Ferret Being Too Rough With Young Ferret
Frolicking Ferrets replied to Micheala Robinson's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
there still about matey.. in various disguises and scattered all over the country... trouble is..with the trends leaning towards micro and all the other tiny lines of breeds over the last few years the good old long hobs have been pushed out of popularity..everyone wanted little tiny pocket size ferts.. One of my hobs is one of those long ones you are talking about, he has long face too. Any photo's? Not the best photo of him but definitely shows how long his face is unlike most hobs which now seem to have short fat faces. -

Ferret Being Too Rough With Young Ferret

Ferrets just play rough, as long as there's no blood (or stabbing), pee, poop or screaming (the most awful noise a ferret can make) everything is fine and you should just leave them to it. Though putting a nesting box with a hole big enough for only the smaller one to get into would be a good idea so she can get some peace from the rough play when she's had enough. With the deafness, it's a possibility but can't really be sure unless any other behaviours associated with being deaf are presented to such as tipping their head back when you pick them up, random vocalisation and defensively fl -
Counted today 9 and all look healthy cant se any runts so all looks wellThat's good and runts aren't noticeable until they're about 5-6 weeks old and with a litter that size, there likely either be 1 or 2 or just no runts at all.

Great set up you have there ? Looks great. You know the very top hutch with the pull out bedding tray, at a later date you may have to change it or put wood over the metal in the tray because over time, it'll become rusty.

That looks like a healthy litte looks as if there's 7-8 kits there.

How does the land you work effect your choices ? Some ferrets are better at working in different conditions compared to other ferrets, for example not every ferret will work wonders in a massive and deep warren but will be perfect for smaller ones. And if you're ferreting where digging is difficult and it's a big warren then you're more likely to use a ferret who doesn't kill often, if at all. If ferreting in an area where there's lots of shrubs and bushes then a lighter coloured ferret is more likely to be used due to it being easier to spot in the bushes. Isnt that more personality and co

Is 20 mins enough for a day? I was under the asumption youd have to handle them for a good hour Personally, I think more that 20 minutes is needed.

I had a rat in my shed earlier in the year so I let my bigger hob and one of my jills loose in there with it and well, it didn't last 30 seconds once the silver jill had gotten a hold of it. And I get what you mean with the rabbits breeding loads, I have seen very many, and a lot of hares too.

That's not good, quite a few people recently have had their ferrets stolen, I first noticed that ferrets were being stolen about a year ago when my friend informed me that two of his three ferrets had gone missing and started seeing missing and stolen ferret ads online....... Always a shame when others take something that isn't theirs............... I hope you get them back.

That is a fantastic housing set up ?

Nice little jill you have there ? From the look of her markings, she'll turn lighter in colour as she gets older.

Gus also has dark blue eyes like his mum Whisper.

"Two of my jills have blue eyes, my silver and a chocolate jills, though dark blue not the light blue that people are obsessed with at the moment, green eyed ferrets are another rave going on too, daft people breeding for designer colours and specific eye coloursWhen I bred my silver jill last year and she had kits of all sorts of colours, a daft person wanted a lot of specific things like this ad that is mentioned on the topic, and the daft sod turned out to be a time waster in the end, so it is a nightmare dealing with those types of people. It's very annoying with those types of time waster

"I think he's trying to eat me." Omg lol XD
-
I've fed mine pork plenty of times and they've been fine, never had any issues except that not all of my ferrets will eat it, they prefer other meats and even fish.

I was like that when I was younger, always confident with them from day dot then I got bitten badly when I was 12 but it didn't knock my confidence down much, just with the polecat hybrid that bit through 3 of my fingers and my right thumb all at once, was just more cautious with handling him mainly. My little sister is the same, though she's not fond of them gently nipping when playing but she'll get used to it soon enough.

Looks like he's smiling there!

As long as the ferret is healthy, the judges don't mind if the ferret is in season or not.Just pregnant, nursing jills and ill ferrets aren't allowed.
