  3. i did a poll on best fox calibre. Heres the link- http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...amp;hl=poll+fox It makes a good read and there is some excellent replies.
  4. Anyone know whether its ok to gut rabbit roadside? I usually just quickly paunch them in the field, but ive got a couple of spots where this cant be done ( large houses). Ive been there lately a couple of times and have stopped on a lonely road ( north yorks moors to be exact) and just gutted them roadside and drove off. Its only guts and not littering imo, but last time i had double figures to do and a car drove past with some woman staring daggers at me. Where do i stand? is it ok to continue doing this legally ( not ethically)? . Im not mad keen on gutting at home with the bins getting e
  5. Agreed. I have great fun ferreting to a .410. Its not the most productive way of getting rabbit numbers down but, by christ, its good sport!!
  6. Ive decided that because of the fact im inundated with rabbits im going to have it twice a week, a different dish each time. Now im not the type to read recipe books and every time i do, as soon as someone mentions creme fraiche or something i just put it down, i dont know what the stuff is or where to buy it. ive done stews and casseroles and they are ok , but im not mad keen on rabbit to be honest, so ive decided to go for easy stuff to do for a while -JARS!! Hopefully it will inspire others who like the shooting side but not so keen on eating their kill. First idea was Rabbit tika
  7. 35 yards with a .410 is good shooting mate imo. Well done
  8. Very funny. Dont kno whether your taking the pi*s or not! You can get long poles , roosting poles will do. poke the dreys out from the floor!
  9. For sport you can shoot the dreys with a shotty or get someone to poke the dreys and shoot the emerging squirrels. Make sure there are no young left in the drey though. Air rifles can bag a decent number, but make sure its a decent one as they are pretty tough critters. like someone said, pre baiting can reap rewards- a handful of monkey nuts in a clearing every day can get them into a pattern for you to exploit. Dont know where you are exactly but if there are reds in your area forget about wandering willy-nilly with shotgun in hand blasting away at any drey!!
  10. Cheers guys. There doesnt seem to be much in it between the .17 hmr and the .223, SO, because the .223 was neck and neck nigh-on with the 22-250 on my last question regarding fox it looks like the .223 is the logical choice. Its good for rabbit up to a couple of hundred yards but will mess them up on body shots ( very similar to the 17 ) and it seems to be the majoritys bread and butter foxing calibre. watch this space!
  11. A neighbours 2 guineau pigs esgaped and were living quite happily for a whole year in our back gardens. They were both female so "someone" decided to buy a couple of males and see what happened. They got on ok it seemed but then dissapeared for a few months. I thought a cat had killed them but my daughters friend was walking up to see her and she aid that something was in the road down the street. I went down and lo and behold it was one of the guinea pigs BUT one of its eyes was missing and there was maggots in its place so i humanely killed it. Never found out about the other 3 but , becaus

    Knife

ive got a remington knife (i think) and its a great little knife, but i always have an opinel number 7 on me .
  13. Theres no difference mate. I set mouse traps at a house last friday and had caught 1 mouse within an hour using peanut butter ( smooth!!!!) and 7 by the next morning. ( 9 by monday if your interested)
  14. Ive also got the cz style. Cant fault it whatsoever and can honestly say that i wouldnt ever get rid.
  15. I did a poll just before christmas with the aim of buying a gun in this spring specifically for fox. Ive had to put that to one side at the moment as im up to my ears in rabbits, literally!. Im doing a decent job with the .22 rimfire and am dropping rabbits up to a respectable 100 yards ( im an amateur remember before you say i should be hitting em further) but think i will need to up the ante and get a new rifle that is designed to drop them at the 100-200 yard mark. My mate has a .17 and says its the dogs gonads but unless its a head shot the rabbit is ruined. Im fine with that, so would/
  16. CBW, im with you on this one. Ive been using eley subs since i got my rimmy and have never had a misfire. About 2 weeks ago i got a box of remingtons and had 2 misfires!!!!! Ive since gone back to eleys and havent had one misfire. Im 100% certain the remington ammo was at fault.
  17. I pay £400 for public liability just for jobs (bradshaw = bennet) but there is cheaper. Working at heights will cost you a good bit extra. The harris will be 4 figures to insure against the public , the gun i dont know- doing jobs for free would be covered by basc im guessing. Like its been said, make sure you know what your doing- some gulls are protected.. Make sure you have correct paperwork. You will need safety data sheets for just about everything, risk assessments on jobs etc etc. Not trying to put you off but it costs a lot and you NEED to make sure your above board in case it go
  18. What are you wanting to swap for? give me a clue as im interested
  19. It was roasting wasnt it. The boy got sunburnt.
  20. went today. It was ok. Was surprisingly impressed with the pony races. Got a new filleting knife and a new big game bag, was going to buy some pigeon decoy stuff but wasnt impressed with the sellers- I like to be pampered but thought a few of the sellers wernt interested. Tried a kangaroo burger and thought it was feckin awful, too strong a meat that left an aftertaste.

    seagulls

Birdproofing is the obvious place to start, Those spikes are pretty effective. Finding the nests and removing the eggs or oiling them is also very effective. Flying birds of prey also "upsets the applecart". Ive found that red-tailed buzzards are particularly good at putting the willies up gulls. If you let us know a little more about your particular situation it could help more. Im an old softie and as gulls mate for life and live for a very long time , shooting really is a last resort for me!
  22. Dave, through my experiences the electronic gadgets DONT work. I tried some and it didnt work one bit.
