what would you do??

Recommended Posts

A number of months ago i made a custom nessmuk hunting knife for a forum member,it was top quality workmanship.

now as every knife owner that i know knows,a blade needs looking after whether carbon steel or stainless, ofter using and before putting away its common sense to dry the blade and wipe over with a touch dry oiled rag.

his chap obviously hasnt and now wants a refund! now every knife maker i know would suggest that the customer bugger off ,what do you think?

I know nothing about making knives fish, but do the blades differ from shop bought ones?. I have one that I use for gutting, simple lock knife, gets covered in blood and fur, may get a quick wash under the tap once home, but not dried off, looks as good as the day I bought it, never shows rust spots, and dont get wiped over with an oily rag

so are they finished differently

tell you what,as clearly youve not oiled the blade or looked after it in any way ille put it to the forummembers as to what i should do,personally ide say bugger off ,if you cant look after a grownups knife get a toy one! but lets see what the forum think.

To FishFish,

I sent you the picture of the knife you sold me I already see one dick head saying feck him off well fishfish you really have took the piss out of me and well done because good job your good at your job because I like to think I am

But you really did me over then trying to blame me for the shit you sold me yes you have I am sure made some excellent knives that I so before I bought from you but this is not one of them and trying to get backup from the hunting forum when the problem is yours not any one else as you had good money out of me no one else and I thing I had the right to complain .

anymore F**king wise cracks dont come my way as I am not one who goes backward .

I will if in the next week do not get a proper reply put the knife up to auction and what ever it makes will put in hunting sites kitty I will get some good pictures also of the sheath which did not need oil but you will see what I mean about poor craftsmanship if I am just going to get slated for the knife might as well see what he as to say about the sheath but I am sure that I will be to blame.

happy hunting I am without a quaility knife but the fishfish knife I would NOT NOW USE FOR THE INTENDED USE AS YOU WOULD POSSIBLY get poisioned if you use it so it will only be for playing splits '

you have to think of your buisness, word of mouth, tell him you will exchange his knife this time, but if it happens again then you wont, send him a note on to look after his knife, you wouldnt want him to slag you off and put people off buying knives from you.

Any knife with a carbon steel blade will pit if not properly oiled regularly. You wouldn't expect a car dealer to refund you if you crashed your car because you didn't change the tires when they wore out, would you?

Knife not looked after or not it shouldn't be in that state if its decent quality, I,ve got a box of old knives in the garage some haven't seen the light of day in ten years and they look better than that.

the blade i can understand getting rusty if not cared for but the thing thats bothering me is what happened to the varnish on the handle? the first photo its looks like a high gloss but the second just looks like matt woodstain, that couldnt happen as a result of bad workmanship in less than year, looks like its been dipped to remove the sheen which would also explain the high level of corrosin

This goe's out to the both of you...1) using this forum to resolve this issue is only going to cause bad blood and surley cant be good for buisness.

2) what happend to the customer always being right?

3) A happy customer is a good advert for future buisness and your reputation whilst an unhappy one doe's the opposite

4) As a goodwill gesture it may have been more prudent to sort this out privately after all the guy paid good money

5) Maybe leaving a knife in a damp bag isnt the best idea for proper care

6) Me personally I would gladly buy again and again from someone who assisted me positively with any issues I may

have.

So c'mon guys sort it out between you.... a one of goodwill gesture would be a good outcome good luck! :icon_eek:
