SNAP SHOT 194
i found nyself having to explain why i hunt and that it is cruel, over the christmas period and my main reply was this more or less which left them with a bitter aftertaste in their mouths...........i won............ THE HUNTING LIFE And so it begins, For most of us it's something that simply cannot be explained to the masses, Why do we do what we do? Often portrayed as cruel, Bloodthirsty, Violent, Mindless, Killing..... So here is a hunters perspective, I have for most of my short life been into fishing & shooting, Simply misunderstood by the modern world who think that most of their food should just arrive on the shelf of their local supermarket already wraped. Not many years ago we had our few chickens, veg patch, and the humble cow to provide for our every whim, Not forgeting the humble suppliers of our meat too, the rifle and the shotgun. More than just a hobbie but a passion i have never been happier than when out in the field be it wildfowel or stalking, even on the blank days. For it is when we know that the animal or bird in question which is going to fall will have had the best possible life and will provide a harty meal at the end, while we gain a greater understanding of both the fallen, and our human instinct, which is after all as hunter gatherer. I must say that when i took up shooting that i had no knowledge of the enviroment, species, breeding, nesting and just the plain cycle of all thing's nature related, However today that is truely a different story, For i have never been more enthrawled in nature as when i became a hunter, It give's you a perspective on the meaning of life, For many think that we simply love to kill, I say this is pure nonsence. For when we put the gear on, take the humble walk on the wild side we feel truely free. We strive for a humane dispatch whatever it is, be it the humble duck or the majestic deer, and we can truely say that we know were our food really comes from. We do not wish to wipe out every living thing nor have the inclination too, When out in the field simply surveying our surroundings we feel truely humbled by nature's bounty. So all i ask is that you respect my right to live and to life, And i'll respect yours. see you on the outside...... SNAP SHOT.

SportingShooter 0
That has it about covered Snappy. I do believe that you have to be of a certain mind to be able to take quarry any sort. But that is not unique. You could say the same of someone in the City, not every person wants to bury their head in figures, some thrive on it. I have the same views as Hyp, if I am asked why I kill whatever I kill, my first Question to them is "Are you a vegetarian then?" When the near always answer of "No" comes back, I point out to them that it is Hypocritical of you to question my methods, when you are happy for Animals to be killed in a Slaughterhouse. I also point out to them, in particular when relating to birds, "How much of a chance has the Chicken at a slaughterhouse got of escape compared to the Pheasant that I have just shot?" Tallyho 181
we hunt round here because the fox's and rabbits are a pain in the ass for the farmers. farmers want them gone so we try and get rid.
will.f11 24
Alot of people have asked me how I can easlily kill 40 + rabbits in a day without having a conscience. I dont know how its just I dont have to think when I do it. I remember the first thing I ever killed was a crow on my windowsill when I was about 4-5 i sneaked out my dads airgun, and somehow managed to hit it. But i suppose we must just have harder minds than others

Doglost Co-Ordinator 4
I dont hunt but at the end of the day if you eat meat how do you have the right to disagree with what you do?? I have friends who've had chickens savaged by foxes, mink. Rabbits eat crops. We've hunted since time began, before the antis & the do gooders. Sod em, if they dont like it - lump it- became vegiterian, dont wear leather -then critisise. Poor foxes- wouldnt be saying that if they'd a pen full of chickens with there heads missing. zigzag dan 784
a woman in the pub decided to try and start a row with me once over the fact we were disscussing the days terrier work we had done ; i let her carry on then asked her if she fancied having to tiptoe round an earth under her garden shed to hang the washing out ? after abit of stuttering she said no and went and sat quietly in the corner ;as they say ignorance is bliss !
