Bootsha 1,306 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Share Posted April 6, 2013 put some onion sets in today, set up my pea frames ready, also put my peas to soak overnight and sewn them in single cell trays as suggested here, dug my spud trenches but not put anything in yet. Top is bone dry here, dusty almost, not frozen, but 2" down the soil is plenty wet enough. giving us milder weather coming in from monday on with a chance of rain, if that holds for a few days then the first and second earlies could be going in. All geared up here, just waiting on mother nature to shut the f***ing fridge door and leave the oven door slightly ajar lol. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Had leeks, lettuce, carrots growing indoors on the window sill, doing well, but had them outside during the day for the last few days, looks like am guna have to keep them inside another few days then put them out again Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Bootsha 1,306 Posted April 8, 2013 Report Share Posted April 8, 2013 well gents, mild here, giving rain on and off, any frost is only light stuff and after tonight dont seem to be much coming our way. My first and second crop earlies have gone in, 6" deep and soil well firmed on top of them, if the weather keeps up the main crops will be going in on the weekend. Got the drills ready for parsnip and beetroot. my beans are in pots in the man cave and so are 600 + pea's ready for the one row, the other 600 + will be sewn in 2-3 weeks. got my lines up ready for the peas, ordered pean etting off ebay, 10m x 2m meant to be, barely a meter wide ffs, my line is set at 1m, so i'm going to get some sileage netting off the bales up the farm to use, used it last year, perfect for the job, just burn the lot at the end of the season then.. I have a concrete yard but picked up a ladies back garden. 6 miles away though on a near vertical slope covered in brambles with a slab of rock under it but better than nothing Quote Link to post Share on other sites

TWOTWOTHREE 152 Posted April 9, 2013 Report Share Posted April 9, 2013 (edited) Hi I earth up / ridge up straight away on the spuds,its nice to have a lot of space,but its hell of a job to keep on top of,the soil is very good due to constant mucking and turning over,and hand weeding it takes about a week to get from one end to the other by hand with fork and bucket,I work together with my mate martin,he's retired so we sort of keep at it all the time,there's 4 allotments there and 3 behind the tunnels,i had 3 he had 4 so we joined forces a few years back,two have my poultry on it, http://i.imgur.com/Ina4b4C.jpg this is an old photo but its behind the tunnels and the gardens finish up at the big house, http://i.imgur.com/wJaQaOh.jpg Only reason we have so many is 20 years ago no one wanted them and you could have as many as U wanted not like now,its one per household,I guess we call it grandfather rights even though im only 35 lol,just ive been at it all my life,its a passion,its not something that csn handle a hour her and there we contribute something every day,and one day at a weekend, exept Sundays,i won't work,day of rest lol, Anyone wishing to help pop up there's lots to do,i like to put pictures up as i like to think people can get some ideas of how others do it,im always looking for tips too,i have a lot to learn even after all these years,im enjoying reading your posts,everyone is making the best of wat they have,keep it up,hope the weather doesn't spoil things again this year Atb Edited April 9, 2013 by TWOTWOTHREE 3 Quote Link to post Share on other sites
