  1. Thanks to all who have replied so far. I intend to use small straw bales, two wide, three high and two deep, 3/4" chip board in front to fasten targets on and how about as an extra, 3/4" plywood at the rear of the bales.
  2. Forrest Lodge Guns..........£5-6 a box of 25 410 cartridges is about the norm now.

    i was bored

Excellent work, very nice, is this craft called 'decoupage' or something similar
  4. I'm an experienced airgun and shotgun user but I'm a rimfire virgin I bought a new CZ Varmint on the 21st of December but have been too ill with this bird flu that's going round to use it. I plan to build a back stop out of straw bales, two deep, and use a piece of chipboard 3/4" thick to pin targets on to zero my scope, I'm going to zero at 70yds. My question is....do you think my plan for a back stop is suitable. I'm going to be zeroing on one of my permissions and will be aiming down 3/4 of a mile clear land and will be useing Winchester subs. As I say, I'm a virgin so please be gentle
  5. I know all about the bird flu mate, I've been down with it for a week now and no signs of it getting any better, and just to rub salt into my wounds I've started with the runs today, sphinkter is on fire, I'm useing baby wipes kept in the fridge to wipe one's bottom, ooohhhh! soooo soothing.
  6. Rubber stable mats might do the trick mate, very tough and easy to clean and not too expencive either. Do you know any horse owners, they might have some for you to look at.

    johny kingdom

It was well worth a look mate, I like JK, he's really passionate about wildlife without shoving it in your face. And what better place to be than in The Highlands, one of my favourite areas.
  8. I hate the noise these things make mate, bit like steel on glass. Oddly enough after a swift dose of high speed lead they seem to go quiet again I have to be carefull though cos my Mrs feeds the damn things
  9. That's cheered me up no end, damn funny. Thanks mate.
  10. Sadly Coppins no longer sell guns but still do good prices on cartridges. My side by side also came from Coppins, it's as rough as they come but I love it, and it's put plenty a meal on our table.
  11. Big welcome from Ratman2.......I'm a newbie myself and still finding my way round.
  12. I have an old LIG SbS 12bore that I use for rough shooting and sporting clays and I love the old thing, paid a massive £30 for it.
  13. I'm a LandRover man myself but the Frontera will do all you want from it despite what others say. As you say they are cheap and the parts are easy to get. The top of the fuel tank rots out near the sender unit, the back axles are prone to whining but keep going, the spare wheel carrier is a right pain in the back end. Avoid the diesel VM engine at all costs, good motor until they go wrong then it's a real wallet basher. The GM diesel may be a bit of a slug but they just keep on going.
  14. Even if it's too late to make sloe gin why not have a go at sloe wine, it's a lovely rose type wine and the alcohol content is enough to get you going after a couple of glasses. Collect the fruit (only firm) and bag it into freezer bags about a pound in each, then freeze it for at least a week, de-frost and follow any fruit wine recipe, or do a Google for sloe wine, use about 3lb sugar to each gallon. Be patient then enjoy.
  15. That is a true classic of modern times. My favourite verse is......... I said Charles, don't you ever crave To appear on the front of the Daily Mail Dressed in your Mother's bridal veil ? Oh ... And so, I checked all the registered historical facts And I was shocked into shame to discover How I'm the 18th pale descendant Of some old queen or other
  16. BASC for me, expensive maybe but very good.
  17. I've just bought myself a CZ Varmint .22 for Christmas (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ) It is a superb gun and how they can be made for such little money is beyond me. As for foxes, a mate of mine regularly drops them with the same type of gun at up to 100yds, yes I know the concensus of opinion is not to use .22 rimfire for foxes but I've witnessed several shots by my mate and not one runner. I strongly believe it's down to shooting skill.
  18. and too much central heating, houses sealed up, office work in artificial environments mean a lot of people, me not included, have no resistance to anything as they see any and all bugs and germs as bad scary things. Like most bad things in life I blame city folks for it You are right in what you say. I used to dread the twice yearly visit to the outlaws, nice people but their house was totally sealed, hot and stuffy. I could never stay in the house for more than half an hour and that included a visit to the toilet even if I did'nt need to go, I just used to open the window and gulp i
  19. Get out and do more shooting. That's it for me.
  20. South Wold Hunt gathers at Louth Cattle Market on Boxing Day and I recon there must have been more than five hundred suporters, maybe more. Excellent turn out.

  22. I'm into most stuff including G&R, Metalica, Magnum etc but today I've been listening to my collection of Barclay James Harvest, and at this moment I'm playing 'Welcome to the show'
