mac174 0
Hi shooting with a .222 at the moment very smooth accurate round. shooting foxes at mainly 150 yards any advantages with a .223 mac Quote Link to post
hiho 5
(slightly) more power, better choice of bullets Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
slightly more power neither here nor there, more bullet choice is the real plus side...... if you can hit it with the 222 then why change, unless you wnat to extend the range, Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Little or no difference on a Fox at 150 yards. .223 has a major advantage over bullet choice and availability. The .222 is slowly on the way out and ammo is getting steadily harder to find, more expensive and less choice. Not really a problem if you reload, if you don't then perhaps consider a .223. Charlie won't know what hit him either way!! Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
you really cant compare a .220 swift to a .223 or .222 its in another league its also expensive too run and it will burn the barrel out in no time the loads range from 60gr bullet going at 3600 fps to a 40gr bullet going in excess of 4300 fps wheres as the .223 runs at around 3200fps for a 55grainer not many rifles are chambered in 220 swift so he may also find it hard hard to find a gun that suits him liam Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
what about 220swift ?, it will out perform a 223. So will a 22-250, 243, 260, 270, etc, etc, and don't forget the .204, suggested by some as THE Fox calibre..but yet to prove itself long term!! Probably best to keep nearer to the original question or this could run away anywhere! Quote Link to post
lgray88 4
when i applied for my first CF i chose a 243 but the they would let me have that so i went for the .22-250 there plenty of guns chambered in it and ammo aint a problem, as for as the best all rounder goes id say a 243 , it will do anything from small varmints fox and deer. liam Quote Link to post

riohog 5,920
.222 for me it would be ive got one dont think i would change it now for any other 22 centre fire had it a while does the job nicely reload for it and like deker said at 150 if the bullet hits afox inthe head it wont know what calibre it is the choise for me athe time i bought it was based on its accuracy on the bench rest scene at the time Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Don't talk to me about 204 at the moment. 4 inch groups with the Howa and 40gr ammo at 100 yards. Am trying to negotiate a refund/exchange tomorrow as I want to shoot specifically the 40 grain stuff. Might have to make do with 32 but hopefully not. Quote Link to post

Have you tried 39 grain Sierra Blitzking, some advice here:- http://www.6mmbr.com/20Caliber.html Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
my mate was getting 1/2 to 1/4 inch at 100 with 40g in the ruger, he's changed to a sako 85 for the drop out magazine.... it won't look at the 40g very poor accuracy tried 39g straight to 1/2 inch, so the rifles are a tad picky about what suits them i thought 1g was neither here nor there... but seems it is......... Thats not to clever, i thought thats in the realms of a .22lr 4" at 100yrds on a still day. if you need help, read up Statuosary rights, i think there is something about being fit for purpose and that doesnt sound fit for purpose, and most companies resort to coughing up when the threat of court is wavered. Have you still got it or has it gone?? the .204 was designed with 32 in mind I understand but a 4" group with 40g is certainly not good!! Quote Link to post
