  1. Sure Shot that was a very good post, great advice. Knifebar any of the fast stepping .22's will do this to a fox, it is all to do with the projectile type, a soft point or hollow point 'explodes' on impact and becomes much larger in diameter, thus causing the lage exit hole., that is why a lot of proffesional fox shooters (when skins were worth money) used to use the little .17 centrefire. The only 'disadvantage' with the .250 is the noise.
  2. Yes Fish all legal species can be taken with a bow, I have a Hoyt Powertec 60-70 lb compound and a Bear Grizzly 60lb recurve that I use from time to time. How about in your neck of the woods?
  3. Cheers Bowsers, no Lablad there was no bang, practising quality game management.
  4. Both great cartridges, but the 250 does have a lot more grunt. it is a .243 shell necked down.
  5. Are you eating it at some time, don't leave it too long as they get huge very fast and then it is hard to do anything with them.
  6. Not sure what lights you are referring too Roller, but if you are after a handy scope/lamp setup, lightforce do a fairly good one. Just realized what you meant Roller, are u talking about 'Surefire' type torches and the many spin offs that you see on tactical weapons? If so mate, they are generally used by the military and law enforcement agencies for enclosed spaces and relative short range and are no substitute for a spotlight (lamp). They are extremely bright and as such they have a very short battery life. They were basically designed with the idea of stunning the person on the re
  7. Nice dogs Merrihunter, looks like you had a good day. How do the Saluki's compare in working ability to your Saluki/Lurchers?
  8. They are known as a Holden Rodeo in Aust. and are a top little truck, not sure about sharing any running gear with the Frontera though, I wouldn't compare 1 to a Frontera though as they are a hairdressers car. (toy)

Tawny, just wondering how you went with the binos?
  10. I'm with Hairybull, sounds like an infection. See if you can get yourself some 'Clavulux' tablets (penicillan). They work an absolute treat. You can also use 'Debrisol' spray (clear) or 'Teramacyn' spray (pink), which are probably available from any farm supplier. They may be known under a different name in the UK, if so, just ask for a broad spectrum antibiotic spray and give the wound a good spray a couple of times a day. Hope this helps, good luck.
  11. Looks like a mean bit of kit Firepower, what motor is in it?
  12. AI L96 Is it a .338 Lapua Mag? Good for over a mile.
  13. Some great shots there Dev.
  14. Cheers mate, yes they are legal game
  15. Went out with my odldest lad this arvo to photograph some hares, only seen the 1 and he was too fast. Anyway we were got down near the stockyards and my boy spotted these 3 heading back up into the high country. Some people may remember Stab's post about the wild goats, well these deer where photographed below where the goats live. We are experiencing our worst drought in anyone's memory at present and the deer tend to move away to sweeter, lower country when there is no feed left, however we have had some much needed rain over the last 2 months and there is plenty of feed around, so they
  16. Cracking pics mate, the fourth 1 is an absolute beauty.
  17. Snap Shot, I found a Sako stainless at a local dealer today in 6.5, $2200, my Mrs just looked at me! What sort of money are you paying over there. I think i'll go back to the Ruger 77, Been looking at Rem 700 but they don't do it in 6.5. Will definitely keep you posted on progress. V-max thanks for your thoughts, much appreciated. Bullet placement would be a lot more precise with the milder calibres I think. Staghound that's because no one uses the 6.5x55 I would say and after reading pages and pages of ballistics and from what blokes on here have told me I have no idea why it isn't us
  18. Anyone that says they've had them all, but sticks with landy's obviuosly hasn't had anything but, come on you must be having a laugh. People keep banging on about Landrovers having more clearance, where the hell do they get their info from, Most of the models have nearly the same fecking clearance straight out of the factory regardless of make.
  19. That hairy dog is a pearler mate.
  20. Hi Snap Shot, sounds good with the Sako mate, that's the exact one I'm looking at. Its a fairly old pic that, bullets were Winchester 130 PSP's and they destroyed everything in their path, but that bloke just wasn't giving up. Doesn't matter a sh#t now, I have been looking at 6.5 ballistics and on what you fellas have said I am sold. Just goes to show doesn't it, I have definitely learnt something that I would have never believed. Top stuff fellas.
  21. Cheers for the info Kiwi. My last .270 was a Ruger, it was a top rifle but had the worlds worst trigger and they were not that easy to 'fix' at the time, I believe Ruger have rectified that though. I have found a couple of Sako dealers near me so will give them a call tomorrow for prices and such. As for the .270 on deer, I am not sure of the issue, the pic is of a spikey I shot for meat from about yards through the shoulder, he took of at the shot and I ran over an escarpment and hit him again in the throat and he kept going! He ran about 70 yards all up. The brindle dog tracked and fo
