  1. it works in spring when they are paired up and territorial
  2. CO CHISE - it was a great idea, I've barely used the guns since I got the dogs and I'd forgotten how much fun it is! Jack - hes a rescue of unknown breeding and for a while i thought i'd made a mistake getting him. I think he's borderxlakey with something else in there somewhere. He'd never been off lead or out of town when we got him in february at 7 months. Didnt know his name and had never even seen a stream! He now bushes ok, gets on with the lurchers, retrieves (most of the time)even from water and seems to be able to flush to the gun! I have to say though that he has regularly drives
  3. CO CHiSE's recent thread inspired me to get the shotgun out, for the first time this year, and have a walk round some permission with a mate. i took my bushing terrier and he did a cracking job, it wasnt til later i realised he'd never been around shotguns before! i really enjoyed it and will have to have another go soon!
  4. if it does the job for you then who cares what anyone else thinks of it? Just enjoy the dog and get the best you can out of him
  5. Looks tome like hes not here to post but to pull (and nick photos), seems to have collected all the girls on his friend list!
  6. Very nice, similar to our russellxwhippet forgot to add the pic
  7. She now seems sound, i dont know whats going on
  8. She is not lame today, maybe she was just stiff an i jumped the gun? Either wat shesback to leadwalksagain til i have a better iea of whats going on. kiz - apologies for being sarky, i wasnt in the best frame of mind last night. Having to retire her is exactly what im afraid of, seems a real shame as shes not even 3 yet. Thats why i want to explore all available avenues first. She has had long rest periods before but maybe not long enough. im not expert and have been going on what the vets said up to now and nowe trying the trainer as the vets are stuck. Luckily shes insured so the cost i
  9. Thanks mate. To be honest im not that bothered about the cost, within reason, i just want to get her working. Shes my first lurcher and we've kind of learnt together so im pretty attached to her and the times when she not lame she shows lots of potential. im just worried that she is missing out on alot of experience and even more worried that she wont ever be properly fit. Any more advice? Take her to the vet Fizz - Cost over a grand at the vet so far, and they suggested i find a trainer as they have more experience with muscle injuries, the guy i use specialises in the

  11. im gutted. My bitch has a recurring shoulder injury, happened when she was a pup and never seems to heal. She missed most of last season due a combination of that and ripping her stopper. A couple of months ago it happened again and i took her to a local greyhound trainer. She has been on lead walks and twice daily linament massage since then and a week ago went back to him to be assessed. He gave me the go ahead and i let her have a weeks free running then took her bushing yesterday. Shes limping again . The trainer said if this happens then the next step is ultrasound. i know noth

    Day 9

No killer hob in this warren Tyla, I know the ground well. Tried playin safe with a jill, but sometimes things just dont work out, or the jills get too good. Thats what i mean, the way different things work in different locations. i went out with no nets today, just the spade, locator and the lurchers. i've not done it like that in ages but this particular place was very open and lent itself to it. Had no luck, due to a combination of flooding and a near miss for the dogs, but enjoyed it alot.
  13. Well done mate, shame about the dig but the dogs sound like they did well

    Day 9

Thats exactly why i prefer bolting jills to killer hobs ! Thats pretty much the kind of dig we usually get on my ground, we just have trees roots to make it more fun! Had a nightmare last season, 7-8ft down through an old farm dump to get to a jill trapped in a cave in, not even a rabbit to make it worthwhile . its interesting how different approaches to acheive the same end develop based on local conditions
  15. Just had a look and there are three holes you could put your head through i think i will cut it and join it as it could take forever otherwise. its very strange, its never happened before and she often holds them in the net while im dealig with another or the ferrets. Could it be because the net was soaking, does that weaken them?
  16. We have one of each, my bitsa bitch is a speedster and when shes working she is very good BUT shes very fragile and has lost alot of time, and therefore experience, by being laid up. My wifes dog is a first cross JRTxwhippet, he is not as quick and but is bulletproof and will often catch in cover while lamping and is fearless hunting in woods. He is hard as nails and has had barely any injuries (except the unavoidable cuts and scrapes), because of this he gets out more and gets more experience. Which is the better dog? No idea, i do know that if i didnt have him to cover while shes been in
  17. Mart, check out the terrer forum. Golfnch2007 has a thread up about a mxed pack
  18. i've just started using a yellow filter as the bunnies seem oddly twitchy about white light this season. So far im quite impressed, dosent dull the beam very much and they dont seem as lamp shy. Either that or the last few nights have just been better weather
  19. Nice topic i love to hear about hunting in other parts of the world. There are a few members on here that have hounds, they put up good posts every now and then. Use the search function at the top and see what it comes up with? You have a nice little hound. How do you work them? Do they just run their quarry ddown using their nose and stamina or flush to the gun? i look forward to seeing a few more posts about him!
  20. .20 every time. im still shooting a 15 year old single shot FN19 purely because its in .20! i have bought, and subsequently sold, several expensive multi shots in both .22 and .177. They simply cannot compare with .20 in my opinion!
  21. Anyone got a number for the net loft? i dont seem to be able to get the email to send Cheers
  22. Thats a real shame. Hope he recovers well and can keep doing what he loves!
  23. Same in every section mate, dont worry about it. im much more into the dogs too but shooting is a nice change every now and then! Sounds like a bloody good day out to me, well done!
