It’s not popular cos it’s pure shite haha there’s a reason we don’t farm rabbits instead of lamb haha iv never understood why folk eat it, cos they certainly don’t like it, an I get it it’s free, but

total rubishmate if you like them so much get a pet

Rabbit tastes like sht all year round over here, lol.

I once made a big mistake on a piece of land that no one had been allowed to shoot over for years. It was the best bit of rabbiting ground in the county. When the farm eventually changed hands and was split up I was at the auction and got the owners details and their permissions within a few days. I was the only person given permission

I shot probably 20 a day for the 1st few months, shooting on average 6 evenings a week. This was spring. The mistake I made was "saving a few" for later. They decimated all the crop fields of the farmer who bought the main farm and after defra, or whatever the relevant authority was, were called in he allowed all and sundry on.

Shoot as many as you can easily shoot, when it gets harder ease off :gunsmilie:

I've hunted in New Mexico for over 30 years. My uncle said it's ok to hunt rabbits any time but should only eat rabbits in months ending in R. He said eating them in summer could make you sick plus the meat tasted bad in the the summer. We always hunted deer in November n if we had a chance to take a rabbit we ate it that nite. I miss my uncle Manny Aguilar n my cousin Manny Jr. some of the best memories of my life.

Respectfully

Gilbert Aguilar

Interesting AW. Is that your personal taste, I've never found rabbit that nice apart from being free meat, but many did, and some still do in the British Isles before we became islands of hypocritical animal lovers ( cannot eat a lovely bunny but don't give a damn about how the cheap pig and poultry products are produced). My question/interest, do your rabbits taste like shit because of the fauna that they eat in your country?

We ate a lot of rabbit when I was young and I just got sick of it I think. My old uncle used to cook it up different ways and I liked it. The only way I can eat it now is boiled in chicken stock, then crumbed and fried. Probably a lot better for you than the farmed meat but nah. What I've seen on vids from over your way is that the rabbits look fatter/healthier where a lot of ours look like small hares in build, lean and tough. I still think Aussie rabbits are faster (bit hard to prove) almost like a sub species of the European ones. No I think they taste horrible on pasture, bush or desert feed, lol. I've tried farmed rabbit which tasted worse than the wild caught ones to me.

Not ate rabbit for years, I used to as it was free, and I thought I 'should' seeing that I'd killed it, but tbh I've never really liked the meat, same with hare.

I've eaten them in just about every month too, and they all tasted the same... Piss poor, give me venison or game birds anyday!

Rabbits are giveaways to those that want em, other than that, dog and ferret food.

Same here I’m not a great fan just the smell puts me off I’ve given loads away and when I had my terrier she got her fair share, I asked the farmer if he wanted any or he new anyone not interested, it’s just not a popular meat, I always say to my Mrs if there was a war or a shortage of meat I’d have queue round the block trying to get it off of me.

Couldn’t agree more it’s manc like you say I’d trade with game birds or venison any day of the week.
