Richie, I've recently bought a cobra merlin with a 90mw laser illuminator from Geoffrey at night vision supplies Ltd. I payed the new price of £485 which I don't think he has updated on his website yet. I've only been out with it a couple of times so far, once around the field which borders my garden and once ratting at a local farm. Around the back field I got a couple of rabbits the first at 35 yards stone dead, the second was a miss first time but you can see where the pellet hits with the infra red reflecting back off it, so up a few inches and the second shot was a good one .

Got to agree with Ian on the BF Goodrich's. They last for ages and are pretty good off road. Try mytyres.co.uk

Anyone know of anywhere I can get a .25 cal barrel for a mark 1 rapid 7? I've looked at AWT and theoben's site but can only see .177/.20/.22 available Thinking of it I'd need a .25 magazine and pellet probe also to change calibre, might be getting too expensive now I'm after .25 for that little bit more stopping power for rat shooting, but it might be cheaper to buy a seperate gun already in .25 rather than change the calibre of the rapid? Does anyone know where to get barrel/magazine and pellet pusher and what they cost? Cheers in advance Mike

Good video for your first one

I am with basc at the moment, but it's about to run out. Not sure whether to renew with them (£59) or whether to try a different place eg. sasc for less than half the price. I'm not bothered about recieving the quarterly magazines just the insurance and possibly legal cover

As above I'm after a 12 shot magazine in .22cal for my mk1 theoben rapid 7. I'm down to only one 7 shot one at the moment which is a pain in the rear to keep reloading in the dark. Cash waiting, PM me if you have one to sell, thanks mike

Too right they are £299 here Get 'em while you can at LIDL's price

I'm after a harris 9-13" swivel bipod for my rapid. I'll try and get a bottle clamp as well simply so I don't have to drill the stock. Two questions 1. Where's the cheapest place to buy one from? I'm thinking USA exchange rate is good 2. What's the difference with the notched legs between the S and the SLM (I think)? Which one's best? I suppose that's three questions really

Rimfire's are cheaper than a lot of todays air rifles. They shoot flatter for longer distances and without the recoil of a springer or the need to keep filling up a pcp. For small vermin outdoors get a rimfire, for small vermin in barns or out to about 30 yards get an air rifle

Matt the Rat - Don't get me wrong nothing deserves to die a slow death, not even a rat. I'm not saying it's acceptable to wound them, just asking if the wounds heal or not. The ones where the bodies were not recovered had been shot and dropped in between pallets or behind big straw bales etc. Although some bodies were found the next day, some half eaten by other rats or possibly cats (which don't seem to be doing much rat catching) Target practice isn't needed, the problem is shooting them on the move with an air rifle aint the easiest thing Donky7 - We were using an old clulite with

Shot a squirrel earlier and it fell under some bushes, so I had to use the gundog to retrieve it

Your right there ditch the farmer isn't using any poison AT ALL His excuse is that he has a barn owl using one of his barns. The place has got shit loads of rats about (no surprise). We're going again soon with a NV scope on the air rifle The trouble was with a lamp the feckers bolted and were difficult to shoot on the move with a scope, so off came the scope and we went back to the old fashioned way with open sights. Still hard to shoot on the move though. Don't know whether a 410 would be better on the job or whether it would do too much damage

Are these any use?

I went ratting with a mate of mine on Thursday night at a local farm. There was a lot about as this farm has pigs, cows and at this time of year turkeys, so plenty of different food available. Using a lamp and air rifle we thinned a few out. However some were hit and their bodies not recovered. Am I right in thinking that if a rat is hit it will bleed to death as their blood doesn't clot? Cheers Mike

It is a bit like that. This site is much better, on bbs you can't post videos or images of hunting, no avatars or photo's etc. All they are is a load of paper punchers

What about a call Jay  I caught one today using eggs and a nest. Are they any use as call birds for maggies or other jay's or is it best to just shoot it and keep trying for a maggie? Mike -

Cheers for the input lads. I will try it with a nest and eggs and broken shells (and a bit of patience). I have made a nest out of dead grass moulded into a circle as I don't have any hay or straw but it should do the trick I thought I'd cured the maggie situation earlier on but it would seem otherwise. I can get another call bird in early spring time, as I did earlier this year, but there are three magies doing the rounds all of a sudden. I'll let you know how I get on with it, Mike. -
Good post Paid, should be pinned on the top of the board Edited to say it is now

Just wandering if anybody has caught there own magpie call bird. I'm talking of the first one in your empty larsen trap using mirrors, decoys and dead rabbits etc. If so how the feck did you do it I normally get one dropped off by a mate who is a keeper but not till early spring time. Before I got one I tried a dead rabbit cut open, eggs in and around the trap with an old nest thrown in the bottom, and a mirror at the bottom of the traping compartments. But no luck When I got a call bird in the trap within an hour two maggies were caught . But before that weeks of baiting wit
