  1. If I won big on the lottery I would put my four great nephews through private school. My grandson is already being privately educated , it’s expensive, but his Saudi family pay the best part of that, all I do is basically buy his sports kit and put a bit into a small trust fund each month. Yes, I know people will say they went to the local comprehensive and they did ok, well, so did I, but I’d say the vast majority of my education and qualifications came after I left school. Comprehensive gave me the basics, but now with the left wing education system putting more emphasis on “inclus
  2. The two bosses I mentioned were in the UK , the first one insisted I did one day release and one night class in mechanical engineering and one day release and one night class in electrical engineering when I was an apprentice. The second boss was when I’d served my time and he must have seen something as he sent me on all sorts of courses, one of which was to Smiths Industries at the beginning of the tachograph era to learn how to fit and calibrate them and also put me through the HGV class 1 and PSV test so I could “prove” the installation. After that he moved me to the R&D dep
  3. I wouldn’t want to change my career path; it went on an upward trajectory from leaving school and becoming a diesel mechanic to retiring 20 years ago as an Airline Engineering Manager. There were a lot of factors involved in this including luck, being in the right place at the right time, willing to work hard and take risks, willing to go out my comfort zone and learn new skills and not least having two bosses who saw something in me and pushed me hard and gave me opportunities to move up. Cheers.
  4. Not one of mine , but a mate I was with had his dogs back open up like a sleeping bag zip running a hare through a barded wire fence. Just part of the game back then . Cheers.
  5. I take a great interest in my eight year old grandsons education and future career. When I ask him what he’d like to do, he tells me he wants to play for Real Madrid, but if he doesn’t make the grade he’d like to be a banker ! Lofty aspirations but at least he has a back up plan ! LOL ! I’d prefer he followed his late dads career and become a diplomat. Happily he is very academic and enjoys exams and tests and gets annoyed if he isn’t top of the class in everything, but he also enjoys horse riding, karate, swimming and playing football, so he is having a well rounded childhoo
  6. Yeah, he won his BWRA Rch title on both straights and bends, and won his NWRF Rch on bends. A terrific achievement back then as there was far more dogs and far more races, including regionals, to win before getting to the final. I well remember the days of walking to the whippet racing, coursing a hare or two on the way, having a few races then a course or two on the way back. Something the non-ped racers wouldn’t dream of doing these days. Cheers.
  7. Was that Indian Joe the non-ped whippet or Indian Joe the greyhound? Reason I ask is that Indian Joe the non-ped won his titles on straights and bends. Cheers.
  8. The greyhound was Burnpark Time, which was sired by Droopy’s Kewell, which was sired by Larkhill Joe. again, the very best of breeding on both the whippet and greyhound sides ‘ Cheers.
  9. The two stud dogs that have probably had the most influence on non/ ped whippet breeding; Bilko; Blue Peter; Cheers.
  10. Another top non-ped stud dog from yesteryear; Rch. Haymaker; I had a pup sired by him, out of my brothers bitch Flossy, a 32lb Rch Yorky boy x greyhound bitch. Cheers.
  11. Max’s two young bitches; Both out of the same coursing bred bitch, but the fawn one is sired by the pure saluki, Snickers, and the black one sired by the non-ped Sky Warrior. It will be very interesting to see how they compare in pace, stamina, etc. I look forward to seeing their progress ! Cheers.
  12. He’s right into football now, but he still has his horse; Im not sure if he takes after the p***y side of my family or the Bedouin side of his mothers family ! Cheers.
  13. The Slacks and many others ran deerhound crosses around Selby and Drax for years. Cheers.
  14. No mate , they are doubles ! Its a picture Karen from Ruweis Salukis sent me from Bahrain. Cheets.
  15. Done, mate. I think it’s a good thread if it’s kept on track. Cheets.
  16. What on earth has that got to do with this thread ? The original poster asked opinions on mating his coursing bred bitch with a non-ped whippet, I gave my opinions and an example of a non-ped, iIndian Joe, being in the line of some top class coursing dogs. Take of the blinkers mate and enjoy the ride . Cheers.
  17. Not the point; if people like Karen’s father hadn’t imported Salukis from the Middle East, you’d all still be running deerhound crossed ! LOL ! Cheers.
  18. Hmm… not sure about that. An old acquaintance of mine, Karen Fisher of Ruwais Salukis has had coursing Salukis since her father imported them from Saudi and Bahrain many years before they were seen in Hull ! Notice the cropped ears; Two of her dogs; Cheers.
  19. To be honest I don’t know any one who works a top class racing non-ped. They are only interested in winning races and getting the elusive Racing Champion title. Then again , I’ve never met a greyhound owner who’s aim it is to win the Greyhound Derby running their dogs on hares . Its all down to what you want, if you want to add a bit of speed to your lurcher line, use a working whippet; if you want to use the very fastest, use a racing non/ped. There’s pros and cons to both. Cheers.
  20. Very late 60’s , early 70’s. Cheers.
  21. Back on track. Perhaps the greatest non- ped stud dog, Supreme Racing Champion Good As Gold; Cheers.
  22. Both a pair of c**ts… one literally, one metaphorically. Salam Alaykum.
  23. "The History Of The Coursing Dogs Of Great Britain" is only a minor part of the curriculum I have set for my young protege on his long road to enlightenment and nirvana ....... Namasay.
  24. Just spoke to Max, he remembers a 16 dog stake he won with Splodge and either Carson or indie was in it and he thinks Indian Joe was in their breeding, Just a bit of interest, and better to be reminiscing about dogs than arguing about politics and covid ! LOL ! Cheers.
