fishfish 17
A number of months ago i made a custom nessmuk hunting knife for a forum member,it was top quality workmanship. now as every knife owner that i know knows,a blade needs looking after whether carbon steel or stainless, ofter using and before putting away its common sense to dry the blade and wipe over with a touch dry oiled rag. his chap obviously hasnt and now wants a refund! now every knife maker i know would suggest that the customer bugger off ,what do you think? knife when made: and after the abuse!:
stubby 175
I know nothing about making knives fish, but do the blades differ from shop bought ones?. I have one that I use for gutting, simple lock knife, gets covered in blood and fur, may get a quick wash under the tap once home, but not dried off, looks as good as the day I bought it, never shows rust spots, and dont get wiped over with an oily rag so are they finished differently
speedlamper 0
ask them to prove they've matained the knife and then you'll give them a full refund including return costs, how do you prove you've been maintaining something?

I will if in the next week do not get a proper reply put the knife up to auction and what ever it makes will put in hunting sites kitty I will get some good pictures also of the sheath which did not need oil but you will see what I mean about poor craftsmanship if I am just going to get slated for the knife might as well see what he as to say about the sheath but I am sure that I will be to blame. happy hunting I am without a quaility knife but the fishfish knife I would NOT NOW USE FOR THE INTENDED USE AS YOU WOULD POSSIBLY get poisioned if you use it so it will only be for playing splits ' Kipo

Tallyho 181
you have to think of your buisness, word of mouth, tell him you will exchange his knife this time, but if it happens again then you wont, send him a note on to look after his knife, you wouldnt want him to slag you off and put people off buying knives from you. Malt 379
Any knife with a carbon steel blade will pit if not properly oiled regularly. You wouldn't expect a car dealer to refund you if you crashed your car because you didn't change the tires when they wore out, would you?
mackay 3,580
Knife not looked after or not it shouldn't be in that state if its decent quality, I,ve got a box of old knives in the garage some haven't seen the light of day in ten years and they look better than that. speedlamper 0
the blade i can understand getting rusty if not cared for but the thing thats bothering me is what happened to the varnish on the handle? the first photo its looks like a high gloss but the second just looks like matt woodstain, that couldnt happen as a result of bad workmanship in less than year, looks like its been dipped to remove the sheen which would also explain the high level of corrosin
ratkilla 42
If you let him know that if he left the blade with no after care this would be the out come, then it's his problem. Just let him know the second knife is on offer. lol

So c'mon guys sort it out between you.... a one of goodwill gesture would be a good outcome good luck!
