  1. Cheers fella's, sounds very tempting, I ordered a new Rem 700 .270 recently but I think I may look at a 6.5 in something. There are plenty of ex-military jobs around but they just gather dust here as no one wants them, everyone seems to be going to the over rated short magnums. I don't really want an military job either as am in the market for a newy. I must admit I have hit deer with my .270 and had less than perfect results, quite possibly the factory ammo I was using. Thankyou very much for your experiences, will keep you posted on progress.
  2. then for dogging ive always had subys then got a old rangerover now i have awoken and have a landcruiser 4.2 vx.goes anywhere is fast as a 2.0 legacy handles weel will all its diff locks goes anywhere. is bloody well made solid as a rock absolutly a1 Buy that man a beer, Toyota series!
  3. Have been shooting a .270 for years and don't have an issue with it except for noise, would just like to hear other people, who have used these calibres on game give their opinions. You are obviously happy with the swede. What type of range are you shooting at? I feel quite comfortable shooting red's and boar with a .222 loaded properly, the best part is the non-existent recoil. It is much easier for a head shot with this mild little calibre, and yeah when out lamping you do get sick of the bigger calibres. Nobody over here uses a 6.5.
  4. Done a hell of a lot of hunting at Texas MB, back in the hills towards Glenlyon Dam. The first boar in my pic in the Boarhunting forum was a Texas Boar.
  5. Good going Magwitch, love the first pic.
  6. Yes MB1 known quite a few of this lineage and you probably couldn't find a harder dog. Where did you work them?
  7. WH, if you go to the Boar hunting forum and have a look at 'My Pigdogs' post all the dogs in the pics are EBT crosses to differing degrees. Might not be used for the game you are used to hunting but they are EBT's none the less.
  8. Simoman I am not much on Great Danes, but I swear by Wolfy's, love em, they give height, bulk and ability, something I have never seen in a Dane. That Great Dane in the pic had about 10 pigs run clear out in front of it and didn't catch 1! Don't get out on pigs a lot at present, too busy with other stuff, but will be out there again in 08. We do hunt year round but need to be careful in summer, the heat is the biggest factor. Thanks for the rap on Ben mate. J's dog was bred similar to Ben and she was a cracker too, she is actually the mother of the little bitch up top, I think we had
  9. Just wondering how you find the 25/06 compared to the .270 in regards too range and knockdown power, also Snapshot the same for the 6.5, any info greatly appreciated fellas.
  10. I have seen him in a video hunting Cape Buffalo, he really puts it on for the cameras, but yes it is a good read, some scary stuff.
  11. Yeah Simoman he was a lump of a dog, his best attribute was he wouldn't start fights, but if needed he would finish them, I think it was the wolfhound that gave him this attitude, yet put his breastplate on and as all he wanted to do was smash a pig and only a pig. I know you don't drink alcohol mate, you guzzle it! Mum loved that Vodka but I think the Mrs warned her of it. Hell its potent, reminded me of Mekong it did. Yeah mate, I think most those dogs would probably be gone now, they were good trips and good workers. I have a video on the bramble job that the Big Swede put to
  12. Sh#t mate, theres some good pics there, few years back now, must be your beer I am holding. That little boar had bleedin sharp tusks didn't he.
  13. Bleedin funny topic, I read 1 post where someone ate Kangaroo in a Mongolian restaurant! Am I missing something here?
  14. Have a copy of this Simoman, good read, but yeah some of his yarns are a bit tall I think.
  15. Sorry for taking so long fellas, thanks very much for the advice, took pc back to the store and they upped the ram for me.

    What deer

Cheers for sharing the post Ghengis, but I think the people running the site are a little bit muddled, after having a quick look, their image of a red deer is an elk or a hybrid, and then they go on to show an elk and a moose as the same species.
  17. Grea shots and looks good sport aswell.
  18. .270 is a top calibre, can be loaded from as low as 90gr projectiles up to 150gr. It is a fairly large calibre and the recoil in a well stocked weapon is quite acceptable. But for anything under red deer in my opinion it is probably too much gun, it is awesome for those far off shots. It is only acceptable on small game if you head shoot though. Hope this helps
  19. One of my lads with a chook murderer!
  20. Some beauty pics there, certainly a big fox, thanks for sharing.
  21. Some great shots there V-max, do you work the lab to any other game? Cheers
  22. Good to see Dawn, that big bloke will pass awesome genetics along.
  23. This is a pic of Major's son Ben and his half sister Ruby out of a different mother swinging on an kilo boar caught in wattle regrowth, this pig just did not want to give up, he went to the ground after this photo was taken and we had all started to relax and the buggar got up, it was on again. Major and the little bitches mother had caught a sow and this boar was having a crack when these 2 dogs showed, needless to say he didn't get very far. Ruby was almost identical to her father in looks and drive. As can be seen, with us blokes, is when the first hunter arrives on the seen, they take con
  24. Stabs don't know if he will measure up, but you never know, I swear its the English Pointer in the Grandson that is the problem, and too much EBT, be nice to get a good BullxWolfy to put him over. Cheers Bowers1986, was a top working dog too.
