  1. Actually you can shoot them, they can be a real pain if you get lots on a duckpond coz they drown the ducklings. No sport though and no point unless they're causing a genuine problem.
  2. No fear of that! The problem is getting it attached to the draw lines with the bagging in the right place, putting it up was fine til i twisted it all up Next practice session on saturday! Thanks
  3. Right, after what was possibly the most frustrating afternoon ever i think its untangled. Not a promising start to my longnetting career. However, i now know never, ever to do that again!!!
  4. Thats a bonus! Now does anyone have any tricks to untangle it once its got horribly twisted? Being the moron that i am, i have set up half of it but as i went along the net i had to untwist it - this rather unsuprisingly has resulted in the middle building up into massive snarl up. is there any other way than forcing the twist all the way to the end? My generous bagging is on either side of the mess and is making it a nghtmare to untwist. HELP!!!
  5. Ok, i bought a 50yd net but the drawcords are 90+yds the the netting is twice as long again. is this normal or have i been sent a longer net?
  6. People on here dont half enjoy handing out the abuse Guy asks a genuine question and gets told hes talking out of his arse, friendly that. We get a lot of feral/wild ferrets on the downs. Left there, i assume by people too lazy to dig, over the years. i have had mixed results from them, some tame up nicely and others never do. i wonder if its the lost ones that can be tamed and the feral born ones that are hard? No way of knowing really though
  7. Tyla, Dont put purse net rings on the ends of your net or stakes. You should have a knot formed through your last selvedge mesh on the end of your net, on the bottom and top line.Undo this knot, which should be a double overhand knot. Pull the line through so you have approx 4ft of loose line, top and bottom, Both ends of your net. Re tie selvedge knot. Then pass top line through the circle in your end pin, then tie this line to the other line, this enables the end pin to find its own centre on the lines. So looking at your net at the end pin section when set, the bottom line will run parallel
  8. So it would be a bad idea to attach it anywhere? Sorry to keep on but i want to get it right in my head as i have a day off tomorrow and i want to do a few practice sets so all advice greatfully rec eived
  9. Net ends, well I used to put them on a ring, then thought , why have the last six feet of net at both ends not working. Now I tie a knot , actually a double knot in my top and bottom bands and thread a piece of slip cord the same as the bands through the end mesh and make it the same length as the setting height, though it's not critical. I tie it to the bands between the previously tied knots this stops it moving. The two end pegs are then at the end of the net and you've no net tapering down to nowt. Sounds reasonable, thanks. What about fixing the net to the top and bottom lines?
  10. Still interested in pics if pups still available.
  11. The net has arrived, it looks good to me and im chuffed. What do i co next, how do the ends go? Do you put rings on the end like a purse net or attach to a stake? Also any tips on putting into the bag and laying out without all the bagging ending up at one end? Do you attach the net to top and bottom lines at interval, if so what interval? Thanks in advance
  12. Fair comment guys, i have the hazel cut and drying but want to use the net asap (impatient me ) i will try both and see what works for me. im not using the standard fence stakes with all the tangly bits but the ones used for poultry nets, they are smooth and look identical to the poles sold by magnum. Good to hear someone else is getting on with them
  13. Theres one for sale in the buy, sell, swap area, looks nice. i modded my Cooey .410 with a huge airgun silencer. Real quiet with 2" cartrdges but hard to aim and looks comedy - rabbits dont care though
  14. My mate, whos a sheep farmer, broke his staff to sheep by penning her up with a couple of rams. Seems to have worked but apparently she got a hiding in the process, not sure i'd try it with my dog.
  15. Your permission aint that bad then, well done
  16. Just ordered the electric netting posts, they look exactly the same as the ones sold by magnum traps but half the price. i plan to use it at the weekend so will put some pics up. Thanks for all the input
  17. Quality gun mate, i love .20 cal! Happy hunting!
  18. My pup retrieves well to hand with anything but rabbits, they get a victory parade round the field while i stand there calling her and looking a tw*t. im hoping its just excitement as shes only young but if anyone has any good ideas please fire away!
  19. Clulite all the way, had mine over 10 yrs and its done some graft and never had a prob beyond changng bulbs and once the battery but that was my fault Mine dosent have the ciggy socket but a jack plug like on a mcrophone - works a treat
  20. i just ordered on off the bay and the guy was sound, his standard nets have 50% bag but for a little extra cash he sorted me out with 100% bag and a diff coloured bottom line. His ebay name is ashmay708, get in touch with him and tell him i sent you (maybe get a discount next time ) The net should arrive on weds so i'll be able to tell you whats its like too.
  21. Thanks guys, its a traditional type 50 yd. Was thinkng of setting steel tent pegs in the bottom of the bamboo so they go into the ground easy. i reckon the electric netting posts would be better, they're dearer but i spose you get what you pay for. What length should they be?
  22. Just ordered my first net. What do you experienced people think are the best stakes? i was thinking of the poles out of an electric netting fence as a light weight alternative to hazel or maybe bamboo. Any advice appreciated, thanks
  23. First, get insured (not really necessary for ferreting but the land owners like it), if you already have any permisson get a written reference and then go and see landowners. Remember not just farmers own land, in my experience its easier to get livery yards or other horsey people to agree in the begining and then use them as references for bigger landowners. Once you have got it you have to keep it. That means being helpful and NOT taking the p*ss. Respect the stock and boundaries, close gates, always call before going etc. Remember its not yours, you cant give other people permission and
  24. is this event breed specific or open to any breed? Are you north or south of gatwck?
