As others have said, its still only very young and you will get set backs. Keep the retrieve training going with easy to retrieve items, the teddy, and then slowly move the dog onto other objects, fluffy toys are fun for the dog to retreive, i got my old dogs to retrieve shotgun cartridges, sets of keys, hammers, dog bowls, anythingg weird, ungainly, heavy etc BUT i only introduced unusual and difficult objects when the dogs were older. Also NEVER do retrieve training with a young pup in the presence of another dog. Keep it fun, light hearted and all sessions short.............

Andy, would yu consider adding, or rather would you of considered adding imported shepherd into the mix? I don't mean the show or pet shit, but imported stuff. Mine were physically sound, agile, good feet and coat, prey drive and a surprising amount of blow..........

Firstly if your dog is only recalling some of the time, then you DON'T have a recall. I would go back to basics in an enclosed area such as a garden and ensure your recall is 100%, THEN i would start adding small distractions, only then would i take the dog somewhere else and continue with this training, perhaps on a lunge line. At no point until you have a solid recall would i let the dog off the lead anywhere it can be given the chance to ignore you. Forget the electric collar, not being rude but your question would indicate you don't have a great deal of experience training dogs and u

Fed and watered during the day? Exercise the dog in a morning, give it a feed if you like and it will probably sleep most of the day, just ensure it has access to a warm cosy, and draught free sleeping area with fresh water available..............
