Moll. 1,769 Posted March 3, 2012 Report Share Posted March 3, 2012 Appologies straight off for the photography, the conditions today were dreadfull, wet fog, rain and it was dark. Resulting in blurred photos (Need good light for action shots) and me missing loads through having to constantly dry the lens or having the camera under my jacket to keep dry. The photos may look like it was a good day but i had to lighten the few that came out ok-ish. Conditions.. Most of the 300 + i toook ended up looking like this.. Anyway. back to today. Another new addition, a lovely squidgy fat black ball of gorgeousness, only about 22wks old and out today for his socialisation. Ratting with a group of well behaved dogs is ideal for a pup, he gets used to all the frantic running about, new dogs, new people, new everything. Gorgeous George.. He had a lovely time annoying the pluck out of young Pepper, who on her 2nd ever day out and still very young was catching and killing her own rats today, i said in a previous thread she is the most confident, driven pup i have met when ratting. I think she is going to be a hell of a lass in her chosen profession when older. Life is such great fun when your a puppy Pepper... And not afraid to get stuck in with the bigs boys and girls now. And another first intriduction for Kim....all i can say is WOW, she is a stunning, stunning lass and doing very well at her chosen profession already. This rat was firmly attatched to her chin, and try as she might she could not get a grip of it for ages. Seemed like an eternity she ran around trying to shake it off, when she finally did, she made sure it was dead...at least 7 times And the old soldier, he is like part of the furniture now, a days ratting would not be complete without him. At 14yrs old he now mistakes rolling mud for rats, but his mark is still true, and he worked hard today. If he say's a rat is there, then a rat is definitely there! As is the norm now, lurchers are a godsend here, especially for bolters in the long dead cover Holding back to other to let Rosie the border perfect her technique. She marks, then digs to it, follows the scent in the tubes. And gets her well deserved reward... One proud Dad And of course a day out would not be complete without the useless sex pest whippet. Goooo on Boo, his first of................................................................... One He did chase and almost strike at a few more till they turned around to face him And the rest... End of the day shot, 64 rats, but there were at least 70 caught, unable to put them on the photo as Rude boy ate them! Not bad for 3hrs work 6 Quote Link to post

The photos don't really show just how much a a puppy he still is Hannah, your hands just sink into his fat squidgy body when you cuddle him, his body rolls from side to side when he walks Every single one of Peters terrier pups have been like this and all without exception have been the nicest natured terrier pups you could ever meet. Millet 4,497 Posted March 4, 2012 Report Share Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) It was a cracking mellow day once the fog and rain went away..i thought the dog's started of a little slow and hit and miss to start with but they soon got into there stride..and all of them done well at marking and killing some awkward rat's in that long cover..that little brown pup of pete's is coming on a treat and is doing well with them rat's now.. ...Rudie is also well and truely on the mend and when i was watching him yesterday he was like a fooking hover.. ..running full steam ahead with his nose about 1in of the ground and not many got away from him..but the most impresive of the day was when he straight lined that Partridge and caught it in level flight.. .. Cant really test the lungs properly till his fitness is back. Keepa.... hand on heart i can honestly say i have never known another dog like her. Her prey drive is out the roof, she feels nothing, and will not stop, even when her toes are just bloody stumps....nails long since worn away. Does not matter how often she is bitten, she never shy's or faulters as some dogs do when they have had enough. Not just saying this because she is my dog, but i have never met one as good as her on rats. If she says a rat is there, even though it is solid earth with no tunnels to be found anywhere, and very deep, there will be a rat there. Many a time we have thought there cant be one there, how much deeper can we go and gone to walk away, when one person will usually say, "I'll just dig a bit longer, she seems convinced" And she will be right. She is also a godsend for finding occupied sets, bit like a good ferreting dog. If she walks away, there are no rats at home, if she marks, you know there will be....saves wasted time digging to empty sets. When she is digging, and rats bolt out from under/over her, if there are still rats further in she will just concentrate on the job in hand...she just seems to know. And she is the sweetest natured bitch, never a cross word, never fights or grumbles, even when provoked beyond all boundaries by some dominant troublesome terriers, she just WANTS them rats regardless of what is going on around her She was a very lucky find Quote Link to post
