Pound For Pound Whats Your Hardest Fighting Fish ?

Recommended Posts

Must admit I was really impressed by the fight of the lowly mackerel. Me and younger brother were out in a small boat off Selsey Bill after a few flatty's using light freshwater tackle. I put on a spinner and hooked something first chuck, told my brother I think I've hooked a bass by the way it fought, bloody great mackerel must have gone over 2 1/2 lbs. Had about 10 of them, fantastic fighters, bit different to feathering with heavy sea gear. Great bit of fun.

It's alright for you rich boys going out foreign after monsters but on a local level a Tench on light tackle will do me just fine.

always enjoyed fishing for tench on the float early mornings.trotting for grayling and chub.a good double figure barbel are hard to beat and carp on the barbel rods with a controller float and dog biscuits.attachicon.gifDSC00201.JPGattachicon.gifBlackhearts Dogs 012_001.jpgatb dc

The Chub is starting to sneak it's way around Ireland and hopefully I'll hook one some day but the Barbel sounds like the Pit Bull for our kind of rivers but I can never see us having them over here. The Salmon anglers will ensure that.

My young lads first salmon gave a good account of it self

I have had and lost 3 very very big fish on over the years ....hard to tell how big this was but a t a guess over 30 ....made the reel scream for over 30 mins then snapped me

For me a big salmon on a single hander in hard water you cant beat it

This goin on my bucket list

pound for pound fight , its never easy as to gauge , theres a heap of variables, hauling on river fish always makes life difficult with the fast flow etc , bonefish on a 2ft deep flat pound for pound are immense , but in deep water not the same fight quality , , burst speed comes into play , i think bones and cudas rattle off at 30mph plus,,,,, tench pike carp and cats speed off at 7 mph which gives impression of a dogged fight which takes a while to subdue , mackeral on light fly tackle are prob one of my faves along with ladyfish, and bones , like a 5lb bone on a calm flat will pull your 10lb line to the limit , mullet are great fun on fly but dont compare to bones rest assured, jacks snapper are huge fighters on level wt line rod , wahoo are speedsters my pal got this one last week of 73lb which took 350yrds off the spool 1st run , on stand up and ave it tackle , for me its tuna , on fly a few 200yrd runs off from a 8lb tuna on 12lb line makes you wonder if a 40lb monster is tugging on it IMG_6610_zpsdrm3vvvp.jpg
