i think Mackem got it spot on. if your earning more you'll soon have more going out. i'd definately be tempted moving for that money RH, easy work too. with regards 1k a week, i've never heard of that much before for a spark. what area is it in??

Work hard during the week and keep the weekends for yourself and your family & friends  I think if you get the oppertunity to increase your wages and you're not leaving anyone in the lurch (especially if they've been good to you in the past) by going for the job then go for it if you're happy that it'll be a stable job  Money is not the be all and end all of everything for sure. But, it's nice to be earning a bit more when you can so you can save some for when times won't be so good. Personally I think it's smart to set some money aside if you have the oppertunity. We never know when life will deal us a Joker card.

I don't agree with the more you earn the more you spend. Spending is a choice we make, it's not like someone is putting a gun to our heads and making us spend the money. If you're happy how you're doing on your current wage then put the excess away  Obviously you'll want to treat yourself or others from time to time and there's nothing at all wrong with that as long as you don't go overboard on it  Often times the little things mean a lot more than big spending.

Have you thought about going self employed? Its difficult to start, but if you could find a local niche, it could really pay off money and time wise. With the property market looking bleak, a one man band who can price small jos competitively against the bigger set ups with their overheads and so on, could do well. With all the electrical regs. and certs. these days, there' s got to be plenty of work out there for an electrician.

You have to remember money isn't everything, I left a very well paying job to work for my self and am now going to college to get a gamekeeping qualification.

Who are the happy ones? People struggling to continuously out do the Jones's and brag about cars/cash/toys or those enjoying life with family doing something they enjoy, whether they have alot of cash or not?

Rabbithunter, the more you earn the more you spend, you live up to your means,or most people do anyway, the more expendable income you find yourself with, the more new toys you suddenly find you want/need

Not if your a tight fecker like me!!!

Been in the building Trade for 24 years...self employed for 19 of em...best thing i ever done!...nothing worse than grafting to line some other feckers pocket!

Most that say "theres more to life than money blah blah" are usually in my experiance lazy sods who just want an easy route through life...usally these people up to their necks in credit card and loan debt...f**k that!...learned early on in life that the only way forward for people like myself is hard graft...earn as much as ya can while your still fit and healthy...thats the name of the game!

Living within your means is all about prioritising. You have to draw up a list of everything you spend money on and be totally honest about how much you spend and on what. Then you have to take a long hard look at where your going wrong and take steps to cut back or cut out certain types of spending. I always make sure I have money in my account for direct debits to pay the basics, phone, leccy etc and then next after that comes the dogs, as long as they are well fed and watered each day I am happy. Whatevers left over goes on me. Its much harder to budget when your a couple or you have kids etc, you have to prioritise differently with the kids coming first, then the dogs and yourself last. I would say do whatever makes you happy in life, if you can find a job that you enjoy and you can live on the money thats better than doing a job you hate and coming home stressed or pissed off every day, even if you do have more money at the end of it

Wrong mate :whistling: I am glad you say"Usually" because I have never had a credit card in my life, never had any debt whatsoever except mortgages, and If I had to pay off the mortgage on this place tommorrow I could do so easily, and still have some pocket-change :whistling: There is more to life than money, quality time with your family is priceless,I used to head off for up to six month-1 year at a time,I can never buy that family time back mate
