  1. All very interesting. This is my first Collie and perhaps my last Dog. I find the Collie fascinating after a lifetime with the German Shepherds. Many GSD"s but only two absolute top quality Dogs (temperament). I wish I had come to collies earlier but not so. I have been very interested in lurchers all this time and the care that goes into their breeding compared with the rubbish principles adopted by the pedigree fraternity. Some time ago I travelled from Cornnwall to just north of Glasgow for a Plummer Terrier. Whilst there they told me that they took a lot of Plummers stock around the time w
  2. Thats a sad story you must have been gutted. My Fly is totaly uncaring of her own safety. If I am retrieving with her and throw an object I have to be careful in grass that there is no big stones around. She goes in so hard the result could be a smashed Jaw. Usually I just hide objects and send her to find them. More interesting for them.
  3. This is My Bitch 10 years old and fit as a fiddle. Always one step ahead of me. Rescue dog so spayed. Shame I would love to have had a pup from her. This Bitch changed me from having Dogs as a first choice all other things being equal. Temperament is king though.
  4. Lovely looking Bitch?? lots of collie come through. What is she like and how old in the pic.?
  5. I think you are probably correct. Does nobody work that cross? I have a Working Type collie that is magic as a companion and I was wondering if I would like a Collie/Whippet as my next dog.
  6. This must be very variable but generaly speaking what is the temperament of the above pairing. I mean straight cross. Are they more like the Whippet or Collie in temperament.
  7. I think it is that dogs being opportunists and not knowing when the next meal is coming, if they see protein in the poo gobble it down. Its perfectly normal anyway.
  8. All dogs eat Rabbit poo. Even I eat Rabbit poo.
  9. Has he only done it the once? For what its worth and I am fully expecting to get jumped on for this. You need the cooperation of somebody with sheep. Get a foot long piece of substantial Chain better still two pieces and as noisy as possible. It must be heavy enough to hurt the dog if you throw it hard. Then 25 yards of the thinnest line that is strong enough to stop the dog if he hits it in mid run. But not so heavy to make the dog constantly aware that he is on what is essentialy a long lead. Approach a small group of sheep with the dog on the line holding the chain in your fist keeping it q
  10. They are target Rifles 6ftlbs more or less. Still for a while the FWB300s held the world record for the number of rabbits killed in a night. That was scoped. I have a Diana 75 that is 7ftlbs. They are so nice to shoot that 5 out of 7 of my much reduced collection are 6ft lbs German Rifles. The remaining 2 are a much pimped 99 and a TX 200.
  11. I used to part time live in Spain They are hard on dogs in spain especially Podencos. We regularly when out in the scrub walking or on the canal on the bikes used to come across ferral dogs. If you managed to get one to approach you and give him or her a bit of affection it was fatal you were stuck with them. I have the image of a bull type trotting past us with a flattened rat in his mouth trotting home which was probably an old concrete pipe left by the builders. My Mate in lanzarote once took a stray Jack in for best part of a week. His wife broke her heart as when they were going home in
  12. Having problems here. Anyway the grips are £3 from China on ebay. You get the colour that turns up but they are very good quality and about 2 week turn around and surprisingly good.
  13. Surprised at that. I have many times tried on the lower power but find the full power much easier. The general concensus is that they are easier on the high power. Have you given it a good go on high power. I have had this a week and not even tried low power from my previous experience with the 45. I have had the 75 but I honestly believe that the hw40 is every bit as good, not as glamorous but half the price.

  15. This is my third I have had two before this but ended up chucking the gun at the target. Shall we say i was not the best. I have some new Hogue grips on the way and its also getting an Aussie piston seal and a new spring and breech seal. Its about 7 years old pre new Truglo sights. Not a mark on it.?
  16. I am watching Deadwood at the moment. It would be ok if there was more swearing in it. Seriously great series.
  17. You are spot on and put it very well. the British Bull Dog is a lovely dog but just look at what they have done to it. They set the standard, Broad chest Flat face Bowed legs. The breeders set out to breed the flatest face the broadest chest and so on. Another example Pekinese, Sharpei, King Charles Spaniel. The list just goes on an on. The GSD bears little resemblance to the dog that Von Stephanitz created and he must be spinning like a top in his grave. I dont know about the Mal. As far as inherited faults go. If i was a young Man I would love to give one a go.
  18. Its just doing what pups do. It will grow up and get steadier. Meanwhile just do things with it. These are vital times. Dont take the pup out for a walk, take it out for a play. Surprise the dog with a game when its not expecting one get it facinated with you. Dont encourage it to go of and play with other dogs or the habit will get set and this is what he will train himself to do. Put the mobile away and concentrate on the dog and be one step ahead. Getting a play retreive is vital at this time. Using a ball to start with will do no harm. I used a thrower many years ago but overdid it and if
