Very true Tiercel...   I have always faught shy of educating folk about any form of trapping,.more so, the activities that earn't my wages. Many times, I have been asked by reps and suchlike, to g

As i understand it, prototypes should be available within weeks. As for production, i suppose that all depends on if the prototypes need any alterations done and everyone is happy with them.   The

Very interesting OTC

The flatpack side by side with the original photo caught my eye.

Matt, what i was saying the other day about the difference in the gap between the springs, that photo really tells the story.

The gap on the original is far wider, now i am not saying for definate, but i would take an educated guess that the tension on the spring when fired is much more than on the flat pack one.

The trapman one and the Tinsley are more in keeping in this respect.

Superb post... :clapper:

OTC.....a wee bit of advice...given in friendship..

I once had a good old pal,...he was an authority on the Working Bedlington Terrier...

His name was George Newcombe..

For many years we corresponded, and eventually met up and shared our enthusiasm for this old style terrier type.

I was constantly pushing him to put a book together,..alas, he never did,..and many others went on to use his hard won knowledge and vision, in their own manuals....SO,...please don't let there be any regrets...

I have no specialised knowledge,.I am just a Moucher...but you have served your time and should finish things...

Do try and get a book sorted,...there are many out there, that will offer you assistance,.so please go for it...

All the best, Phil.

Yes, I think you're right about that Paul. And as you say, that Tinsley looks pretty good

The thing is, tightening down those spring retension wires, and thereby spreading the spring over the natural curve of the barrel (and creating more of a gap between the loops) is (I think) a fairly straightforward thing to solve and will require no re-tooling

For the purposes of flatpack going forward with a rethink, wouldnt it be a good idea to merge this thread with the other one?

Actually, no, I think it's better we keep this thread 'clean' for them to read. I'll send them a link later on today.

Barrel length is 6 inches (15cm) exactly, just under 2 1/2 inches (62mm) between the sides, and the measurement over the dome of the barrel - one side to the other is 4 1/2 inches (110mm)

Fantastic information, that confirms the dimensions we have for my (post war) trap, and another (pre war) trap we have access to

How, and why, the dimensions of the barrel have changed so much over the years is still a mystery....

Got to agree with every bit of that post. It would be a real shame if that book never came out

My mate went and got out bid on the box, he had a word with the guy who brought and said would you want to sell the mole trap he said take it, so he got genuine duffus for nothing,

So, the old ones stamped "duffus" are collectable?

Very interesting - Thanks.

When I got the Duffus (No Patent) trap I also was given two or three virtually identical traps, same size, weight and to my eye, design. One is stamped something like W142 or similar. I take it from the original post that Mr. Jolly also made traps for other companies? I'd bet mine are possibly from a business called Farmstar near Doncaster.
