Traditional wooden rabbit traps
Wolfdog91 replied to Wolfdog91's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Is simplicity always the best answer is my question?it always seems like a good deal but if we start dealing with waht alot of control trappers here call the 80/20 it becomes evident that just going with something because it's simple just plain isn't the best deal somtimes -
Yeeeep going over some trail can footage of on cages I'm working on and had one what was Tiggered but no catch. Figured some got caught and wiggled lout but nope Trap triggered with out him even touching the trigger some how... Weird ,guess I need to tweak the sensitivity lol
-
No kind of behavioral differences between the two you could take advantage of to exclude the possibility of catching one over the other more or less ? I'm sure great have to do something or be attracted to things that reds arnt ?? O and yeah I know the set you are talking about. Those are usually some pissed off home owner or kid who doesn't know better who saw a "survival" video on YouTube. It's a really good way to kill alot of bird honestly ??
-
You talking about the ones in front ? Well keep larger critters from sticking there heads in. A 120 will kill a squirrel and all but a raccoon or Large possum...weeellll. aslo help to exclude nosey dogs and the like if it's set on the ground

Had some left over wood from the rabbit trap and threw this together. Guess y'all would call it a tunnel. Was gonna use it on rats but my trail cams are showing I kill them all apparently so guess I'll have to wait for winter an see if the squirrels like it. Any of you guys mess with cubbies for squirrels alot ?

Traditional wooden rabbit traps
Wolfdog91 replied to Wolfdog91's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I will say though btw if I had to set 50-100 cages like I see you guys doing I'd definitely figure out how to make white work because we'll.....that's just common sense I feel ?? -
Traditional wooden rabbit traps
Wolfdog91 replied to Wolfdog91's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Well I appreciate that ? these are just first and made of shitty lumber so the next ones should be much better. Actually have someone asking if I can build them some a armadillo traps but I'm definitely gonna read this design because Christ these are crazy even if you only need one or two But I'm getting off track lol. Honestly what I curious about is how many rabbits y'all miss over there. Asked around apparently putting trail cams on traps is kinda frowned on over there for some reason. But anyway due to the just pure crazy populations you guys have what I'm curious about i -
Traditional wooden rabbit traps
Wolfdog91 replied to Wolfdog91's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I'd actually love to see some put a wooden trap side by side with a wire one or one with two doors besides one with a single door and put trap cam on them. Would love to see that footage. -

Traditional wooden rabbit traps
Wolfdog91 replied to Wolfdog91's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Yeah that was my post . Those traps are a favorite for dog runners live catching rabbits for dog training. I honestly think you guys think I'm trying to tell y'all that "our way* is better or something, which I'm not. I'm simply showing what we use and saying ,over here these are the best method for our animals. Not trying to start an international pissing match ....never have these situations with trappers from other place though I noticed..... Especially the Aussies and kiwis fascinating conversations with does boys but I digress. And we are dealing with "different animals" . Yes b -
Got bored lately and had the desire to build some traditional wooden rabbit traps ( also called gums). Traps like these are close to the same design that trapper over here have been using for the last 150 or so years. Most older trappers I talk to talked about how building and using these was their first step into trapping. And according to just about every ADC guy I've talk to wooden traps like these just plain out catch any other method. Something about them being made of wood and dark or something. That and apparently one you catch a few you don't even need to bait them. The wood just soaks

Boy that's a old one from over here. You know you ask most trappers here in there 50's what got them started alot of them will say these fur fish and game vids. I actually think I have a few of these on VHS in my collection
-
Had a feeling you two would have had experiences like that from your comments. Thank you
-
I'm just curious, seriously, how many of you have went after animal that could kill you?
-
Yes see them or their icon.. you know like see them IRL , btw man I'm one like 12 different forums not just this one and seems every one has two or three guys that just have to pop into everything and be negative . Like ok they make a post where they wanna just whine complain or just vent some frustration, that's completely fine and understandable. They hop into a post that's obviously somewhere they can be negative and it's cool , fine whatever that's understandable. Hell I see those posts I avoid them like the plauge for the most part now days just because it's nothing I wanna listen too. Ye

Your shooting pretty wide from what I'm actually talking about

More and more I'm understanding what the British people my age I talk to mean when they tell m stuff ....

Well first of your trying to compare canned hunting to actually hunting which are two completely separate things. And are you trying to say all big game hunts are canned ? If so .....um....what ? Yeah would hope anyone with enough brain cells to rub together to blink can look at at some rich prick having a canned hunt and have the morals to understand "Hay ! That's not really hunting...or ethical". Not even sure why true outdoors men would even need to discuss that honestly. But if your trying to say every trophy or big predator hunt is canned then that level of ignorance is just..... pai

You know I gotta say , and this isn't me trying to take a stab at y'all, but I used to love reading stories from the old big game hunters and the like from Britain, always admired how they thought about animals and hunting... Seemed to be so much more to it for them instead of something as simple as food fun or pest control, can't tell you how much that impacted me when it came to viewing hunting and similar... Odd to see that all but gone now days in so many Brits..... I will say though it's alive and well in aom if you but never seen a Brit that has it talk about it around other Brits. Had m

Anyone here happen to come over here and do some hunting or fishing? Got a few questions for ya.

Well the fact hyenas aren't really much more then a pest species in most of Africa....you know what never mind. You win wilf ole boy... Boy o boy I see more and more why y'all are in the mess y'all are in over there as outdoorsmen.....

I was hoping you where honestly I was ? Read the last paragraph man it pretty obvious this wasn't just for fun. These things can be extremely destructive to live stock. Also you ever consider that name is an honorific deal ? Super common here for people to name special animals their after or trophy class animals like that. Most mounts you'll see here with any significance will have a brass plate with that animals nickname where it was harvested time and possibly a story. It's actually seen as distasteful in alot of circles to just take a difficult animal without giving it some form of n

Shooting some random half starved critter over a bait pile and shooting something that you have to track and pattern for a few weeks to the point your borderlined obsessed is two completely different things imo. It's like me and hog hunting. Any yahoo can sit in a stand and shoot a random hog. Now put cam cameras out pick that one mature male it's a different game all together. Last one I baited it took me two months to get his schedule down. He'd only use certain trails at certain times and only eat for so long.

...... Wilf... please tell me your just joking ?? 98% sure I can smell the sarcasm but I always have to ask what it come to you brits
