60's and 70's style potatoes, meat and veg with traditional pudding, chips once a week, is needed.  The fast food dirt that kids are fed in school, but more importantly, AT HOME, is what needs to change.  It all starts at home.  It is said it is cheaper to eat cheap crap.  Wrong!  Simple, economical cooking is what UK families need to get back to.

I  agree home cooking is the best and it's nutrition as the main thing school meals in the late 1980s and the main years in the 1990s the school meals was junk food even chips was on the menu Monday to Friday burgers plenty of them hardly any drinks served and crap pizzas and jam Roly poly you could sling that up the wall and it would stick even on the ceiling in the school canteen which a lot ended up there

I don’t know what anyone else thinks, but the food culture of the British isles (England, Ireland N & S, Scotland and Wales) is f***ing howling….we exist on absolute muck and the quality is disgusting !

Little wonder then that filters down to school meals.
And there’s not much of an excuse for it really because we have some of the best produce in the world….seafood that we don’t eat, herbs and vegetables that we don’t cook with, edible game that we don’t bother with, god knows how many small producers rearing good quality meat and poultry……

But the system don’t want you spending money on that, it wants to feed you subsidised garbage and take your spare money in tax and credit interest instead.

You can not just legislate this stuff, it’s cultural and systemic

Lots of people are more careful what they feed their dog than they are about their kid's nutrition.

" f**k's sake, don't feed the dog crisps/chocolate / chips, you'll poison it!"

"Go on little Jimmy get that  junk shit down yer! You'll soon be obese like me".

I'm sorry to say it, but we are among the fattest in Europe and with the worst teeth.

But it's not all bad news, our dogs are in good nick.

I remember docking in Vigo, Spain.

I went for a drink with a couple of the Spanish crew.

We drank wine and small glasses of lager ( canyas?) We ordered tapas with each round. They ordered boquerones, whitebait  and some spinach and cabbage concoction. I ordered salted peanuts and crisps.

They looked at me as though I'd farted. "Caca de perro" ( dog shit) they snarled, pointing  at what I'd ordered.😄

Every day is a school day.

Speak for yourself wilf.

I've just eaten my tea . It was a venison steak that came from a roe deer in my woodland,  rowan jelly , that came from the berries in my woodland,  wild garlic , that came from the stream in my woodland,  runner beans that my mate grew last year , and locally sourced potatoes and sprouts ,( from the Asda up the road) 😁.

Last nights tea was pheasant stir fry , made with pheasant that came from my woodland.

You're right though .lots of kids just get fed on shite.   My ferrets used to eat better quality food than half of the kids that lived in my street.👍
