  1. a dog that bites and shakes kills faster and takes less punishment back than a dog that holds, to be honest i dont think a 30lb coyote would be much of a test the test would be in the catching it in the first place Your entire statement is completely wrong in every way but you are more than welcome to come prove all of us, who know better, wrong.
  2. Two dogs about 70 pounds can do real well if they are good dogs. The exceptional dog, usually male that weighs 85 pounds or so and has a bunch and a bunch of fire will take a yote single handed. I am sure there are dogs out there that would be exceptions to all rules though.
  3. That is a stunning lookin dog. You seem to have him in good shape also.
  4. I needed to add that with these particular dogs, I have only been out with the mules about 4 times or maybe 5 or 6. I had dogs before that I did it alot with but got most of em killed or they just werent no good and got shed of them. These are the best running dogs I have owned personally and we will be hittin it damn hard come about mid December, mostly huntin only off mules.
  5. With the mules or on foot you can be out half a day or better, depending ya know.
  6. Ya, that day it would have cooked any dog damn near no matter what the hair length was. That was just stupid on my part to let him at it. It was too close to the other run. Not tryin to double talk here at all. It was my fault he got hot that day and it would have cooked a slick coated dog too. Too warm and too back to back on a yote anyhow.
  7. Thanks for that post badger. You are better with explaining than I am. The staghound is the pinnacle for sure in my opinion. The great thing is that with a tweak here or there, you can have an outstanding dog for other quarry besides the coyote. My dogs are not good fox dogs and they damn sure aint good hare dogs but with a tweak here or there, you got what you need and the outstanding part is that with another tweak here or there, you can put them right back into being coyotes dogs. I believe this is the best way to breed dogs. I dont believe in starting over every other generation. A
  8. Bosun, maybe a guy oughta do that. I dont really think about that stuff to tell ya the truth. I just road them alot and keep them in pretty good shape and it seems they dont really get that awful hot. I got water all over the place too so maybe thats why I am OK. Maybe I oughta try it though. I just truely never thought that it bothered him that awful much. He is still recovering from a real bad wreck that would have killed a lesser dog in my opinion but he made it through with my wife babying his ass for a few weeks. He is lucky he has her or he might not be here right now.
  9. I would love to come over there but I want to do that big deer yall got over there, doubled up of course. I dont care if I win, I want to do it.
  10. No Matt, not quite as heavy. HAHA! I guess an average coyote goes between 30 and 35 pound, the bigger ones around 40 or so. They are very violent animals though.
  11. He is a staghound or greyhound or coyote dog. No particular breed really. He is 28 to 29 at the shoulder and weighs 90 to 95 pounds.
  12. Here is a pic of him this spring when we was out walkin and jack assin around.
  13. That second one there was the first out of two that he did back to back single handed within about 5 minutes of each other. I about screwed up though and got him whipped off the second one cause he was too hot. The first day we tried him when I bought him, he did two back to back single handed about 10 minutes apart but it was alot cooler out and it wasnt too awful tough for him at all.
  14. Here are a few pics. Some aint the best but they'll do.
  15. One more thing Badger, about how tall was the big yella dog and approx weight?
  16. Thanks for puttin that pic up badger. I always wondered what that male dog looked like. Leggy mother f@&$er aint he.
  17. He is the yella dog on the throat. He is only 7 months old in this pic.
  18. Here is a son of Grace named Hoss. He is 3/4 stag and 1/4 bulldog.
  19. I would breed to a good working greyhound. I dont see any reason to breed a dog bred like that to anything else. A good greyhound is about as good as it gets for all around catchin critters.
  20. Sorry, I somehow screwed up how I put the pic up. Have no idea how though.
  21. A pic of two of my rough coated dogs doin what they do.
  22. you guys over there in the USA are well known for being in to "line breeding" HAHAHA! You know what they say, when it aint broke, dont fix it. LOL! On a serious note, a fella named John Wick bred brother to sister for 4 consecutive generations and never seen one recessive trait pop up that made the dogs unusable. He noticed that their performance never got no better nor any worse and he really wished that he would have went on from there to see what the 5th breeding would have produced. These were not lurchers though, they were coondogs. I have a gyp on my yard that is out of
