrier paid price in there I never hurt black n whites but used to watch em in summer most I've ever seen in one place was there and set went all through that hillside farmer there used to keep an eye on them. Have ended nights watch by making noise and amount going back to ground was deafening ... Good hares on flat land in

Used to be lifting didn't it pal I reckon keepers and bullet guns did their damage and disease too I remember you lived near there I still walk opposite banks in winter on my own and think on what it used to be like kneeton was first place I learnt to call hares in when they were too wise to get a slip on long time ago now ?
-
I remember nets the lads knitted back then they had them.down to a fine art four strand long nets that would catch better than the single strand I can remember kneeton when four nets would get dragged down the Trent bank with so many rabbits in them ? I believe kneeton held the record for many years local even better than traveling to saltfleet the dales etc I bet there is not many rabbits there now we used to get caught pegging by the airodrome security but they always let us get on with it ? Times have changed wildlife has changed and it ain't for the better I know from post

I learnt a lot regards judging working hounds from that family I had a real good deerhound grey from Newark and I met petes brother in the town one day he said nice bitch and first thing he did was feel front legs for callouses he said bitch had done a lot of graft that was something that stayed with me ... I have another tale about Pete I can't tell it involved a large game species that was too heavy to carry and a certain hall near us pal ? Happy days for sure ?

On every time here I keep em cut short from a pup and I run fast grass a lot only ever had one pull a dew claw in forty years and they turn tighter with them on I honestly think plus they are handy if hanging onto something bigger ? Each to their own I've heard the argument many times it's a personal opinion id say and one that doesn't make that much difference in reality ?

Look at the date of above post I used to ferret with an old boy Near me if you didn't get fifty you had a bad day it was Ron Haslams brother the bike racer I've seen grounds wiped out with this disease I see it still and now on lands north of me ? Myxi was never a worry this is when you go to land that had loads of bunny's and now there isn't a Warren open it speaks volumes. They don't want us feeding ourselves is the only excuse I can think of and I stand by that view ?

You got it pal hard times made hard dogs and men when you think back over the century's there was a time folk brought drop eared Saluki types in to prove they had been in the crusades they used to deport folk to Australia for Coney hunting and dogs in Sherwood forest had their middle toes chiseled off its been a hell of a world for our beloved lurchers and pure breds this covid bollocks is no different we will see folk poor again and in need of filling a bag and feeding a street or a village ? So for some it will be happy days and will help strengthen what we have yet again ? Trouble

Bless ya Tomo you was right it was the new Inn old Pat froggat who had moon madness was to be found there when we wasn't out lamping I'd never known moon madness before it's definitely a real thing ? His bitch Nina was a good bitch but lamp shy as pat used to twat her with the lamp ? No a good bitch and caught big numbers ? My lamping partner back then lived at the back of the pub he had more get out of jail free cards than anyone I have ever known before or after ..
