I hope he gets fit and well soon. I have found that the dogs that are given a second chance in life, usually work really hard for their new owner. They always seem to look at you like they really are thankful. I bet you he will turn into a decent worker.

I have been breeding terriers for 40 years and now decided to breed the ultimate terrier, and resurrect the breed from the dead.
200 years ago everyone had one for these dogs in their home - The Turnspit.
It had huge stamina and could work all day. It would deal with all the vermin on the farm as well.

lads, ye do realise that this is what this breed has been bred to do? hunt, find, chase and hold at bay, the same they do to bears, lynx, and moose. The breed has been doing this for centuries.

The vets can treat the mange. You will need a vet to ascertain whether it is sarcoptic or demodectic mange. Some dogs that have had a bad life and diet, loose immunity and get demodectic mange. Wash him up and treat him for fleas and worms. Use something quality like Frontline, and Drontal Plus. Feed him a normal healthy diet. Dont over feed. Plenty of rest in a nice warm quiet bed.
